Like this argument hasn't been done to death but. Japan had zero intent of surrendering. Their leaders wanted all out victory or defeat. Allies predicted losses in the millions due to civilians fighting to the death not just the armed forces of Japan. The allied death toll would have been extreme as well. Did the Japanese kill civilians prisoners of war? Yes. Repeatably. Can you justify bombing Hiroshima and Nagasaki? 200,000 deaths versus millions lost in direct conflict. The bombs were horrendous. Their use, a last desperate act to force a strong but suicidal enemy to surrender. It worked. Yes it was deplorable that civilians were targeted. But it was an essential and in the grand scheme of things lesser of two evils. And for an enemy to cry foul if a weapon used in war. Perhaps one would have felt more reluctant at the time had the enemy first declared war prior to an unexpected attack and the better treatment of prisoners of war. But that's history. It is not relevant today. As for how the world sees America. While the above criticism is accurate in many people's perceptions, when one of the most powerful nations on the world stands idle and watches others suffer they as a society fail. They have failed before and yes they choose to be the worlds police ( not alone ). Their allies may be weaker in their eyes but are allies nonetheless. The largest issue in the world is that the three most powerful military mights in the world stand apart on beliefs and ideals. Unless the heads of those nations talk and compromise nothing the realm of world security will change. And the worst case scenario is that we have 2 members of the UN with new inexperienced leaders. We have one old guard with a little man complex and one strict authoritative figure too proud to back down. People's pride and ignorance will result in tragedy. Sins of the past and wars that people should have learnt and moved on from will define stances ( even if people on this thread ). Our ancestors did not die so that we can repeat their mistakes. Those responsible for ww2 are in their grave. The world needs to grow up and move on. Or you may as well rush to war with your head shoved up your own ass
Well yeah that's how it works. People like to fight for their beliefs and ideals, this includes nations. Conflict is a part of human nature and it is what makes and breaks us. Some care more and some care less of those caught in the crossfire. I'm not against anything you said. Nor am i for anything you said. Just my 10 cents. Demoralizing a nation does have a drastic effects on its army, either negative or positive. If I'm correct the British bombed (not nuked) German civilians during WW2. This is a war crime, correct.

The victors dont chase one another over war crimes only the defeated are brought to justice[/quote] Ok history lesson time. Yes Britain bombed German cities. Now the why is simple. Blocked name was an emotional erratic man. His airforce had nearly defeated the British airforce. The bombing by the Germans of British airfields and factories had depleted the raf to the point of nearly no return. Churchill new this. And the erratic nature of said person. By targeting cities with bombing forces he made the Germans retaliate in a similar manner. They began blitzing London for example. This was actually intended. It too pressure off the raf and their suppliers. It gave the airforce a much needed break to rebuild and regroup. This single action made it possible for Britain to win the Battle of Britain. It enabled the chance for a fightback. War crime? In ww2 such crimes were committed and planned by all sides. It was madness. Some actions had far reaching consequences than first apparent. It's easy in a time of relative peace in normal life to criticise these actions. But when the whole world is truly at war. When millions of lives hang on the balance of bold decisions. There was no choice but to take the actions that led to victory regardless of the cost and need. Without such actions millions more would have died. Take the moral high ground all you like. But. I matter which nation you are from. You probably wouldn't be alive today to complain if it were not for the actions of those who came before us during those wars. And the world would certainly be a far worse world had the outcome of being reversed. The path to peace is paved in blood. If you aren't willing to fight for peace. Don't expect much less criticise those who fight for your freedom and peace. There are and always will be those willing to take it from you.
I love how most of you that comment bring up things about the military and actions in the past have never picked up a rifle in your lives or served your country, and still give your opinion. Quite hilarious.
What's hilarious is the fact that you think only those that have served in the military or have at one time in their lives picked up a rifle, are the only ones that are allowed to have an opinion. My understanding of an opinion is that anyone and everyone is free to have their own.
How do you know? I find quite hilarious the fact that you think we never picked up a rifle in our life. Actually all of us are active members of Navy Seals. Except Optimal_Chaos. He's S.A.S. Quite hilarious.
You will actually find many players are ex services. Myself. Not sas at all but 7 years of service with British army. So as to the never held a rifle comment. Yup it's stupidly ignorant.
I somewhat justify the 2 atomic bombs on Japan with the attack on pearl harbor. They put us in Osw( Joke) so we ended it when Germany was finished!
Why don't you try adding something constructive to the discussion. If insulting is all you can do. Then you are exactly the type of person that is sort of the problem. You bring nothing but bigotry and hatred to the table.
You sound like a very interesting person Do you pass comments on the food you eat...being a qualified chef What about when watching sport?...do you comment and judge professional athletes when your more than likely not one yourself Give yourself an uppercut there champ
Neither bomb was dropped on a civilian target to demoralize. Both had been dropped in areas believed to be supporting the war effort. Additionally the bombs were not the reason for the Japanese surrender. That is just a common misconception.
To all the idiots who state or think North Korea is actually capable of waging war against the USA ....lol seriously shut up and get a clue. (Idiots who watch Red Dawn and actually think it's plausible ) TRUMP/PENCE 2020 iPhone
It's not the fact of whether they can wage war. What they stated they would do rather alarmingly. Is if American troops occupy their nation they would. Ike their own nation to ensure they wiped out the invaders rather than lose to the USA. Nothing like having a stable leader in charge.
What that they would nuke their own country to keep from being invaded? ...dude if Russia and or China actually decided to invade USA (not North Korea lol) and the leadership of this country knew we would get overrun by Chinese/Russians just like North Korea would be overrun by the USA if we invaded them ..yo you really don't think our leaders would do the EXACT SAME THING?? Yeah KimJung Un is a psychotic idiot well hell so is ours At least the North Koreans didn't ELECT their psycho iPhone
lol and someone mentioned earlier that the USA doesn't torture and murder it's own people ...why the hell we have the largest prison system in the world? Larger then Russia & China combined?? Not positive but pretty sure we execute more then anyone else does hell Texas alone executes more then most other countries. The USA is the only country in the world that privatizes its prison system so that private companies can profit by housing convicted inmates ...no torture or murder here huh??
