I enjoy this type of thread. I was not around during the civil rights movement and debates against interracial marriage. So I never saw all the naked fear and hatred towards a group of people, or heard all these fake arguments the first time around. I think people in the future will react to these current arguments with the same disbelief and revulsion that we feel when we listen to the arguments made against interracial marriage in the past. It's all the same, but this time, I get to see it firsthand. Proud to see this happen during my lifetime at a time when I can appreciate it. Just sorry for those who have to fight so future generations will have a modicum of acceptance.

I'm not sure same gender marriage is harmless. Studies on the long-term effect this could have on child rearing are few and far between. In fact, I'm not aware of any studies that are statistically significant. Certainly, there is no shortage of same gender marriage supporters arguing that it's safe and harmless, but I'm not seeing any proof of that. Thinking on it more, the same thing happens with almost every national policy. We authorize wars before knowing all the facts. We authorize the use of GMOs before knowing all the facts. We also outlaw things that are harmful, like marijuana, but allow things that are deadly, like alcohol and cigarettes. Under this light, we probably should allow same gender marriage. I suppose we will have to go the way of Nancy Pelosi and say "we have to pass it to know what's in it."
Granting the same protections and rights to a same sex couple shouldn't be an issue. They should be allowed to marry and have the ability to adopt, spousal protections and benefits. Love between consenting non family adults isn't something that's should be discriminated against by saying only hetro relationships are " worthy" of recognition. I'm not saying that churches should be forced to marry couples against the belief system they represent, that said pretty sure someone said God is love so maybe just let that deity worry and you just accept that they love each other in a way you don't maybe understand.
lol this is so stupid. The only arguments against gay marriage you can make are religion and personal opinion. And people ignore plenty of the new testaments rules, so why make an exception for gay marriage? I'm gay, and hope I'll be able to marry in any state when I'm of age
@Imitation_Cheese I can actually give a positive report on that. My best friend has been raised by his godmother and her wife for probably half of his life, and he's a very nice person. Gonna end up in college, try to be a vet, generous to a fault. If he lived with his actual parent, (who I know and despise, and he's said he does as well) he'd have and be none of these things, and likely end up in a trailer park. No negative effects from being raised by these two women, only positive.

I'm happy to hear it worked out for your friend, but inspiring as your story is, it's anecdotal, which makes it scientifically insignificant. I could say, for example, that I got shot and survived. That doesn't prove that getting shot won't kill you.
True, but you then couldnt say that 100% of gunshot wounds kill. My friends story proves that not 100% of same gender couples are inept at raising children.
