Morals: Why do we have them?

  1. How am I defending him? I want his points revealed and open for debate. Not closed away from our prying eyes

  2. If people got lost on whose morals are whose due to nested quotes, does the devil win?

  3. The devil always wins, he exists in everyone one. Look up "call of the void"...

  4. I don't understand why you have to be religious to be good. Can't I be good because I want to be good? Think of the Confucius philosophical thinkers in China, they aren't evil lol.
Even the Christian God didn't give us morals. The snake in the garden of Eden tempted Eve to consume fruit from the tree of knowledge. (God didn't grant us morals) Now let's step away from that because I hate having to beat you with your own dirty tricks. (Lies)

  5. Personally, I think you were confused from the start.
I have no gripe with chibby.

  6. Absolute moral laws cannot exist without an absolute moral lawgiver. Aka God. If God does not exists then morals are relative or subjective and depend entirely on the society or individual that decides them.

  7. Did chibby just used my name in vain!!!

  8. As some said morals are often what keep alive and keep everything "happy" and without conflict. If everything was a he did this I'm gonna do 3x that back what starts as a stolen pig can turns into war. Clearly we don't have a world with no conflict but we do have a world that doesn't go nuts after the little things.

  9. Without Christianity we go to Hell, same with most other religions, but with Hell replaced by some other underworld.

You can be good because you want to be good, that doesn't mean that your idea of good is a good one.

  10. No, God's floating flame sword hadn't burned you down in that point of the timeline.

  11. Care to look at the medieval age for a second or two? You get hanged for stealing a pig.

  12. Chibby, your post count... What's 999 upside down?

  13. Are you saying there needs to be a god or that the ideas of such beings should go out the window in terms of morals?

  14. I'm not nitpicking! I am debating certain obscene ideas

  15. Good is defined by perspective. A murderer can justify his actions by saying he thought they were "good". Everyone's definition of good varies slightly, but the most popular one is the one listed in a dictionary.

  16. I think he left it vague for believers and non believers.

    Gave a pretty clear insight.

You develop some morals from your environment as you grow up and finalize them as you hit real life.

  17. Exactly my point. I can kill a cop because he has a gun, that gun could've shot me. Thus it is good I am not dead or may have been. The cop may see otherwise but my view is that it is good.

  18. And this is why different ways of thinking exist, to accommodate for all sorts of different people with different perspectives :) congratulations, you've solved the mystery of religion and philosophy.

  19. No one can solve religion. It is a black hole of believing in things that you cannot see

As for philosophy I am fairly sure that is only a small niche of it ;)

  20. Hey I have a kaw moral dilemma..

You were asked by a friend to rescue an eb..
