2009 Year Overview: The Developers at A Thinking Ape (ATA) created a new game to add to their portfolio: Kingdoms at War (KAW). Players formed clans in Forums. Accounts were grown by hitting other accounts. The original term was "open secret farm" but later became known as "open spy farm." The premise was that you were allowed to hit any of the OSF members up to 5 times a day. Anything beyond 5 times in 24 hours was considered "farming." The same understood rule has stayed part of KAW terminology to this day. Oct 15 - Referral Codes were implemented. 26 - ProPacks were released. Nov * - The Developers made Corinthian the first official Moderator to help enforce the Terms of Use (TOU). 2 - The first clan wars was held between Foxes and iG. The Developers judged the multiple day wars in Forums. Tradition states that Foxes won the first two days with iG winning the final day, but their rivalry continued for years. When the Devs created actual clans, both Foxes and iG were made first and received an additional 20 member slots for a total of 120. 6 - New Buildings and Items were added. 25 - The Devs post a series of Rules for Forum and World Chat behavior. 28 - The player Assassin created the assassins guild which farmed anyone's enemies for a fee. Dec 4 - Game completion items were announced. 10 - Health Crystals were released. 31 - The Devs limit the amount of Nobility Points that could be purchased daily. * Exact day is unknown at this time.
2010 Year Overview: The Foxes vs iG war raged on for many months. Clans were created. Tiers 3 and 4 were released, and Plunder Wars (Pwars) were initiated. Jan 6 - The PC version of KAW launches. 25 - The player Xioxas posted in Forums the announcement of his new clan, and Knights of the Fire Emblem (KOTFE) was born. Feb 3 - Actual clans were created. * - Tier 3 buildings were released. Mar Apr 20 - Devs added an additional level to Spy buildings. 22 - Spy Potion Items were added. May 15th - Name changes were made available to PC users. Jun 4 - The player Majesty was the first player to hold #1 on all of the Leaderboards. 21 - The war Forfeit button was introduced. Jul 19 - The Block feature was first released on PC, and later device, allowing a player to prevent another player from posting on their wall. Aug 22 - Price reduction for ownerless players was implemented. The hire cost dropped every three days. Sep 4 - The first anniversary of KAW was celebrated with the 1st All-Star Wars. (The TYR Clan began not long after this event.) 28 - The Devs added to their World Chat rules. Oct 16 - Changes were made to the amount of plunder earned from allies. 23 - Tier 4 buildings were released. 26 - The Devs announce bans on any accounts using bots and other automated programs to play KAW. 2011 Year Overview: New game features were added for expanded gameplay, primarily Epic Battles and repeat action buttons for those EBs. Jan 14 - The Referral Code program ended. 24 - The Devs added to their game behavior rules. Feb 1 - World Leader Achievement released for players who achieved a ranking of top 100 or higher on the overall leaderboard. Mar Apr May 14 - PayPal was implemented as the payment form for PC. Jun 9 - Epic Battles were first released. Jul Aug * - Moose became a moderator. Sep 4 - The second anniversary of KAW was celebrated with the 2nd All-Star Wars. There was some drama surrounding the war with some moling. 19 - The health crystal limit in EBs and system wars was increased from 3 to 6. 21 - A new update was released: Spells were introduced. War payout was switched to Mithril instead of gold, bringing Pwars to a halt. Clan Prestige ranks were created. Repeat Action button for EBs was added. Blocked player list was added. 22 - Castle Level 2, the Mage, and Mithril were released. Oct 26 - War lengths were changed: Skirmish (12 Hours), Battle (24 Hours), and War (48 Hours). 2012 Year Overview: New EBs and Equipments were released. The Reset Bonus was discontinued. Tier 5 Buildings were introduced. Estoc Trials were initiated along with Mithril Equipment. Feb Mar 4 - The number of ally slots was increased. 6 - The EB series Hawthorn the Wretched was released along with new Equipment drops from other EBs. Apr May 31 - Reset bonuses were discontinued. Jun 27 - The EB series Moutos the Malevolent was released. Jul 23 - The final EB in the Moutos the Malevolent series was released. Aug 4 - Tier 5, levels 1-2, were released. 15 - Achievement Bonuses were released. 22 - Estoc's Edge was released as a clan bonus spell for clans that won wars. 27 - Tier 5, level 3, was released. Sep 4 - Third Anniversary of KAW. 18 - The 3rd All-Star Wars was held. The winner was Harbingers of Doom. Oct 8 - Bronze Bars were made available for purchase in the Marketplace. 26 - Additional Attack and Defense Items were added to the Marketplace. Nov 28 - Estoc Trials were first held. 30 - The Red Paladin Equipment was revealed. Dec 3 - The KAW Splash Screen was updated. 7 - The first two Red Paladin Equipment items were released.
2013 Year Overview: ATA ID's were implemented, and the Forum Mod position was created. New EBs and EB Clan Achievements were added. The Guild Hansel build was nerfed. Jan 22 - A KAW Update was released with the following new features: ATA ID's for account login and security, Spinner for selectable amounts to convert from nobility and gold as well as purchase of Mithril, New app icon, Background image for iPad. Feb 5 - The Forum Moderator position was created with Moose, Drgnblade, and Delphin chosen as the first Forum Moderators. Their color was orange as opposed to the usual green. The regular Game Moderators at the time were: Logical, Meisha, Wabbsy, Babycakes, CanadianGal, Eagle, Petal, and Melissa. 25 - The "Veil of Evasion" spell, for opting out of Estoc Trial wars, was replaced by "Wave of Conflict" spell, for opting in to Estoc Trial wars. It was up to Clan Owners to monitor how many opted in players there were. The wrong amount would disqualify the clan from matchup. Mar 12 - The first EB of a new series, Skorpios the Deathstalker, was released. 20 - The second EB of the new series, Skorpios the Deathstalker, was released. 27 - The third EB of the new series, Skorpios the Deathstalker, was released. Apr 4 - EB Achievements were added for the three series after the Apheriun of Exile series. The final EB of each of the series was all that was needed to unlock all of the bonuses. 15 - The final EB of the new series, Skorpios the Deathstalker, was released. May 31 - The Order of the Valiant Knight Achievement was introduced. Jun Jul Aug 4 - Tier 5, levels 1-2, were released. 27 - Tier 5, level 3, was released. 2014 Year Overview: Forum Layout was given an update. ATA added a new game and retired two others. New Mods and VKs were added along with the New Player spell/color. New Building Levels were implemented. Jan 23 - A Forum layout update was released with new sections that exist now to this date. Feb 1 - The community raised money for the Immunity Project. ATA was originally funded by Y Combinator, the same investor that backed The Immunity Project. 20 - The Summoner EB was released in the Scrag the Bloodless series. 21 - The Scroll Drop rate for The Summoner was increased. Mar 7 - ATA introduced the game, S.M.A.S.H. 31 - Mochi Games, a platform for logging in to KAW, ended. Apr May 1 - After a hiatus, VKs were brought back with 2 new additions: PandaGeorge and Mango. 7 - The Devs began a Beginners at War program. 8 - Level 4 and 5 upgrades for Hoarfrost buildings were released. 28 - Four new Mods (slayerbob, PandaGeorge, Wulf, Resilience) were added. Jan 8 - Apple implemented price changes for various countries (EU, CA, NO, IS, RU) 11 - The Devs held a Facebook Event to promote the New User Bonus. The community received rewards for reaching over 1,000 shares. 21 - The Abyss lands were released. 29 - Event - The Stone Emperors: Twin Paths to Glory Feb 6 - A new Chat filter was added to prevent prohibited words from being used. 26 - Tier 7 Level 3 buildings were released.
