What is your opinion on Tuesdays election results?

  1. Does DILLIGAF count as an opinion?

  2. The democrats and Obama got what they deserve. I hope that the republicans make his life miserable.

  3. This view is whats wrong with America. We need to get away from wishing hardship on those that try and help America. Hopefully our two parties will work together for the better of the country, not for selfish reasons or personal goals.

  4. I know moose is a conservative body mind and soul. So yes he is excited.

    My opinion is this......

Everyone knew that Obamacare was going to be a party killer. Let's remember how he got elected in the first place. It was only 3% of the independents that wanted to ride the coattails of history. Then it was the same that wanted to give him the benefit of doubt for his second term. This when the policy of Obamacare starts to leak out. Pelosi said we don't need to read it we just need to pass it and read it later. Later is now. Everyone that paid for their insurance started getting cancelation notices. Corporations started dropping their insurances. The old policies didn't meet the Obamacare guidelines no matter how glorious your plan was. People saw the Obamacare rates triple the cancelled polices rates. $8k per family of 4? That is nutz. The elderly which most are on a fixed budget saw their rates triple also and their doctors drop them because "If you like your doctor you can keep em" was a lie. The subsidies were put in place to dull the outcry of affordability problem. I just laugh when the plan was to get the non working millenniums to pay for Obamacare.

Corporations are leaving the country. The dems like to tax the hell out of them. Look with the employment rate in the toilet the money has to come from somewhere to pay for the non working class and subsidies. Other countries give better tax incentives to lure the corps in...ie Burger King moves to Canada. America is not the #1 economy anymore, china is. Now doesn't that piss you off ? Some backwards social communistic dictatorship that has the real war on women is the number one economy? Thanks Obama you have set America back 30years.

People are suffering including me. I have four kids. I'm struggling to just put food on the table since the price of everything went sky high. I put my last $5 in gas yesterday. Oil prices are going down but only because the private sector (which creates jobs) refuses to stop their oil production. Lol, now the sheiks that we buy oil from are lowering their prices to stay competitive. Didn't the republicans say that this would happen? Yes.

Everyone in America is tired of the rushed policies through congress and or the behind the back executive orders that aren't really helping USA move forward. A lot of hidden stuff in those policies, like the govt can storm your house and take supplies if needed. Where is that policy leading up to?

Fact is the republicans create jobs, just look at domestic oil boom. People are up rooting their families and leaving their states to walk on to a $100k starting job. Wow. You can't bring in the fact that during Obama the unemployment claims rate has lowered, it's a lie. Unemployment subsidies for people not working has run out. Meaning no money for you so you can't claim which unemployment rate is at 15% .

So yes the sweep is a plus and a move in the right direction. Dems knew this would happen that's why they moved as far away from Obama during their campaigns. Piss off the independents and this what happens. The republicans saw it happen to them and the dems were blind to it this time.

  5. Just tossing thus out there.

Americans are ruggedly independent. It is etched into the soul of this country. How often do we hear "personal freedoms" touted.

This leads to an electorate that votes for what is best for me.... The truth is a country will not last long with this mentality. Because what is best for me is not best for my community or country, all the time.

I don't know many people that say hey let's pay more taxes. This is a sad fact, we want the social welfare programs that other countries have like Canada/Norway/EU, but we do not want to pay the same tax rates to fund the services.

I will be stunned when I hear a politician or people start saying something like this:

"I know this is not in my best interest but it is in the best interest of the country, that is why I voted/put forth _______"

Kaw clans are a micro version of this: how many clans have lost a member because that member wanted to do what is best for them and not the clan?

Putting others first is never going to be a popular message that wins elections in the USA until a fundamental cultural change happens.

  6. First, under ObamaCare you can keep your health insurance until 2015, even if it doesn’t comply with the ACA. Come 2015, if your plan doesn’t have a grandfathered status and doesn’t meet the requirements of the ACA, then you will have to choose a new plan. HHS announced that health insurance plans that were supposed to be canceled by 2014 may be sold through October of 2016 in states that approve of the extension. This extends some non-compliant non-grandfathered plans until 2017. So I'm not sure how your Mom's company was "forced" to drop her insurance.

Second, the ACA states that the IRS cannot file a lien on a property because an uninsured person fails to pay a penalty. Nor can it seize bank accounts or garnish paychecks to recover Obamacare fines. Nor will Americans who refuse to pay for mandatory health insurance be subject to criminal prosecution of any kind.

I'm willing to bet if we start digging into your story, there's more going on than you're telling us.

  7. i honestly dont care which party holds the power.

Both are as bad as the other.

On the one hand you have the republicans. I live in wisconsin. Scott walker is nothing less than a dictator. He has destroyed the school system, approved of the destruction of families land, and is somehow still in office.

Then you have the democrats. I honestly dont have as much hate for the democrats as i do republicans because i have never been directly affected by a democrat yet.

However i do see many flaws with the Obama administration.

The fact of the matter is.... our political system is beyond flawed.

2 opposing political parties cannot work together for the betterment of a country.

  8. I've seen lots of back and forth on this thread, but I want to highlight this post, as its the most articulate one ove come across to date. Very well stated, and props to you!

  9. Not meaning any disrespect, but highlighting a post that is directed at the fact you are an obvious conservative seems rather biased.

    Whether or not its true.

  10. And to clarify, before i get accused of being a liberal hypocrite, i dont like either party. I just like the repunlicans a helluva lot less.

  11. There are so many inaccuracies in your post I'm not sure where to start.

Let's look at how he got elected. More people voted for him and he won. Twice. It's that simple.

"Everyone that paid for their insurance started getting cancelation notices."

    Everyone? You're exaggerating.

"How many individual market cancellations were there? The most commonly used figure is 4.7 million, based on reporting by the Associated Press last December. But there’s reason to doubt the accuracy of that figure. An analysis of a more recent poll by researchers at the Urban Institute puts the figure at somewhere around 2.6 million."
    http://www.factcheck.org/2014/04/millio ... insurance/

Then there's the fact that most of the people who got cancellations got an alternative plan. So no "everyone" didn't have their plans cancelled.

"$8k per family of 4? That is nutz"

Actually, that's low. Here's what it cost in 2009, before the ACA.

9/16/2009 - Average family health insurance policy: $13,375, up 5%
    http://usatoday30.usatoday.com/money/in ... osts_N.htm

This is what amuses me about conservatives. You act like everything was wonderful before the ACA. Like no one ever had a planned cancelled, never had their network changed and couldn't see their doctor, or never had the cost of their plans go up. People weren't getting dropped because they got sick or being denied coverage because of pre-existing conditions. We lived in a health care utopia. Right.

"The elderly which most are on a fixed budget saw their rates triple also and their doctors drop them because "If you like your doctor you can keep em" was a lie"

The elderly are on MediCare, not Obamacare, and MediCare rates didn't triple. And here's the thing. It's not the ACA that says you can't keep your doctor. It's the insurance companies and providers who are making those decisions. Just like they did before ObamaCare.

"Corporations are leaving the country. The dems like to tax the hell out of them."

Corporations have leaving the country for decades and our effective corporate tax rates are actually low.

GAO: Big Companies Paid A 12.6% Effective Federal Income Tax Rate
    http://www.forbes.com/sites/janetnovack ... -tax-rate/

There's a difference in what the statutory tax rate is and what the effective tax rate is. The statutory tax rate is high. That's how GE (who paid no taxes) can smile and say "Our corporate tax rates are the highest in the world" and yet actually pay no taxes. Interesting fact. The share of revenue coming from the corporate income tax dropped from about one-third in the early 1950s to less than a tenth in 2010. Guess who made up the difference? Payroll taxes provided two-fifths of revenue in 2010, four times its one-tenth share in the early 1950s.

American corporations pay effectively lower taxes than they do in most industrialized nations. That's a fact. And that's still not enough. They do everything they can to keep assets offshore and take advantage of loopholes. . Hell, we could lower their effective rate to 5% and they'd STILL look for loopholes overseas. That's how capitalism works. It's driven by profit.

So by all means, please explain how Obama and Democrats have set America back 30 years.

I'll finish up with the rest of your post in a bit.

  12. Of course I am a conservative, and of course I'm bias! Everyone, weather left or right, views the news and goings on around them through a bias lense.

Why do lefties love Obama care? Becsuse fhrough their left wing glasses, it looks like its all jellybeans and unicorns.

Why does the right hate Obama care? Because through their right wing glasses, it looks like a socialist disaster.

I will view the fallout of Obama care very differently than black-dragon, because we both have different biases.

People who think that they are "objective observers" are generally the worst kind of people because they are unaware of their own bias, and because of that, they are I possible to talk to.

Now..... On to a slightly related topic, can people change their bias? Sure. But, generally, bias doesn't change from reading some forum post by a person with an opposing view point. Bias changes when the person who holds a particular view gets negatively impacted.

So, yea, am bias? Yes, and so are you, if you're being honest. We aren't unthinking unfeeling machines. We are people with different world views who interpret things through the lense of our own experiences.

  13. Just to drive home the point of everyone being bias in political discussions...........

Physics isn't bias. If I have a cannon, a 10 kilo cannon ball, and one kilo of gun powder, I should be able to predict velocity and distance of the cannon ball of its shot from the cannon. The answer is solid. Its definite.

Politics isn't about that. Politics is about ideals and ideas, and more cynically, power and corruption. Its far from scientific. Its mostly opinion based.

If I don't like your opinion, shouting, insulting, and dropping facts that are suspect won't change me, or anyone. It never will, because its a discussion between two bias people.

I have never ever heard of one person say, I was a conservative (or liberal) but I changed by mind because I read a brilliant post on a kids game in forum. Our minds are hard wired to be one way or the other, and that's pretty much it.

  14. I would agree, but from a debate stand point the moderator (no pun intended) is supposed to at least pretend to be unbiased.

    I admit to being biased.

However, when it comes to politics, i tend to not be. Granted there are certain things i will immediately jump on.

I seriously hate america's political system. It doesnt work. It cant work. The fact that america has survived 200 years on this system is amazing enough.

However we are seeing at fall apart right in front of us.

As for who is to blame for the mess we are currently in, Obama aint the one to blame. He just inherited it.

And now i will end this incoherent rambling before i go even further into a "wtf am i talking about again?" situation

  15. While bias I try to be fair. I think both is possible. Ill use black dragon as an example. While I disagree with the interpretation of the facts he presents, and am suspicious of some the the source data or provides, he's clearly as good poster who doesn't resort to ad hominum attacks, which is nice. His views are well thought out. I simply disagree, but I will commend his good posting

  16. I can see a stand off of practically nothing happening, unless one party tries to pass/repeal a law/policy/whatever that has some sort of favor from the opposite party. This is from the power of veto, and 2/3 needed vote from Congress.

  17. @Fiery-Ash: Mooses's duty as forum moderator is to enforce ToU not to "moderate" debates. He's entitle to his opinions and biases.

@Moose: you are conservative and I can understand that socialism is not a dream land for you. What I don't understand about conservatives is why they freaks out when they hear word "socialism". Can you please explain?

  18. This guy gets it. More of you believe how the media reports over what is actually happening. Preaching twists and opinions as "facts".

  19. Vlad, i was making mention to the fact that he started the debate.

The person who oversees a debate is called a moderator.

I didnt mean as a moderator of kaw. Which is why i put no pun intended.

And i agree. Everyone is entitled to their opinion.
