  1. Get a new brick? I doubt it's the input on the Xbox.

  2. A lot to reply to and I'm a forum scrub so copy pasting a ton of quotes here will be impossible.
Drgn- I think you said store will honor warranty? Its a week old, and I bought it new from Walmart. But I don't want to trade the console in for a new one and lose my save data. The downloads and installs took several days.
The roman noob- There is no switch, and I've looked over every inch of my Xbox and PSU with no visible damage. There's likely an internal issue that I can't repair without sending it in and waiting weeks for a new one to return. Which I will absolutely do.
Seth- I'll be purchasing a new one from either target or GameStop today as a secondary. If it fails, its a console issue and I'll be returning it for an exchange.

Honestly I don't think its an issue with the input either. I bought it on the 4th, there's no way its broken down yet. Likely just the fan is nonfunctional and that's shut down the whole brick.
    Damn Microsoft and their safety.

  3. I'll let the thread carry on, the PC talk is interesting to me. I've always wondered if it was possible to build a PC that ran the Xbox OS.

  4. Yeah... it's called Windows 7.

  5. Kick it... But make sure you have shoes on.

  6. This is why you get a ps4... Friend of mine had his disc drive go after a year of having it. It was not under warranty at the time yet PlayStation took back the ps4 put in a new disc drive and returned it next day air both ways free with no questions asked.

  7. MSI KRAIT looks great but i really want the ASUS sabertooth z97 mark s, dat sexy arctic camo.
I always use corsair DIMMs or G skill, but i have a pair of the white corsair lp vengeance somewhere around the place. I've never used a be quiet! heatsink or fan before, but you could probably get 5.0 GHz on that chip with something like a CM Hyper 212 EVO? with push and pull fan set up. Idk what graphics card i'm gonna get, i really want a GTX 970 then add on a waterblock then liquid cool it with the CPU. The 3.5GB + 0.5GB Vram thing bugs me a bit. I don't have $700 to SLI 2 GTX 970's... YET. Personally i recommend the LED strips, cause some nights you don't want all that brightness from you tower so you can turn them off without turning off the fans. Corsair AF140/120's never fails me when it comes to keeping my case cool. They have really good CFM and i've ever had a dead one.

Yup. I recommend sticking to Windows 7. Plus theres no way (no easy way) to run XB1 software on a PC.

  8. Eh, my case has a button to turn off the LED fans and my motherboard has a program that came with it to change the colors/turn off (also can sync with music) and no a 212 EVO couldn't compete with the likes of be quiet! I hit the wall at 4.8 Ghz and pushing it past that isn't a good idea. As for the GTX 970 I really recommend the card personally as I've used it and the 3.5 VRAM "issue" isn't a problem at all. I donmt recommend watercooling it though as it adds a huge amount to the price you're paying. Just overclock (slightly) and air cool 2 MSI 970s (the Krait edition ones ofc). Unless you have very limited space in your case I don't recommend water cooling at all. I've had leaks in the past and gave up on it entirely and have seen no performance hits since moving to air.

  9. the fan leds can be controlled separately?
over 4 GHz is still great either way. With 4 cores and 8 threads thats great. i read up how cool and efficient skylake runs, i honestly thought haswell was as great as it gets.
the whole 3.5 thing isn't really a issue, just a few nvidia fanboys got outta shape hearing it has a 3.5GB + 0.5GB Vram(s) compared to AMD's fury which has 4GB Vram (single pool). I know the GTX 970 is a great chip otherwise. I really want to overclock it and water cooling isn't a issue since its kinda easy for me (I only use compression fittings). The water blocks aren't that expensive. NZXT phantom (240) has lots of space and fan mounts, i can maintain positive air pressure and keep the radiator cool. The pump and reservoir can be mounted into the 5 inch bays since i dont use them or i can just remove the 3.5 inch bays and mount them there since the only drives i use are a 280gb SSD and a single 2.5 inch hybrid drive from seagate (its like a HDD with a large data buffer to increase loading speeds). i use the seagate for all my games and that's about it.
Whats your take on TLC SSD's? :ugeek:

  10. I had a very similar defect issue when the very first original Xbox came out. I took it back to Best Buy and traded it for a PlayStation. I'll never buy an Xbox.

    Solution.... Don't buy Xbox.

  11. I don't really see a point in the gimmicky SSDs like the SATA Express ones and M.2 and whatnot. I was the person back in the day who would run velociraptors in RAID 0 configuration and just hope it wouldn't be loud as hell (it was) now I just stick to WD Black Hard Drives and USUALLY opt out for SSDs other than a small 120 or so GB one for a boot drive.

  12. 2 velociraptors  @ 10000 rpm, were they really THAT loud?
SSD's for boot drive and main programs are great but the price for SLC and MLC SSD's have dropped quite a bit in the past few years. In 2013 you would be paying around $3 per GB. Today its around $1 or less. I keep my Windows 7, Main programs and my "Important" files on a SSD. Its worth it IMO. What really gets me excited are those PCIE SSD drives, like HyperX Predator and samsungs whatever its called. they've got read speeds around 1.4GB/s with samsungs at 2.2GB/s. They're basically M.2's with a adapter that lets them connect to a 4x PCIE. IMAGINE THE POSSIBILITIES.

  13. Yeah I mentioned PCIE SSDs, they're pretty gimmicky NOW but that's because of their huhe price. Until then I'll opt out of 1 TB SSDs and stick with a WD Black

  14. Do the WD black HDDs bottleneck the system? I'm kind iffy on that..

  15. Not at all! If anything it bottlenecks my internet at times because I get an average of 180 mb/s
