Chapter 8: (Cdt Lam) In about half an hour, the raid will begin. We will use that time to choose weapons and prepare for the raid. I'll admit now, I had fallen in love with Cdt Lee. But there's no time to worry about that while the Germans are trying to step into our country. The first part of the raid progressed fairly smoothly. When we got that soldier for interrogation, that's when things started to go downhill. The German machine guns began firing and launching flares into the sky. Whenever a flare was sent up, we would flop down to avoid being spotted. It had been 45 minutes and we were barely halfway back to our trenches. When the next flare came up, I saw the others lying down except for Cdt Lee. She was just sort of crouching. After the next flare, everyone had moved forward. Except Lee. A third flare came, and this time, she stood up, as if waking from a dream. That's when it got her. Three bullets tore into her, spinning her to the ground. I ran back as soon as the flare died out. I put her arm around my shoulder and half carried half dragged her across to our trenches. She screamed in pain, as we landed heavily on the wooden planks of the trench. Sgt Lo ordered two men to go summon a stretcher. As Cdt Lee was being taken away, she, with great effort, whispered to me three words: "I stood up". I dwelled on those words until I realized she had tried to kill herself. I prayed that she had failed.
Chapter 9: (Sgt Lo) We have new soldiers in our platoon now, since we've lost so many. Tpr Jackson (M) of the navy boarding teams transferred to the army; WO1 Giovanni (M) from air force, I think; C/WO Lu (F) from a different regiment and a few other privates from a training camp. Cdt Lam was promoted to a Sergeant. Cdt Chen to Corporal and Cdts Lee, Chan and Chan(a newcomer, unrelated to the Chan we had before) to Lance Corporal. Lcpl Lee had been discharged from the casualty station three months after her attempt at suicide. She had she'll-shock and was driven to madness, but a few days talking to experienced doctors and she was well. A barrage came a few days later and it was hell on earth. The bombs landed on the barbed wire and in the trenches, sending up cascades of dirt and mud over us. We huddled low with our gas masks and hoped that shrapnel wouldn't tear our heads off. Suddenly, the barrage stopped. And as abruptly as it had stopped it started again, killing our soldiers. After what seemed like forever, it stopped and our machine guns opened fire. They only want one person for interrogation.
Chapter 10: (Sgt Lam) The enemy soldiers rushed at us, carrying different sorts of rifles, machine guns, knives and their grenades. Whenever we shot one down, around ten would take their place. There were too many. I realized that their objective was to kill as many of us and take a prisoner for interrogation. Not gonna happen, I thought to myself. Then I did the dumbest thing in my life. I went over the trenches with my favorite with a machine gun. Sgt Lo, Cpl Chen, Lcpls Lee, Chan, and the other Chan followed. We fought like we never had. Out of the corner of my eyes, I saw Lee throw multiple grenades. The last thing I saw was Sgt Lo and Cpl Chen subdued and taken by the Germans, and bullets ripping into the three Lcpls' chests. That's when a I got knocked out.
Chapter 11: (Cpl Chen) My vision slowly became focused as I opened my eyes. Pain radiated from everywhere on me, as I turn my head and realize I was tied up. Then memory flooded back. I looked to my left and saw Sgt Lam sitting against the trench wall in a puddle of blood and mud. To my right, Sgt Lo was in a worse state. She has several deep cuts on her side, and her breathing was extremely light, as if she was suffocating. Then came the harsh voices of Germans. They were going to torture us more. As usual, I was wrong. Instead, they took us to a field behing their front lines, forced Sgt Lo and I to stand still, and tied Sgt Lam to a wooden post. I realized they were going to shoot him. Just as they put the gun over Sgt Lam's left side, Sgt Lo burst out of her chains and knock out the three soldiers guarding us. Don't ask me how she did it, but after she freed Sgt Lam and I, we fled, into Germany.
Chapter 12: (Sgt Lo) Three days in Germany, and we have had several close calls. This morning, Cpl Chen coughed up blood while we were walking, and we were forced to stop. She had lost so much blood already, it was a miracle she was still alive. We had managed to avoid being captured, but we can't do it forever. We can only hope we reach France in time. Meanwhile, we focused on keeping Cpl Chen alive. I woke up the morning of the seventh day in Germany with a rifle pointed at my head. The unknown figures grabbed me and forced me up. I realized they were probably bandits. Apparently Sgt Lam and I were thinking the same thing, because we both attacked our captors at the same time. But as they retreated, they grabbed Cpl Chen, pointed a gun at her side and ordered us to stop. We stopped. They took us back towards the direction we came from, the front lines. Ok so now we know they were part of the reformed Nazi party.
Chapter 13: (Sgt Lam) I was getting worried. Sure, we somehow escaped our captors, but Sgt Lo always said she was okay. Truth was, she wasn't okay. The cuts and gashes on her side reopened constantly, bleeding a large amount of blood every time. She and Chen were both getting weak. We can't keep this up forever; we were gonna die anyways, so we decided to attack the German military HQ. Our plan worked better than expected. We flattened their base HQ. Now we had to somehow get back to our trenches.
Chapter 14: (Cdt Wong) Sgt Lam, Sgt Lo and Cpl Chen's achievement of flattening the enemy HQ was widely recognized, but they disappeared after that, everyone knowing little, that they decided to disappear from the pages of history. They had told me that, if ever they escape from captivity, they would make one last big move and lay low. The three LCpls were deemed too injured to return to battle, and were sent to their hometown. Cpl Law and I have become very good friends. We often talk when there's nothing to do. One day, we had an attack planned. It was a full fledged attack on the enemy, an attempt to push them back to Germany. The attack started out pretty smoothly, but when we took over the German front line trench, their defensive trenches started bombing us. Then they stopped and sent soldiers to retake the trench. We went over the trench and charged at the advancing Germans. I was about to pull the pin on a grenade when Cpl Law dropped. She had been hit. Rage blinded me and I threw my grenade and let loose a container of phosgene gas, after putting gas masks on Cpl Law and myself. We repelled the counter attack later in the day. I knelt beside Cpl Law, who was clutching her side and moaning. Even then, I could see that the bullet had damaged something important. I carried her to the casualty station, and she was marked as unfit for further service. She was dismissed from the army
