I am confused as to how someone could abused the edit feature. But then I'm also confused why the edit feature would mean that it's taken away from both formats. Id rathe have unlimited edit on a PC than a 5 minute edit time. Like it was before the update.
It's possible to remove, though it would have some large implications on potential abuse. I'll need to talk with the moderator team and our support to determine if it's something we can do.
what abuse? what possible abuse could merit ruining the ability of true forumers to keep the forums up to date? we have had this ability for years. what abuse???
I vote for a trail run on the unlimited edit time, if it works then no harm done, but if players start 'abusing' switch it back to PC only.
they can do that now, they just have to remove before 5minutes. pc users have (had) always been able to do that. it was never a huge issue.
Players could post something that violates the Code of Conduct and later edit it later to try and hide from moderators. It's also possible to change posts up to derail a thread.
i said that on the last page. so i'll just go all "broken record" here and say: pc users had been able to do that all along, and there were only rare issues with it.
That can be quickly resolved by screen shot, If someone is found to be doing that SS n report, let support or moderator deal with them. And that is still possible with 5minutes. Making unlimited wouldn't make any difference on that point. As who would remove after a hour - day that sort of thing is usual accomplished in under 5mins.
There was previously a system where you could view past edits to posts as a moderator. There shouldn't be a difference now. I once tried to abuse it and moose silenced me
Don't make excuses. I could bypass in wc and it not get seen by a mod, are you going to remove chat functions?
Frankly that's just ridiculous. Players could do that the previous 4-5 years and NOW this change is made? As previously stated, if the edit post behavior is seen a mod should be able to review the edits as well. All this change does is make it infuriating for anyone who actually uses forums normally, which is approx 99% of us, to make any post anywhere. Changing it back isnt even an issue. 90% of the content that bypasses ToU gets left alone or changed anyway after a player screenshots or quotes. Not an issue. Record is kept. Derailment happens irregardless of editing or not. Only way you can stop that is from extra moderation. Not once in 3 years have I seen a player edit their posts to derail a thread.
The limit should not be removed for all players, but an exception should be added to remove the limit for all Mods and Valiant Knights. Just my opinion. They are obviously expected to behave reasonably, and wouldn't abuse it.
That doesn't work either. Very tiny proportion of thread makers and posters fall into that category. All should have the power to edit. It's not a big problem allowing it, but getting rid of it was a giant leap off a cliff in the wrong direction. Either all get the ability or we can remove that feature in favor of an earlier version where only PC can update at any point if abuse is too much an issue.
I was unaware of this, but must agree this is not suitable for editing guides or various old threads that need updating.
