what to do with Adrian Peterson? opinion thread

  1. Implying the NFL or Adrian Peterson aren't putting money in the right pockets for this to work out somehow.

  2. It is inexcusable for what he did, but he took a plea and will abide by the sentencing. He should be allowed to play. I understand people "look up" to over glorified superstars, but that is a problem with society.

If I beat my kid and avoided jail time, I certainly wouldn't be fired from my job. Neither would anyone else unless you have a clause in your employment contract stating something regarding shameful acts.

Playing in the NFL is just a job. Same as me going to work everyday. What I do at home has no regard to my work.

I'm in no way justifying what he did. I also think he got better judge treatment due to who he is. I don't agree with that, but think he should be able to work his job.

  3. Funny you say that. If I beat my kid I and my wife would be fired from ours.
I agree with moose ( it happens rarely )
Public figures should represent the best of us. Especially when they are role models for our young. Children deserve protection from abuse. And I certainly would never take my child to see a child abuser touted as a superstar. If you want the glory of being a role model and the absurd paycheck that comes with it. Then you have standards to live up to. And in most people opinions beating your child until they bleed is not acceptable.
Though in some countries it is routine. As is giving them weapons and preaching hatred.
If you want to be the role model in a nation at the forefront of democracy. You don't break laws and abuse your own children and expect to keep your job.

  4. @ sweet jimmy for the funny you say that. Btw

  5. Why is a sport superstar considered a role model? I'm a sports fanatic, but I don't look up to anyone. Neither do my kids. You want a role model for your family? Find a wounded warrior to help support during his recovery. Those are the real superstars.

It would be hard to be fired from your job for abusing your family, depending on your line of work. First, it wouldn't receive any type of media coverage so the likely hood of people find out is extremely minimal. Sadly these attacks go unnoticed.

  6. As an ex serviceman I would rather my children looked more to research scientists, doctors, nurses or any field they choose to study. They won't be forced to follow a path of my choosing.
And as you are a sports fan then you will see that many many fans take their children to sporting events. These due to the media make the players into role models due to their public status. No matter what else you choose to believe, that is how it is.
If you want the high salary. Do your job without beating a child. Simple. If you cannot do that. Don't expect to keep a job that holds you in the limelight. Go pick up litter instead. ( < one job my children cannot choose btw )
As for jobs. If a dr nurse or soldier beats their child. Guess what. They are out Of a job. So why should rich NFL stars not be held to the same standard.

  7. I never heard about this but from what I just read this man should be in jail!

  8. Well guys, are we trying to empower athletes further here or what?

Adrain Peterson? Who looks up to him other than Vikings fans? And you think they look at him the same anymore anyway? Let's keep perspective. We all knew he was a little off because he is always trying to break someone's hand when he shakes it.

There are only a handful of athletes that have the status you guys want imply on all of them.
And they are few and far between.

  9. @hydra yes I know this, but people were mentioning how the man needs to start some kind of anti child punishment movement and start raising awareness or some other cap like Vick did for the dogs. Vick isn't required to run that campaign, he is doing it to save face, though. It is his choice to do so and Adrian shouldn't be forced by society to do the same thing if he doesn't want to. He is not required by law to do this so it shouldn't be some form of atonement that will get him a golden ticket back into the nfl.

  10. That's the kind of decision-making I like to see. Make this guy king.

  11. Look at all the athletes we admire. We don't admire the man we admire the ability. That doesn't make people want to be like the man. They could be total morons. It doesn't take away from the athletic ability. Or the admiration. Does that make people want to be a moron?

I don't think people get it. Especially people into politics who think they understand the people.

    Ridiculous arguments.

  12. I agree hydra. The ability and "God given" talent is what we admire.

  13. Steroids

  14. Lol so moose tells a story, asks for our opinion, gives his and then ends with insinuating that anyone who thinks differently to him is inherently wrong.

Doesn't sound like you are all that interested in other people's opinion at all.

  15.
  16. Then if your own opinion / standpoint / feelings can change, should one person be eternally damned for something they subsequently genuinely realise was a terrible mistake?

An eye for an eye sounds so simple and just, and yet....

  17. I feel he should be banned and locked up with child molesters, he hit his kid in the junk till he bled from the area. Nuff said!
