It is not your right to take another life quite simply. The feminist/liberal mind must be something indeed. Their sense of entitlement even encompasses deciding who lives and who doesn't.
Sounds about right . Everybody pulls their weight. You don't know how many people in public housing around me walk around with cell phones. I work for every last penny I get which means going without cable, cell phones, ovens, etc. Im on to happy retirement in which some day I will be able to afford these things
It's also not your right to ruin someone else's life - and forcing another person into a life of poverty.
Ah, so it's about rights. "An embryo has no rights. Rights do not pertain to a potential, only to an actual being. A child cannot acquire any rights until it is born. The living take precedence over the not-yet-living or the unborn. Abortion is a moral right—which should be left to the sole discretion of the woman involved; morally, nothing other than her wish in the matter is to be considered. Who can conceivably have the right to dictate to her what disposition she is to make of the functions of her own body? Never mind the vicious nonsense of claiming that an embryo has a “right to life.” A piece of protoplasm has no rights—and no life in the human sense of the term. One may argue about the later stages of a pregnancy, but the essential issue concerns only the first three months. To equate a potential with an actual, is vicious; to advocate the sacrifice of the latter to the former, is unspeakable. Observe that by ascribing rights to the unborn, i.e., the nonliving, the anti-abortionists obliterate the rights of the living: the right of young people to set the course of their own lives. By what right does anyone claim the power to dispose of the lives of others and to dictate their personal choices?" - Ayn Rand You "freedom and liberty" types love her, don't you?
Regarding abortion, until the person you're discussing the topic with shares the same definition of what a person is, all other discussion is useless. If you agree that human life starts at conception, then you'll view abortion as murder. If you believe human life starts at some later time, then any abortive procedure dine before then is fine. All this discussion about poverty and wrecking lives is off topic. I'd recommend that before you carry on with this topic, first define what a human life is. 1 that would be more interesting to read And 2. It gets to the root of the disagreement
That "young person" effectively became two people at conception in the eyes of many. She doesn't have say over that second life (or rather shouldn't). She had control over her life and that control led to a second. But as Moose says, it's a matter of opinion on definition.
Buckeye, if you want to define life as far back as the potential for life, we would include every woman's menstrual cycle and every male (experience) as murder of those same potential lives. However, I agree that this discussion should be the topic of an entirely different thread.
@DN Oh absolutely. If someone decides to abuse life by taking the life of another, why do they deserve to live? There are always moral exceptions. By the way Morality would be a very interesting topic for another thread, seeing as the atheist left use Christian Right morality codes in their everyday life. Yet if they stood by their own theories it would be okay to kill, ****, do whatever you want. There is no right or wrong in atheist theories. Yet they deny God and live by his morals. Why?
the condition that distinguishes organisms from inorganic objects and dead organisms, being manifested by growth through metabolism, reproduction, and the power of adaptation to environment through changes originating internally.
Agreed, but... "Have you ever noticed that most of the people against abortion are people you wouldn't want to **** in the first place?" - George Carlin Done now.
I'm afraid attempts to shame and control women by men who are unable to earn their respect, admiration, or affection, is as old as time itself.
well said dude. Now why is it that I'm the only one that found the definition of the human life which is the condition that distinguishes organisms from inorganic objects and dead organisms, being manifested by growth through metabolism, reproduction, and the power of adaptation to environment through changes originating internally. Now I say we should discuss this and go deeper into it instead of arguing about abortion for a little bit.
