Re: The Universe is NOT Infinite [Proof] There are supposedly two dominant types on matter in the universe, dark matter and anti matter, and it's estimated that 99% oft things are dark matter, and only 1% are anti matter.
Re: The Universe is NOT Infinite [Proof] The surface of a sphere is three dimensions, as it moves along the x, y, and z axis.
Re: The Universe is NOT Infinite [Proof] There's 3 types of matter actually. Regular matter, dark matter(70%) and anti matter. Regarding op. The universe can span infinitely but that does not mean that it hasn't already done so. Its moving at faster the speed of light. We can tell by viewing galaxies far away and closer to us. We see farther awaybthgery are the faster they are going meaning space us moving faster going out. Big bang gas always been debated and may well always be. There's proof it happened and "proof" it didn't. I believe it did. Everything boils down to equations that we get from observation.
Re: The Universe is NOT Infinite [Proof] I don't think the universe can expand faster than light, because it would need more than infinite energy. And in a finite world expanding faster than light, it has more force expanding it than any force acting against it, so it would never stop, which (to me, I don't support the idea of an infinite universe) is almost impossible.
Re: The Universe is NOT Infinite [Proof] The sphere is three dimensional. The surface isn't. Think about traveling on the earth. You can go to any location you want with only two reference points, latitude and longitude. Two dimensions.
Re: The Universe is NOT Infinite [Proof] A sphere is a three dimensional shape, surface or not. There is height, width and depth.
Re: The Universe is NOT Infinite [Proof] @ Seth Not in physics and math. "In physics and mathematics, the dimension of a mathematical space (or object) is informally defined as the minimum number of coordinates needed to specify any point within it. Thus a line has a dimension of one because only one coordinate is needed to specify a point on it – for example, the point at 5 on a number line. A surface such as a plane or the surface of a cylinder or sphere has a dimension of two because two coordinates are needed to specify a point on it – for example, both a latitude and longitude is required to locate a point on the surface of a sphere. The inside of a cube, a cylinder or a sphere is three-dimensional because three coordinates are needed to locate a point within these spaces." http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dimension
Re: The Universe is NOT Infinite [Proof] Sorry Seth, but you're wrong there. Surface AREA is an area - areas work along only the x and y axes (eg Area of a Rectangle = Length x Width : that's only two dimensions). You can think of it in this way: a surface area is basically the "skin" of a sphere. It can theoretically be removed, placed on a flat surface, and have its area calculated.
Re: The Universe is NOT Infinite [Proof] New models suggest no Big Bang. The Cosmic Mocrowave Background is the most common evidence used to point to the Big Bang, but a new theory uniting general relativity with (i believe) quantum mechanics points to the existence of a once smaller, but infinitely old, universe. Also, entropy doesnt indicate a finite universe. Though it is true that energy dissapates, this does not imply that the universe would have no usable energy left by this point in time. Models predict that this point would be in trillions of years after the BB. Personally, i believe that the universe may not be infinite, but is exanding to infinity at almost the speed of light. What i cant wrap my head around is that the universe is flat and not a kind of sperical object. Fascinating stuff
Re: The Universe is NOT Infinite [Proof] He never said anything about area. I'm thinking geometry and stuff. Say area next time dudes
Re: The Universe is NOT Infinite [Proof] Mate if you are not smart enough to understand the mathematics of a perfecty possible model of an infinite universe then don't bother commenting on this topic please. I know what I posted is by far the hardest to imagine from all post until now, but if you can't understand or imagine it it's useless to dicuss as you don't understand what could be going on.
Re: The Universe is NOT Infinite [Proof] Maurix, discussion is cool. It's fun. But if you're going to belittle and insult people on a fantastic thread, don't reply. Yes I know it isn't my thread.
Re: The Universe is NOT Infinite [Proof] Unfortunately you are confusing the existence of matter with the universe. The hardest concept to accept in science is that we are living in a universe that literally is expanding into space that was inhabited by nothing. When you accept there is nothing and that the universe is expanding into it. Everything is quantifiable. But proving the existence of nothing and that it is infinite is if course the hardest thing to prove and accept for a race that quantifies its existence by what we can perceive. So sorry op. totally wrong on the theory.
