    Yes. It's truly an acronym. Which means it should *always* be depicted in all caps: LOL. The problem with that is that many chat clients take LOL in caps and substitute it with an emoticon and a sound. Most annoying. I bypass that by keeping it all lowercase. In no instance, however, is it proper to only capitalize the first letter. Lol. Impossible. Meaningless.
