Re: The Great Debate The education system now is just ****** up... Just a few decades ago school and college we're not as important as they are seen to be now. Now if a kid says he wants to live his life happily, the adults will advise, no not advise, they will TELL him that if he goes to school gets good grades then goes to college and gets good good grades there too he will be happy in life... They tell him that do the highest paying Job not the Job you want to do which is complete bs cause what's the point of just living if you are not actually living? It does not make sense if you just go on living doing what you dont want to to
Re: The Great Debate ^ thats no problem of education, but of the parents. I yet have to meet parents who tell their children to get a good job instead of a fun job. Not everyone should go to college, simply not everyone can handle it and secondly we need low educated people as much as highly educated ones. Remember the trash collecters (idk the official name) in NYC striked? the entire. city shut down. College is a choice and it should be
Re: The Great Debate Need college for job. Need money for college. Need job for money. This is the eternal circle of **** your dreams that our loving society has concocted. That's all my opinion on the topic.
Re: The Great Debate In job requirements, I think it sometimes need to finish college to consider that you are a skilled worker (or have enough knowledge for the job itself). Just an opinion.....
Re: The Great Debate I agree with you but this thing of 'If you want to get a Job you go to college' is because of the system that our society has formed... Humans have formed... Also about the trash collectors? We'll most probably have robots to do that for us unless the robots decide to turn on us and kill us all!!!
Re: The Great Debate if only people who go to college get a job, the majority of the people wouldnt have a job nowadays. there are still plenty of jobs that dont require college.
Re: The Great Debate This statement carries truth in it. You will always need people in lower skilled positions but if everyone aspires "to get a better job, better education" then you will see an issure arise that mirrors exactly what is happening in modern day America. There are no "good jobs left" and Americans are forced to work jobs not related to their degree in any way. Yet the manual labor jobs still exist and those holes are being plugged with migrant workers. If you over educate a society, then there will be a skills shortage on the lower end. You can blame this on the "pride" that education brings to the table and everyone knows how much pride an American has. Everyone thinks they are better because they paid their way through school and got that good job, well mostly everyone, but that pride exists, and because of it, no one wants to be a janitor when they grow up.
Re: The Great Debate You just spent 150 grand on an education you could have gotten for $1.50 in late fees at the public library. My boy's wicked smart.
Re: The Great Debate That's exactly it. The information is out there but college gives the background information and the experience on how to use said knowledge.
Re: The Great Debate lol, i was just spewing lines from good will hunting. But in all honesty the majority of kids that go to college would be better off going to a trade school. A lot less expensive and you learn something that is useful in the real world. Too many kids go to school with no idea what they want out of life and end up switching majors too often and end up with a useless degree.
Re: The Great Debate You are nothing in the workforce without that piece of paper stating you are educated. Sure. There are plenty of millionaires with no college education. Successful people have figured out a successful skill. College helps with that. Learning. But if you have no drive and no idea how to make money, college doesn't help you at all. I can't tell you how many people I was in school with that said "I'm taking Liberal Arts or various classes because I have no idea what I want to do with my life." That was infuriating. Mommy and Daddy paying for their education and they squander it. If two people side-by-side applied for the same job, and one had a degree, and the other didn't, it's a no-brainer. The educated person gets that job. Unless the educated person has zero people skills, smelled because they hadn't showered in a week, had bad clothing, or didn't look professional, and had a tattoo on their forehead.... You see, presentation, charisma, style and knowledge of the field are the most crucial things employers look for now. Will you be able to do this job, and co-exist with everyone. Not all jobs require college level education, the worker in 2015 needs to figure out what it wants to be, and if it needs college at all....
Re: The Great Debate I have a friend who just finished a degree in psychology, and she can't figure out why she can't find a job in her field. I asked her what her overall GPA was, and she reported it was a 2.2 or a C average basically. And in her core classes, she maintained a D or better, but usually D's. Now she sits around complaining how life is hard and how college was easy because she got to party it up until the sun came up and still pass her classes. Yet I wonder why she can't find a job, she's done no research work, no extra-curricular, and has no ambition outside of her 30-40 hr/week summer job waitressing. She's basically waiting for jobs to come to her. Now willy, I agree completely that people should not attend a university without a shred of confidence in what they will do nor should they attend it if they have no work ethic. I guess in rare occasions, universities can teach you work ethic, but it looks like a funnel of legal money operations to snake every dollar out of every student then kick away those who either don't know what they want, or just can't get through the system. Who's fault is this really if all the children are told that only college will bring success? The unprepared children or the administration treating public and some private universities as a company. Sure some people don't get it or won't get it, but should they have to pay such a heavy burden?
Re: The Great Debate I guess the lifestyle in other countries is different then..... In our country, going to college is a big dream, mostly the poor, so that their children wouldn't be like them when they grow up. Ppl in our country do have dreams when they come to college. There are rare ppl (or no ppl that I know) who don't have a dream when they are about to go to college. Sometimes, they just follow their parent's footsteps, and sometimes follow their dreams. But money? I'll try to imagine the other side if I can..... The cost for education really depends in the school itself. If I were the one who owns a school, I think it's fair to make it cost high because of how much does it also cost to make the college school itself, get employees, teachers, staff, plus their salary. Plus the fact that teachers (or should I call it professors) are skilled-workers so it would cost more for their salary. College or university is a big thing to make and organize as well. And add the cost of making programs, books, maintenance, improvements and stuff. It may take ages to retrieve the money you invest to make a university, (plus the fact that there are many employess whom you need to pay salary) but if that money have taken back, I would (or may) use it to improve the school more or lessen the tuition. But if the owner (or me since I'm still imagining) is rich enough, I would make a college university which cost less or have free stuff. There are some programs which only need a few money to make you a skilled worker and be able to work not only here but abroad. But I guess it just really depends. It depends in how you can still afford to make your child (or you) finish college, how much does it cost for your tuition, if there are some programs for scholarships, if the maker of the school planned to have more money come from it, if you are kind enough to give more free stuff, if the programs are actually near your home, if how the school system work there, etc.
Re: The Great Debate Ayyyy mah nigga. I was c212. You? On topic, college is a waste of money. Don't get stuck in a white collar job. Just start a business and work till the money works for you.
