All of my photoshops are handdone. I mean look at the example. There are a lot of them I saw on the thread that were amazing.
Actually, so were mine xD I also just realized #4 and #9 were also done digitally. My bad. Oh and congratulations to the finalists!
@jester I am a fairly good artist that works with realism (yes the picture I posted wasn't amazing I did it in a day) and that is a medium that takes a long time. I also work with Photoshop and by experience it's much easier. Maybe that's just me, but I think it's significantly easier once you understand what you're doing.
Yours was good, Poison. Maybe they just didn't want a scantily clad lady as a finalist For those that didn't see it:
I've been told I am good with Photoshop as well, but for the devs to say any medium can be used but not chose one of the other mediums. It's like favoritism.
Maybe they just preferred the look of the drawn ones instead? If it was a music contest, and one guy managed to do an awesome drum solo, but other musicians are mostly singers or pianists, you can't hate on them for not choosing the drummer even if he was possibly the best drummer in the world. They just preferred the singers.
Okay, so I'm only posting this to prove a point. I did this by hand: and I did this with Photoshop: I'd say I "understand what I'm doing" yet the one done on Photoshop took more effort and much longer, despite using a picture of the girl. So yeah, I'd say it is just you. It depends on the art done, as well as who's doing it. I'm just saying that all entries should be given the same consideration, no matter what was used to create it, or how it looks. But I think the ones chosen were all great, so it's all good. Oh and thank you MissMelon
I'm sure the photoshopped ones took plenty of time and were difficult to make, but this is an ART contest. Meaning they had to be some what compositionally and aesthetically pleasing while also encompassing the theme. Many (and i do mean MANNNNNNNY) of the photoshopped submissions were pretty homely... and thats being nice. If this was an effort contest then you'd all have a gold star. But it's not. Learn a thing or two about art and then try for the next one. Congratulations to the finalists. Let the haters hate and let the butthurt flow.
Art by definition: the expression or application of human creative skill and imagination, typically in a visual form such as painting or sculpture, producing works to be appreciated primarily for their beauty or emotional power. Photoshop is an expression of emotion therefore it is art. Please take your **** elsewhere.
Jester you would be one of the disgruntled citizens of kaw that i was referring to. I study art... like at an actual art school. I don't just dink around for fun and call it art. Now, the definition of art is COMPLETELY up for interpretation, as any artist, read it in any text book. It's an age old debate. I was not discrediting any of the submissions by saying they were not art, I was saying that there were many photoshopped submissions that simply were not very good art. There is a difference. There were a couple that I was very impressed with. Poisonus submissions being one of them. He deserved to be in the top ten IMO. Now again... continue to hate. These guys did a good job.
In my defense when it comes to spirit of the holidays >.> I spent mine moth hunting... Not much familial activity in my home so it hits pretty close to home with mine lol >.<
Next time KaW has an art contest, I'll just use my 3DS to draw it. Yes, my 3DS. I will use a $5 program, and make art with it. It's not Photoshop, nor gimp or any fancy program. It's a 3DS that give you four brushes, the color wheel, and but 5 layers to use to make it look pretty, compared to Photoshop's nearly infinite, from what I've experienced with it. I have faith in myself, because I can do this. And that was nearly a year ago. It sucks, I admit it, but it's still good enough, right?
SORRY! lol she* darn ambiguous names. oh, and on another note about photoshop: unless you are using stock photography, have permission from the ORIGINAL creator of clip/photo/background or whatever you are using, and or went out with your own camera and took pictures of your materials yourself, IT IS STEALING. I'm willing to bet that the vast majority of the ppl who submitted photoshopped art work were not so ambitious. Stealing is stealing, whether its a simple gif of a candy cane from a search engine, or a christmas tree from a magazine. I'm willing to bet that this is also why no photoshopped pieces were selected. So stop accusing the devs of being bias.
This arguement us the only time I will be reading this weekend ๎ and such big words that are very interesting spelling too
