  3. Chapter 3 Part 1: Cliff Hanger
Landing head first on a giant rock, was one thing but getting partial recall because of the rock was another.
Although still unconscious, Hector was still able to think within his head. The glorious part of it all was that he remembered almost everything.
I’m Hector Daniels, most powerful demigod of the ‘Circle of the 12.’ The school for children of the major gods and minor gods. Hector smiled slightly at the power he held. Along with his newfound identity and popularity ranking, he also remembered all the things he’s done since he had attended the school.
The boy in the wheelchair that Selene had pointed out earlier that day was a child of Hephaestus. Hector couldn’t remember his name though. He remembered this prank he pulled in great detail. As his victim was working on a very detailed shield, Hector laid his hands on the metal table he was working on, and the rest was a blur. But he was positive the boy wasn’t happy about it.
Hector also remembered the Aphrodite girl who Selene also pointed out while she was applying make up. She had been his girlfriend a few months back, but it wasn’t going so well for the fact she was so gorgeous and perfect in every way. Since that break up, he had never gone out with an Aphrodite girl again.
The most horrific thought that came to his mind was his encounter with Selene. Selene is the only daughter of Artemis. Artemis is the goddess of the hunt and virginity. All of the children of Artemis that had attended the school had died shortly afterwards.
Hector thought back to the time when he was a flirt and had tried to win Selene’s heart.
What a fool I was. Hector thought, the guilt slowly suffocating him.
A stabbing pain in his head and rib cage immediately broke him from his guilt. One thing came clearly into his mind; this pain wasn’t part of his thought bubble.

  4. Chapter 3 Part 2
Hector forced his eyes opened, although it caused staggering pain to his head, he could see clearly.
A teenager was carrying him like a farmer would carry a sack of grain. He seemed to blend with the shadows as they were walking in a darker part of the area. Looking down at his hands, Hector was surprised they seemed misty and darker too.
“Where are you taking me,” Hector asked in a hoarse voice.
“Somewhere, someplace,” he replied in a sinister voice with a slight touch of joy to the tone.
Looking up, Hector found that they were walking farther and farther away from the temple where Selene probably laid. The smell of seawater began to get stronger too.
“And here we are!” his perpetrator said, raising his arms high.
Hector found that they were at a cliff looking over a beautiful blue ocean with sea arches and pillars. His pulse increased and he knew he was in danger.
Looking at the teen he found his shadowy finger was almost invisible in the sunlight. The arms of the shadow went up to his head and pulled off a large metal helm and shook out his long, jet-black hair.
Hector stood up to his feet, watching his balance because he new one false move would send him toppling over the edge of the cliff.
“What do you want from me?” Hector asked, shaking in fear.
In a swift movement the teen pulled out a long sword that was strapped behind his back.
“Don’t play games with me demigod,” he said menacingly. He pointed the tip of his sword at Hector’s throat. His hand was shaking violently, as if he didn’t want to kill him.

  5. Chapter 3 Part 3
Swallowing, Hector took half a step backwards, his foot nearly over the edge. There was no possible escape.
The stranger smiled a twisted smile. “Oh, look at that, Charybdis has come for a visit.”
Hector took one glance at the ocean and knew his chances of survival weren’t good. A monstrous whirlpool was in the sea, and this wasn’t a normal whirlpool. It sucked up everything in its path; a few birds, the sea arches, the sea pillars, and Hector had a feeling he was going to be next.
“Please don’t do this,” Hector begged.
The boy had conflicted emotions and it was seen clearly on his face. With a swift movement of his sword, the blade no longer faced Hector.
“Say goodbye demigod,” he growled. With a hefty movement of his arm, the hilt of the sword stuck Hector hard in the chest. That was enough to send Hector toppling over the edge.

  6. Chapter 4 Part 1: Like a Fish Out of Water
Falling over a cliff to your watery gave isn’t exactly a fun thing to do. It especially wasn’t fun for Hector. He had tried to find something to hold on to like a branch. It always seemed to work in cartoons. But all he did was scrape his hands.
If I won’t bleed to death, he thought, the impact or the whirlpool would kill me.
Hector curled into a ball to brace for impact.
    This is going to hurt.
In a split second he was surrounded by water. The impact and the movement of the whirlpool had possibly broken both of his legs making them useless. The strong pull of the whirlpool made him spin around like a rag doll in a washing machine.
Already he was beginning to run out of breath. He knew he would burst any second and then drown.
His arms sunk down to his pocket where he found a few small objects in his pockets. Fighting the force of the current, he stuffed his hand into his pockets and pulled out a grayish sphere the size of a marble.
In the water, he was beginning to panic and Hector opened his mouth for air only to swallow large amounts of water. His hands gripped around the small sphere and he felt it break in his hands. A second later, he felt sparks flow through his body and an electrical blast exploded from his fist into the heart of the whirlpool.

  7. Chapter 4 Part 2
Already, Hector began to become unconscious, swallowing more and more water. A rumbling noise erupted from the pit of the pool, and Hector got sucked deep into the ocean and somehow was spat back out.
Hector opened his eyes as he realized he was flung fifty feet above the water, and everything else the whirlpool had spit out was beginning to fall back into the ocean.
Not again. He thought as he braced for a second impact.
As he began to fall, he waved his arms wildly as if he were trying to fly. In the corner of his eye, Hector saw something that could save his life.
A spear was coming straight at him, and he didn’t bother to hesitate as he grabbed it. The spear was cold to the touch and, Hector almost released his grip until it dawned on him that his hands were frozen to the spear.
Taking another dip in the ocean was not fun if you were just swallowed by a giant whirlpool and regurgitated back out, but Hector held his breath anyway as he was plunged back in.
The impact was much softer than his last fall, but the slight ripple of water that hit his legs caused him great pain.
Hector managed to bring his head out of the water to look at the by standers looking out into the sea at the edge of the cliff.
“We got him! Pull him back up!” he heard a voice yell.
Hector was slowly drawn out of the water. Looking down at his legs, he found them bent and crooked.
Now I know how the Hephaestus kid felt.
“Destan! Keep pulling! Dour manipulate the water!” the voice commanded again.
A bubbling noise sounded from the ocean directly under him. Hector gripped the spear tighter as a giant wave erupted out of the ocean and gave him a gentle boost from the waist down.

  8. Chapter 4 Part 3
First the whirlpool now this. Hector thought as he felt his torso being hugged tightly by the wave and the pulling becoming faster.
Hector heard a bit of bickering coming from above. Nearly right after the bickering ended, the rope attached to the spear slid down a few feet.
“Watch it!” Hector yelled angrily as he collided with the cliff face.
“Sorry!” a skinny blond boy said as he gripped the rope tightly.
Hector grabbed a tuft of grass from the top of the cliff for a handhold. Three people helped haul him up until he was safely on the rocky grounds of the school.
Two faces looked down on him, both looking identical. Each face had blue eyes and a mane of blonde hair.
“I think I swallowed too much water,” Hector groaned as he closed his eyes to ease the queasiness in his stomach.
“Destan, Dour, thank you,” a familiar voice said. Followed by a shrill female voice saying, “Destan you’re a hero!”
“Sonya, help me out here,” the voice familiar voice said.
Sonya replied, “Of course Mr. Trayton.”
Hector felt his back being supported by Mr. Trayton as Sonya helped prop him up on his elbows. Hector vomited water after that.
“That is disgusting,” Sonya said taking a few steps away from him.
“Excuse me for diving down a cliff!” Hector replied irritated with the girl.
Mr. Trayton rolled his eyes at the two. Hector looked him in the face and realized his eyes were gray too.
“Ray! Come over here!” Mr. Trayton yelled to a young boy listening to an MP3 player. “Hector,” he began, “This might hurt so just brace yourself.”
Hector gulped down another wave of nausea.

  9. Chapter 4 Part 4
“Mr. Trayton, you’re not honestly going to use Ray to heal him?” Sonya asked, disgusted with the idea. “He couldn’t even heal a dog with a scrape on his nose, and trust me I’ve seen him try.”
“Every other Apollo demigod is with Selene, and this isn’t a mortal injury anyway.”
Sonya crossed her arms and eyed Mr. Trayton angrily. It reminded Hector of Thanksgiving at his old house.
“Fine, but I won’t be here when he starts screaming in pain.” Sonya said walking away.
“What ya need Mr. T?” Ray asked drumming away on imaginary drums with two crude twigs.
“γιατί να τον?” Mr. Trayton asked looking up to the now cloudless sky.
Why him? Hector translated, beginning to worry.
“I need you to do a healing,” Mr. Trayton said, gently tapping Hector’s legs to find the most damage.
Ray’s hands froze in mid air and he immediately dropped his drumsticks.
“You know I can’t heal, Mr. Trayton. If you need a healing ask one of my bros or sisters.”
“Try Ray, we need help. Everyone else is with Selene.”
Hector’s heart suddenly dropped as he remembered that Selene was the one who has pushed him out of the way.
“How is Selene?” Hector blurted out, suddenly embarrassed by himself.
Mr. Trayton looked over at the temple where a large amount of demigods were busily tending to her. If you squinted very closely, you could still see the arrow sticking out of her delicate body.
“She’ll be fine,” Mr. Trayton said, obviously distressed with the situation.

  10. Chapter 4 Part 5
“I have to go see her,” Hector decided, even though his legs were worthless. “I’ll crawl if I have to.”
Mr. Trayton gently pushed Hector back in a sitting position.
“Boy, you’re not going to see Zeus even if he electrocuted you with those legs.” Mr. Trayton said, suddenly looking anxiously up to the sky. “Ray, the honor is yours.”
Ray upped the volume on his MP3 as if it relaxed him. He stretched out his fingers and wiped the sweat off on his neon green t-shirt and tattered faded jeans.
“Try not to scream Hector,” Ray said laying his hands on Hector’s legs.
Hector clenched his fists and gritted his teeth, waiting for the healing. “No promises,” he said.

  11. Chapter 5 Part 1: (No suitable titile name yet)
Hector ran to the temple as quickly as he could run. He managed to jump over a few rocks and climb over the large boulders with ease.
I feel like a new man. He thought smiling.
Ray did an excellent job on his legs. They were flawless except for a few scratches, which would eventually heal. He still had a lot of salt water in him though, but Mr. Trayton said as long as he stayed hydrated he’d be fine. He had a few broken ribs too, but Ray patched them up just as well as he did his legs. Mr. Trayton was so impressed with his first major healing; he promoted Ray to ‘Level 2 Healer.’
Hector made on final leap over a large rock and sprinted towards the temple. A group of demigods were surrounding a marble table, bickering among themselves.
“We have to pull the arrow out first!” one kid yelled.
“No, no!” another demigod disagreed. “It will cause too much pain! We put her to sleep then heal her!”
Another demigod intervened and began to argue. “Are you that stupid? Putting an injured person to sleep will only increase chances of death!”
The bickering went on and on and on. Hector pushed his way through to the front of the group where Selene lay crippled on the marble table.
The bickering continued around him, while Selene lay deadly still on the table, the arrow still jutting out of her stomach.
Hector dug into his pockets and was surprised to find that his gray marbles were still there. He looked closely into them and found the sphere was actually transparent and it seemed there were small storm clouds moving around in the sphere.
Hector crushed the sphere in the palm of his hands and threw the broken pieces up high into the air.
As they began to fall back down, each piece popped and exploded into a small electrical blast. The commotion caught everyone’s attention.

  12. Chapter 5 Part 2
“Everyone pay attention!” Hector yelled. Everyone stopped bickering to listen to his words. “Selene is dying right now and all you can do is bicker!”
The group silenced glancing around at each other guiltily. A few Apollo demigods whispered to each other urgently. One finally stepped up to face Hector.
“Hector,” the demigod started off, “Selene is in a delicate position right now. Even if we did manage to pull out the arrow, she would bleed to death. The arrow is still in her and is puncturing her stomach. She’s bleeding to death right now. She would die either way.”
Hector’s face paled and his heart sunk. This would be the first time he would witness someone dying, if he had the heart to actually stay.
The demigod obviously sensed Hector’s distress and quickly added another quick sentence.
“We can do as much as we can to comfort her though.”
Hector looked at Selene’s face as she gave a weak sigh and closed her eyes, accepting her fate.
Hector pressed his lips together pushing his way out of the crowd, his hands clenched in fists and his face distorted with frustration and grief. He walked rather quickly out of the temple, not even looking at Mr. Trayton or Ray.
“Hector!” Mr. Trayton called. “Hector come here!”
Hector just ignored the calls and ran even faster, farther away from the temple where death lingered in the air.
He scraped his knees along the way as he struggled to scramble over the rocks and boulders of Greece.
He didn’t exactly know where he was going, but he didn’t exactly care or notice. One minute he found himself running from the temple, the next minute he found himself trying to climb over a mountain of rocks.
Why the heck am I doing this? Hector asked himself, as he lost his footing and scraped his knee for the hundredth time that day.
As much as he wanted to stop, his feet declined and he continued to pull through. Hector hauled himself up over the mountain and stood up to see a sight he would never forget. His scrapes and scratches were quickly forgotten.

  15. Chapter 6 Part 1: Home Sweet Home
Hector feasted his eyes on a glorious sight. Twelve Greek style houses stood tall and grand in a large circle. In the middle of the circle was a large pit of fire, unlit, and twelve different stone paths leading to each home. Hector took the first path he saw and walked to the pit of fire.
Looking into the pit he found a lot of ash and charred firewood. Inhaling, he found the smell of the pit wasn’t a putrid or burnt odor. Instead, the aroma of every food you could possibly think of was filling the air around Hector.
Turning away Hector walked down the random path he had chosen, trying to keep the smell of bacon and vanilla ice cream in his nostrils.
The path Hector was walking on was a crimson red stone path, stained with what seemed like blood. Hector came to the end of the path and found himself looking into a large courtyard. The door to the house was rotting away, and an archway of bones surrounded the entrance. At the top of the archway was a poorly made sign with a word scribbled quickly on it.
Άρης was written on the sign in what seemed like blood too. Hector translated the word to Ares. The name of the Greek god sent chills up his spine all ready. Hector moved on to the next home, not bothering to explore that house.
The next path Hector chose was much more inviting. The path was white marble with green flecks. On either side of the path there were beautiful flowers, some that were exotic, and others that were found anywhere. The door to the house was a lightweight piece of birch wood, which Hector easily pushed aside. The large courtyard was covered in grass, instead of the traditional pounded dirt floor. The grass was speckled with colorful flowers and in the middle of the courtyard was a large altar.

  16. Chapter 6 Part 2
Hector walked into the middle of the courtyard to get a closer look at the altar. A young woman was sitting in what looked like a field of flowers. Her statue was holding a grain of wheat in one hand, and delicately holding a flower in the other.
A golden plaque was screwed to the bottom of the statue. The word:
Δήμητρα was welded into the plaque. Hector immediately knew the statue of the young woman was a statue of the Greek goddess Demeter.
Hector walked out of the Greek home, closing the door gently behind him in case anyone was still in the house. He walked briskly out of the circle of homes, to grieve along with the others about Selene’s passing, until one grand house caught his eye.
The house was much bigger than any of the others and it stood directly in front of the fire pit. Hector walked up to the path that led to the house. The majority of the path was plain gray, but a bright yellow bolt shaped piece of metal cut down the middle.
Hector walked respectfully down the path all the way to the large door of the home. He didn’t even need to read the large cloud shaped sign above the silver door that read:
    Ζεύς.
He had already known this home was dedicated to the god of the gods, the almighty Zeus.
Hector pushed open the silver door rather easily and found himself standing in a very large courtyard. The ground was grass, like the yard at the Demeter home, but not half as lush or green. A large temple stood in the middle of the yard.
A statue of Zeus portrayed him sitting on an embellished throne holding a lightning bolt in one hand and one his hands laid on the arm of his throne. His face looked worn away and a beard covered most of his mouth.
Hector wiped away the dust on the silver plaque that read Ζεύς until it shone. Hector looked around the area of the grand house. A clear glass roof rose above his head and on either side of him were Greek columns holding up the roof.
Hector went to the nearest door at his right and opened it widely. Inside he found a large wooden dining table with an electric blue silk cloth and two reclining chairs. Hector inhaled and the sweet smell of incense filled his sense of smell.
The room next to what seemed like a dining room was much smaller than that room. This room was plastered with white tile flecked with gold. The sink was white marble and when Hector turned it on, spring water flowed out of it. A toilet was set in the corner and Hector knew this was apparently the restroom. Hector moved on to the next room, which was simply a room cluttered with crates and boxes and what looked like armor.
Hector took a flight of stairs that led to the second story of the house, ignoring the kitchen with its cluttered utensils.
The door to this room was painted electric blue with a lightning bolt painted down the middle. A sign hung on the door that read:
εισέλθουν και να πάρετε ηλεκτροπληξία, which Hector, translated as enter and get electrocuted.
Hector gripped his hand on the door and gave a push, thinking to himself I’ll take that chance.
