She still has major powers such as total control of the armed forces and being able to dissolve parliament
Those are defined as her duties as monarch she has three basic rights Her Majesty’s actual rights as a Queen are only three: The right to be consulted by the Prime Minister To encourage certain courses of action To warn against others Other than that she's has duties as monarch to defend her nation.
The Republic was neutral, the North being part of the UK fought in the war, the ship building there was vitally important for the Royal Navy, and the strategic position meant that without Northern Irish ports for american shipments to dock at, the UK would of starved. That's why Germany bombed Belfast so heavily and was the City to suffer the most casualties in one night of the blitz other than London.
But to claim she has no major powers is stupidity, the army swears allegiance to her and she can get rid of parliament. She can make a dictatorship if she really wanted.
No she really can't as she can't express a political opinion and she also must sign any bills presented by parliament.
Rememberance Sunday will now also be a day of mourning in Russia due to the downed passenger plane in Egypt
She doesn't have to give Royal assent to bills presented by parliament, she still has the power to refuse the bill meaning it doesn't become law. And when the army swears allegiance to her who will stop her if she decides to express a political opinion and make a dictatorship?
Ok so seeing as no monarch since 1707 has refused assent for a parliamentary, I'd say it's pretty unlikely that archaic law is ever going to be used again. The army swears a oath of loyalty to the head of state. It's the queen now it maybe King Charles next or maybe king William. Still doubt that they'd follow them if they cried havoc and let slip the dogs of war. So you are attempting to nitpick arguments that are irrelevant to the actual Op for no decent reason
I replied to you not the op. it is unlikely that it will be used but it is still a power that is held by the monarch, and no matter what excuses you use that power still exists. As for the army not following the monarch if it happened, you can't claim that. There are to many little things to consider on that topic that could make the army follow the monarch or not, so all you can actually do is guess.
On Remembrance Sunday I will not being wearing a red poppy ( due to it being "blood stained" and it glorifying war ) instead I encourage people(who are against the red poppy or who choose not to wear one due to other political or personal reasons) to wear a white poppy which symbolises peace and disarmament.
When I joined the armed forces I swore allegiance to the queen and also to the people of England to defend both against tyranny and threats no matter where they come from, to defend my homeland against all enemy's, home and abroad, as has many do and did for the protection of our lands and people no matter what, war is war,.... trolls proceed.
Shaun how does a red poppy glorify war ? It's to remember the fallen not to glorify the wars they fought in
Whether you choose to remember or not, it's personal choice, millions of people around the world will remember the fallen. RIP.
