Questioning our Moral Identities

  1. There are many degrees of murder though
Im seriously ill, i may live another year but i will basically be a working brain in a useless body, unable to do anything.
So in a few weeks my husband will be helping me to end my life.
Does this make him a murderer? Does he deserve jail, or worse still the death penalty, just for doing something which, if done to the family dog will be called 'merciful' and 'the best thing?'

  2. Thats still incorrect though. The Middle East hasn't seen a period of peace for awhile before the mid-60s. Just because you are connecting the beginning of Middle Eastern violence to the beginning of Middle Eastern violence versus Israel doesn't mean other serious violence didn't exist almost immediately prior to the mid1960s.

  3. Im sorry about your condition. You're brave for talking about it. The topic of euthanasia is controversial. I'd say I'm generally in favor of it, but only if the person chooses it while they are of sound mental health.

I hope they find a cure and that you get better.

  4. I said it was "largely at peace." That's much different than saying "violence didn't exist prior to the mid 60s." A place can be largely at peace while still having violence.

Take the US, for example. We've had deadly riots, mass shooting, and police brutality. Wouldn't you agree that although the violence was taking place, we were still largely at peace?

  5. Gang wars, drug wars, war on terror.
    All currently ongoing.
I'd say peace is still a little out of reach.

  6. Good point! I hadn't thought of that.

  7. I've never really considered violent insurrections, WWI, WWII, the Armenian genocide and ethnic / religious purges as "largely at peace". In that case we have an extremely peaceful world history. I won't hate because that's a positive view I guess.

  8. Gang? .
