  1. Chapter 17
    Kantos
I was curious on how exactly Utho died, but it really didn’t matter. The mission was screwed, but I wasn’t really surprised, because I knew that reckless Utho was going to find a way to get himself killed. The king had underestimated the strength of the rebellion, especially the young Veronica. The Drow seems pretty powerful, so they really don’t have a hopeless cause. That’s why I made the decicion…
The main rebel leaders and I gathered around a table in the inn, because none of us treasured the idea of gathering around a dead body. Veronica sat at the head of the table and cleared her throat. She announced, “You all are probably wondering why the elf is dead. Im really not in the mood to make a long and dreary speech, so I’ll make it short and sweet: Utho was a traitor to the rebellion and couldn’t be kept alive. The other, and obviously less reckless, mercenary was wise to follow orders. I now would like to announce that I am opening a vote to decide what to do with him. Should we keep him as prisoner, or let him go free?”
Excited mumbling rippled through the leaders. Cran was the first to speak, “I fought alongside Kantos in this battle, and with no question he was the best one out there. So, I say we keep him here as a weapon.”
Next was Relan, who said, “I agree with Cran that Kantos is a decent fighter, but that is why I say that he should be free. He has done the rebellion a service, so why should we hold him prisoner?” Zrame agreed.
Arzon stood up, “No way, Kantos has been determined a permanent prisoner, and that’s the way it should be!”
Only Veronica was left. After a short pause, she quietly decided, “Kantos has been a loyal prisoner, or as loyal as you could be when you are kept in handcuffs, and only released to fight. I have thought about this carefully, and I know that he should be free. Kantos, pack up your things, and you leave tomorrow.”
They all started to get up, but I said, “Now wait just one minute here, I am grateful you have released me, but I was thinking. You all are nice people, and defiantly brave, but the best part, you fight almost every week! I am pleased to announce that, as long as I don’t have to wear those blasted handcuffs and gag, I wish to fight alongside the rebellion!”
The all stared, but then a smile crept on Veronica’s face. “You may have a spot in my squad, and who knows, you might make a good general! Welcome to the Rebellion!”

  2. Chapter 18
    Veronica
    Friendship

We started walking back to camp after the little meeting. I was pleased that Kantos had decided to join our cause, and even happier that I didn't have to worry about Utho again. I rubbed my shoulder in the spot he had shot me. It still hurt, but the blood had stopped.

I walked along with Kantos at my side. "Thank you for joining the rebelion. You regret it. We must free our people from the evil deeds that the King has done."

"No problem. It's time I fought for a real reason, not just for money."

"And if you know anyone who would like to join our cause, recruit them. We need more members."

Kantos thought for a moment. "Ill get back to you on that," he said.

I nodded, then went over to Ligrr. "Thank you for saving me back there. I owe you one."

"It was an honor my lady. And you owe me nothing. It was I who owed you when you treated my wounds."

"We're even then." I said. "And please. Don't call me 'my lady.' it sounds so.. formal."

"Then what shall I call you?"

    "How about...a friend?"

Ligrr nodded and I saw a faint smile crawl on her lips. "What is our next mission, then?"

"Im thinking were going to have to do some major recruiting."

"Excellent!" Ligrr said. "I'll start right away."

I looked at the darkening sky. "Its late now. We should rest, then start in the morning."

By that time we had reached the camp. Everyone was tired, but they're spirits were high. Ligrr went into her tent, and I went into mine. By this time tomorrow, I hoped we'd have some new members.
