Slavery now is different. Slavery in recent years has been because of people thinking they are superior to another race. I already gave you proof that no man can be stolen and then sold. So you might ask where slaves come from? Slaves are often poor people who go to the rich to become slaves, they may be slaves but they are taken care of and they can bring their families as well. It's simply a way people in poverty survived and took care of their families.
Personally, I think it would be hilarious if Trump won. It'd be fun to see what happened in this country. I can't stand Ben Carson. Things like his comparison of abortion to slavery are things I could never agree with.
What does religion have to do with politics anyways. Stay focussed. Why not vote Democrat if its a better option or not. Voters loyalty is nothing. Vote the best in. U want governing vote what fits u best n religion n other distractions r other separate matters IMO.
Actually theres still a debate if Haitians chopping sugar cane are still slaves. Sugar Cane Harvesting has never been a job anyone in History wanted to do. Obviously I'm not talking about processing sugar, but people who still chop sugar cane with machetes. They didn't go to a rich person and tell them I want to harvest cane... So Idk where all your facts are coming from lol. Also slavery is widely involved in African… blood diamonds, children soldiers… all still slave work. Slavery can be defined in anyway but when it comes down to it… if someone is doing something for free involuntary and under poor conditions its slave labor. Also there is no proof that people aren't sold into slavery anymore… If you say that just because someone works to survive at bare minimum is any different than slavery in the past that's incorrect too. People have always done that, not always did they go up and ask though. In Latin America Colonization indigenous men had to travel two days to deliver tribute and work in the mita(draft Rotary system). They were paid enough to pay for their food while they were working. Even Fransciscans missionaries begged for their conditions to change, to be treated humanely. They had to leave their family to work to eat for the day whole their family were starving in their semisedentary environments. Its actually not as simple as you say it is… its not just a matter of those in poverty surviving. Yes sometimes they survive a day at a time, but can't deny the poor condition and treatment of the individual. Anyway /justsaying. Taken care of my ass, a lot of people working as what your country considers slave work today are still treated like animals. Like hell the places you say those doing slave labor are taken care of have the highest suicide rates. They have to put Nets up so they don't jump in china. Literally if thats being taken care of then obviously human dignity and well-being means nothing…. May as well just treat them like property. /endsarcasm
Higher wages would cause a surplus in the supply of workers but the demand for laborers would be much lower. Not as many people would have jobs
You should tax the inelastic goods, those goods that if you jacked up tax for like cigarettes or alcohol should be super high, why? Because there are always addicts, and no matter how much you tax they will always buy it. Why don't we do this? Because some people feel it immoral. Also we should tax groceries. Everyone needs to eat. Everyone. Why don't we do it? Because of those that are too lazy to search for a job and are just looking for free hand outs or those who actually did not get an equal economic opportunity. We don't tax food too much because America would lose more revenue since they have to give out more stamps. America is a country for the losers, we are here to help those that are at the bottom. That is why we are 18tril in debt.
Raising your taxes would create a larger amount of dead weight losts which makes the economy less efficient than it already is.
Your assumption here is that people are inherently lazy and aren't going to work unless they are dirt broke and can't afford to eat. The problem here is that you confuse willingness with opportunity. Families that barely have enough money to feed themselves aren't going to spend as much time looking towards their future. They might spend extra time working to make ends meet. They might not spend as much time with their kids, and might not be able to take care of them properly. Cigarettes, tobacco should be taxed. We don't want people smoking or drinking too much anyway. Canada implements those taxes as a way to decrease the amount of smokers and alcoholics in society, as well as to help pay for any health problems those people will have down the line (If you want to smoke, you have to pay more taxes on tobacco because more taxes will be going to your health care) Any taxing of the lower and middle class is bad, in my opinion. What ends up happening is the money goes into the system, then comes right back out to help the same person. I'd like to see something where the first $15,000-$18,000 dollars you made were taxed at 0%. I think Australia implemented this, but I'm not too sure - but it would be a good way to raise both bureaucratic efficiency of a country, and decrease poverty. Also, to look at things from your perspective (the idea that people are inherently lazy and won't work unless they will otherwise starve), this is a good thing, because there's more to gain by getting a job, since they won't get taxed so bad. Minimum wage: Also, looking at things based on your reasoning (this is not my own personal reasoning) it would seem that by raising the minimum wage, it increases the gap between having a job, and not having a job, which makes having a job a much better alternative. When the minimum wage is low, people make so little money that it is better to just collect money from the government. What's the point of working if you don't make any money?
@Nathan, increasing minimum wage will increase job less amongst teens and others. It is a basic understanding in economics. More homeless people and richer people or how it is now? Pick your poison. Increasing minimum wage may benefit some people but not all. And those that it benefits? Far less than those that it hurts.
According to what data? Cite actual resources please. See a ton of people saying this without actual precedence. Many of the fellow First World countries have almost double the minimum wage that we do and do not have drastically increased unemployment as you insinuate is "basic economics" which leads me to believe you haven't studied much on economics besides what you decided is economics.
"According to economics"... Do you know that there's more than 1 economic theory? There's at least 3-5 different theories used by different countries around the world. What you should really be saying is "according to George Friedman and neoconservatives", because there's few countries or economic theories which claim that taking money from the poor and giving to the rich is a good idea.
I believe this was known as the feudal system, which if memory serves right is what British colonists were against before the Revolutionary War. King James has returned to lord over you, this time around he brought friends and is a domestic threat to anyone who supports the paper idea of your nations founding.
