If their festival involved eating dog meat, then they should be able to eat the dog meat. BUT the dogs should be about to die anyway, and they get euthanized before the festival. A rule here in the US (and I'm assuming most other countries would follow this rule, because it makes a lot of sense.) is that if an animal directly causes the death or serious bodily harm, i.e, loss of limbs, ability to walk, etc., and it can be proved that it was not in self defense of the animal or a human, they have to be put down. If they want to have their festival to eat dogs, let them have to meat from the ones that were put down or already dead, right? The dogs certainly won't care, because they're dead. The festival is a cultural thing, and this one in particular is already a match near a firecracker as it is, so it shouldn't be outlawed or eliminated, but it should be humane if it involved sacrificing or eating animals. However, if this isn't an event related to faith and culture, and it's just a bunch of people eating dogs for the fun of it, it should be outlawed.
@greatkingfrabk Methods of euthanesia aren't acceptable for human consumption. Thus why we don't put down animals via euthanasia then eat them. Also, that method is by far the most expensive. You're paying to put down an animal that now cannot be consumed.
I get the cause however.... Aren't there like 10 million cows killed a day? Chickens fish whatever for food? People need food I guess, I know we view dogs cats above other animals due to companionship but ya know there's millions of animals killed every day everywhere.
Oops sent to fast, no I am not a mod and never wanted to be one and the op is a good friend and clanny of mine and sure agrees with my statement. You are neither funny nor clever. Just another punk is all I see. Have some class and stop trying to make light of a serious conversation. Like I said take your issue with me to newsfeed or pm, either is fine by me.
I want to put to record that I'm against the torture of animals. But I'm also not for ppl outside the indigenous culture telling other cultures that they know better. In the same way, I don't think it's right for males to tell females how to live their lives or one race to dictate other races on how to act in society. I'm for ppl talking to those who take part in this festival and to have a dialogue without condescension and attempt to see it from their perspective and understand why they think doing this is ok. From there have ongoing conversations in the hopes to get them to see things from your perspective.
I get what ur saying op... Ive seen some of this torture b4 and wasnt to happy about it... I dont care if u eat dog or cat. I think Ive even tried it b4 and not knowing. Just shoot it and get it over with. But by standing in the streets and beating them with a hammer and laughing about it just doesnt seem right. I did sign it though...
I filled out the petition but closed the screen. If dogs are over populating the country than what other way would there be to dispose of them. At least they are consuming them as a resource.
Support. I agree wholeheartedly that the issue here is not to do with what someone eats, but the methods used to raise, aquire and prepare said animal for consuption. Yes this should be across the board. However this event is happening soon and is a prime example of the wanton cruelty that should be outlawed, along with other issues such as battery hens/pigs/dairy and live export of livestock. There can be many foods other people may deem unfit to eat, or delicious, but that should have no bearing on how we as humans treat these animals unless in the most dire of circumstances. (I.e, you're starving, lost in the bush, and have to resort to a less than humane way to catch and kill an animal, fine, survival of the fittest.) At the end of the day, why not take the time to maybe google this event... you don't even have to read, if that will tax you to much. Just flick down google images and tell me that it doesnt bother you at all....
Every culture is different. The basic thing behind this is that animals ARE meat. Just because we eat cow in the form of billions of yummy yummy yummy cheeseburgers, is India signing a petition to stop us killing and eating them? What about your beloved bacon and egg muffin from McDonalds?! Jews and Muslims don't eat bacon. Maybe they should sign a petition too to stop us Westerners killing and eating bacon. There will always be the challenged among every culture that has creative ways of getting their meat but to me, meat is meat. Do what you want.
Oh so this is why. Well then. Now I have a legitimate reason not to support this. They're solving overpopulation and feeding their people. Its a great idea.
You could invade them of course. I signed the petition queen. Calling something traditional is a poor excuse to condone cruelty. Some cultures traditionally had human sacrifices, we gonna condone that? They are killing for fun, not because they are starving and need the food., With that in mind, I'd say it's time for these people to grow up and join the civilized world.
Lol and this civilised world has killed how many of our own? How many school massacres have occurred recently? This civilised world is no better. It sucks
@purgatory Sorry dude. Not American. No school shootings in my country. Anyway, the idea that acts of cruelty must be tolerated cause they occurred in a different culture is a load of bs. The Puritans burned women accused of witchcraft. Shall we condone it cause wasn't our culture. 11 year old girls in Yemen are regularly married off to 50 year old men who already have 3 wives. Shall we condone it cause they see it as traditional? Muslin countries in Africa regularly mutate the private parts of young women-" female circumcision" they call it. Is this okay cause it doesn't take place in your country? A dude in Colorado carried an assault ride into a Colorado movie theatre. Is this okay cause of Americans gun culture? No, injustice is injustice , no matter what culture it occurs in. Tradition arguments for cruelty are a load of crap.
