@playernumber, your going through this thread thinking that the immature ones would be the ones getting the mod positions, when ata would pick from the applicants or people backing someone to be a mod and pick those they think to be the more mature and reasonable ones. Stuff like that won't happen when the mod they pick knows the tou
OP, I have zero support for your idea. I agree that there are mature minors and immature adults, and that there are times when it appears there are no mods online. (I would say that usually there are, we may be on different servers, or not monitoring WC/forums at that point). I believe the main reason behind having a minimum age for moderating is to protect the individuals. As moderators we deal with the darker side of the kawmunity, with predators, players harassing other players and along with simply the management of bypasses-none of these things can be deemed as being suitable for a minor to be placed at the forefront of. Ata has a moral, if not legal responsibility to protect minors, and if it were to appoint a minor to handle such things it is hardly showing due care or diligence to protecting those individuals. If also like to clarify that the powers you propose that your JMods would have are no different to those of current mods, as previously stated, we don't make decisions about lengths of silences or bans- we simply make a decision on whether the rules have been broken or not. To the idea I saw about anonymous mods-this is an idea I've previously discussed with members of support staff, however, there are flaws to the idea-mostly around nuisance spamming and such. I'd suggest that if players see that a player is making a great contribution to the game, then let people know-this is pretty much why the VK was created! iphi
"silent mods" have existed through normal players having alts previously (protect their main from getting hit ect) although in all cases the user ends up coming out for the glory and praise that they seek from the community
I've seen what grownup moderators did when they went on "rage mode". I'm scared to think what a teenager will do in "rage mode". No support.
Maybe if we were desperate for mods, this idea would be viable. However, or every moderator spot thst comes open, there are litterally hundreds of applicants thst want to fill it. We have an over abundance of candidates, so, with that in mind, why go and waste a spot on a kid? Remember, kids have things like 1. School 2. Bed times And 3. Maturity issues I prefer adult moderstors. My personal facorite candidates are parents, as they are already used to being authority figures, I get that kids want to moderate, because kids want to do lots of things adults do. This is a good thing, mand I won't lie, doing things like driving, drinking beer (not while driving) and modding are all very fun. Being an adult is great. Just wait your thurn, and she you're the correct age, good things will become availabke to you
Honestly though... Well thought idea BP. But as a parent, I have no support for your suggestion. Blocking and reporting seems easy enough, but the sick minded people that are abundant throughout the interwebz are very smart and extremely well versed in fooling the unsuspecting. I have seen adult moderators resign due to personal infiltrations of their personal life in this game and a few others. It's scary, and not something I would want my 14 year old subjected to. Sorry. But the world is too messed up. I will allow my children 18 years before they have to deal with it.
Regardless of anyone's support or no support for this idea, ATA are not allowed to implement anything like this because Apple have a requirement that all employees of a company be over 18. Having said that I also concur with Willy's assessment. It isn't a good idea either in the life of the child or potentially for the game/devs.
Support but I still think ata should make them Jmod not the community that's how trolls and corruptive mods come from
This idea is only going to be supported by those under 18 who are desperate for mod. Back when I first started in 2011 I thought it was annoying how mods had to be over 18 but since then I have been staff for other large communities (Much larger than this) and I have to admit that although younger people can have what it takes to do the job to a large extent, the job will get to them much easier than an older more mature person. As willy so rightly said mods are targets because of their role and it is a sad but painful truth people need to understand. Younger players also have school and their studies which are far more important than being a moderator on a game.
How is school more important than an adult fulfilling work, activity, parenting, being a productive member of society, ect. You can't compare the roles of adults and children lol, both are allowed to spend as much time as they like on kaw. Oh, and in 2011 there were no age restrictions on moderators :$
