Averaged over all land and ocean surfaces, temperatures warmed roughly 1.53°F (0.85ºC) from 1880 to 2012, according to the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change From UCAR
Most climate scientists agree that man-made emissions are causing either global warming or global "weirding". Personally I believe that they are correct. We are in an interglacial period within in an ice age. So some additional carbon dioxide is IMO a good thing. But I think that we've blown way past that. But, we (humanity) aren't going to change our behavior. We aren't going to stop burning fossil fuels. Our entire modern society is based on combustion. The potential threat of global warming isn't going to make humanity stop producing electricity. We won't stop until the problems related to global warming are so bad that they affect billions of people. Who knows what the world will look like then. Just my two cents. ️
One man said it best: "You only live once, you might as well die now." -Eminem "I tried suicide once and I'll try it again. That's why I write songs where I die at the end."
If you want to see a good climate skeptic check out 1000Folly on YouTube. If you can call that good. They actually do make some good points. However, climate science is probably the most studied of all the sciences. It most likely uses up the most money as well. Which helps create skeptics. Politics, money, resources. Of course there is opposition. You don't need to make a smart comment back. I general go with the majority of scientist. Although there is some issues with data sharing. Or lack of. Failed models. More than one. It all adds up over time. I've found good debate on UK forums, and news sites. Don't underestimate the information available in comment sections. Those guys don't use links because they all know what they are talking about generally. At least the terminology. Another issue is people arguing who are not scientist. It leaves the door open for skeptics. When people who don't truly know start debating. It hurts. Some even say it better not to have open discussions for laymen. Which I tend to agree with. It's time to take politics out of the topic. Areas high fraking give lots of support to eviromentalist. The Gulf area, with the BP oil spill. People are getting sick. They need and offer support. Regardless of political affiliation. Pretty much any place fossil fuels ruin people's lively hoods and health. Nothing like a nice glass of flammable water to change your perspective.
Besides just look at what it's called. Climate Change. Well duh. The climate changes with pollution or not. So the message is kinda dumbed down so much, it makes it easy for people to be skeptics. So it's a dumb name. Really is what you are doing is environmentalism/conservatism of the environment. A lot of businesses logistical managers are into it. They see a need to conserve. It will also raise prices, and put a effect on the supply and demand. They will exploit that. Again that's why a lot of scientist prefer we don't argue for them, but people do anyway. I can't stress that enough. It does more harm than good. The reason being you guys make it political and use it for political gains. All affiliations. Some stuff they do is so specialized, it's impossible for you to know everything. You can pretend to know, but you don't. This topic spans a broad range of sciences. It's not just reading the temps. Or sea level raises. Thats just the way it is.
One more thing for you guys. If you are relying on the internet for all your information. You aren't really in the loop. It's so easy to manipulate information online. It may be okay for you now, but remember, one day you will be on the other side of the youth. The other side of change. You will be struggling for suppressed information. Lack of information. Who knows what the kids of today will want tomorrow. It could be totally against what you want now. So showing some consideration for others goes along way. Picking sure win debates, while marginalizing others isn't really wise. Yes. I probably care more than the political debaters about this issue. Figuratively, you are playing basketball with midgets with no arms. While you, your self are standing 7' tall. Some scientist who no longer are being paid, do have concerns with the alarmism. So basically act like you know. No matter what side you are on, it's beneficial for everyone to be cautious. Opposition is a good thing. Say it, believe it, live it.
Conservation is always good so is protecting what we do have you cut a tree down plant a new one Life is about choices and right from wrong Is it wrong for people to use the uninformed for political and personal gains
Problem is that its an average. We are getting more extreme weather conditions every year, just look at the number of hurricanes, or is that just a coincidence? People like you are the reason its never going to stop. You think you are above it all and don't want to face the facts.
Every data you see is going to be a average More hurricanes every year lol where I know of 3 last year and none so far this year and we are well over a month in to hurricane season so what you are saying is past hurricanes are showing you future events that's where your data will be wrong weather men can not accurately predict the weather. Yay it didn't rain yesterday but there was a 60-70-80 percent rain
Tha don Europe has had massive flooding over the last two years last winter huge areas of the southern Britain flooded for weeks, the Balkans china , Asia had suffered severe floods the typhoon last month smashed the South Pacific Australia and parts of NZ the typhoon which slammed the Philippines and that's just the stuff I can remember off the top of my head. The weather is getting weirded more unstable more extreme. The best understood reason for this is climatic changes bought about by humanities actions on a global scale . The options are the scientists are right and we need to make some adjustments to the life style and consumption of resources we all use , that slows the worst effects and allows humanity to prosper that's the best case the worst is they are right and we ignore the advice till it's way too late and we can't prevent the loss of large areas of land the deaths of mush wildlife and millions of people .
Over the last two years there was a little known climate affect called El Niño that was in place till this year which caused warm water to flow further north in the oceans now that affect is no longer present so your point would be Since 1998 we have been in a drought and now we are above the water precipitation line. Who's to say this is not all a natural event that the earth does every so many thousands of years. Also isn't Britain kinda a wet land in general like parts California is a desert I can only speak on how the weather out side is when I go out side that's the most accurate weather testing we can do
I agree that we have greater food production capability, however arable land is often also the most comfortable climate and relatively flat land...hence attractive for housing development. I dont witness a majority of people choosing to live in harsh climates and steep terrain...hence the food production will be limited by our own choices.
Tha don El Niño isn't a little known event it's happened a few other times recently I remember letterman making jokes about it 20yrs ago nor does that limited event explain the years of changing weather that has been seen and recorded .
El Niño happened when 1990 or 1994 and lasted till what 2012-13. Water controls the weather we see on land
El Niño and La Niña occur over time and yes the movements of the oceans and the currents are the powerhouse for the planets weather. It's the raising of ocean temps which has led to increased ice loss in the polar regions more unpredictable weather patterns and the more extreme weather we have had recently.
Tha Don: El Niño and La Niña are not little known weather phenomenons. They are well studied and well understood. We are entering a weak El Niño period now. They don't last for decades like you indicated. If you're going to talk about this stuff you should at least have a basic understanding of what you're saying. Versus just spouting BS and expecting the rest of us to believe it.
