Junk food like MacDonalds isn't unhealthy because of the ingredients, is because of all the preservatives they put into a typical burger. They have so much in a burger was left for a year and it was still deemed edible.
ok so maybe not more toxic than mercury which is deadly under a gram (pout) some of those ingrediants require more than a single gram to become fatal (sigh) but nice dodge by the way (grin) wanna go back to how you were tellin us all about how natural anf safe all the ingrediants are (giggle)
lol If something is found to be toxic and deadly to humans in whatever we consume then yes govt. should ban it from what we eat. In general before you commented posts were referring (in my perception) to sugar and whatnot in "natural" forms not to the stuff you mentioned which admittedly I have no idea what they are. So my bad. lol ...most previous posts to your 1st one referred to eating habits being controlled or influenced by govt. more then what ingredients would be govt. regulated. But just from the sounds of the crap doesn't sound like we should be consuming it
the general idea is ...if the govt. starts telling me how much bacon I can and can not eat everyday I'm afraid I'll have to move.
Wow I didn't Know fifteen year olds had such dark thoughts. No worries when I'm president, I will change that. WoIfie: McDonald's chicken was plastic. They had to change it when people started complaining
I agree. That makes me mad. I don't see why the government would want to put family farms out of bussiness. If they are producing, quality food for us. I would rather see them put out a Burger King out of bussnies This shows that the government needs to focus on the important stuff.
You already think food is as poisonous as mercury, (moron) a preservative isn't a ingredient, it's a chemical used to kill off the bugs and insects from eating your food before you do.
Btw guys food is already taxed, about 15% mark is the tax on food, everything you by is taxed. Why you think shops put prices up? Most the time It's cos the government puts a higher tax on a item, it's done so company can maintain the profit.
Yep. I was arguing with these kids, for almost half an hour. Because they thought foods can't be taxed lol
Economists generally agree that government intervention, including taxation, is justified when the market fails to provide the optimum amount of a good for society’s well-being,. This includes a failure to appreciate the true association between diet and disease, time inconsistency (preference for short-term gratification over long-term well-being), and not bearing the full health and social costs of consumption.
Just make healthy food a little less expensive. However cost is not the problem. (Unless you want that organic crap that is fake). You can get healthy food at a low price.
I eat healthy food at very low price. All prices in USD Breakfast (9am) 1 Isalean Shake = $3 3/4 bowl of Basmati White Rice = $0.20 1 Organic Apple = $0.10 (in season practically free) Lunch 1 (11.30am) 6-8oz of Tilapia = $1 2 oz Spinach = $0.50 6 cherry tomatoes = $0.10 3/4 bowl Basmati Rice = $0.20 15 Raw Almonds = $0.10 Lunch 2 (2.30pm) 1 Isalean Shake = $3 3/4 Bowl of Basmati Rice = $0.20 15 Almonds = $0.10 Dinner (5pm) 6-8 oz Salmon = $1.50 3/4 bowl Brown Rice = $0.30 3oz Asparagus = $0.15 15 Raw Almonds = $0.10 30-mins before bed 30 Raw Almonds = $0.20 This is a super cheap meal plan. I do 45-mins on TRX in the morning. Pre-workout 30-mins before exercise 1/2 E Shot ($2.50) Post Exercise Within 5-mins, 1 scoop CFL ($0.50) 1 scoop Ionix ($1) Within 30-mins, 1 scoop IsaPRO (=$1) Enjoy!
Live and let live. Nobody becomes obese from occasional consumption of junk food. The issue isn't the food but the compulsion some have to overeat.
This is probably the main problem. The quantity of the food (not necessarily the quality). Just read up how many calories, fat, carbohydrates, salt,... a normal human should eat and have a look at how much you do eat. There lies the main cause of overweight. Paired with a lack of exercise... One difference between the fast food industry in the US and elsewhere is noticeable though. Prices are cheap and sizes are huge while in Europe for example, fast food isn't cheap at all and doesn't come at all you can eat monster sizes either. Fast food is just eaten there because of its convenience, less for its price. Exercise, exercise... and no, don't reward yourself with more food because you just went out for a run. Your body will be your ultimate reward! I don't think that any amount of taxes will get people to burn more calories than they consume. This can only come through education, in my opinion.
Yes it can and does. Ever hear of tobacco? The government has very effectively used disincentive taxation to reduce the strain that tobacco consumption has on the US economy. OP has some great points. Agree fully with your assessment of public goods and hidden costs. The market in its current state is inefficient. Farm subsidies benefit mostly large food suppliers and restaurant chains, namely McDonalds, at the cost of American's health and the taxpayer dollars that go into supporting the healthcare system. Now getting any serious legislation past food lobbies is an entirely different story.
It's a good thing his suggestion was to TAX bad food and subsidize healthy food then. Also how can you separate tax from price when final cost paid by consumer = price(1+Tax Rate)?
Tax rate is a completely separate variable. It's an added cost applied to fund the government. Price itself is independent. Tax rate is dependent. Price is it's own thing. Total cost is price plus tax
