Well, yes, but it's pretty much impossible to have a REAL democracy. There are some good examples, I wouldn't use the USA as one, it's an Oligarchy more than anything. The U.K. Is ran by university graduates that have never lived a real honest day in their lives, Germany is still shackled by the ghosts of its past. @whoever said the White House has got the message, if you REALLY think that, then you Sir, are an idiot. Politicians are politicians, the rare (extremely) precious ones get swamped up in the system and never actually get anywhere, leaving the public of all democratic countries to vote in people they can pick faults at, without really having a choice. Elections are generally favoured towards a candidate in some way or another (switching boundary lines etc). There ARE NO free countries anymore.
