DISCUSSION: Prison Conditions in Norway

  1. Sounds like some sort of sick, inhumane torture.

  2. Kill him.

    Slow, painful death.

    'Murica.

  3. In the USA you go to jail for having some weed on you and get thrown in the pit of hell in the middle of some stupid war you want no part of and come out a hardened criminal. Then guess what, back to jail eventually. Prison for profit system working wonders for those making the millions off it. No so much for those who wanted to get a little high.

  4. lol Cyn, you got locked up for some weed? ...that sucks 

  5. Disgusting, this is why I don't have one. Very inhumane!

  6. Can you piss off with your top hat, I've seen you post that bloody emoji every post for 2 months and I'm becoming sociopathic.

  7. Since when did forumers become news reporters?

  8. You've been just a bubbling beacon of sunshine and wisdom lately, Kasama.

  9. I agree with that he should have got more contact with others. But I would say that it's more humane to lock him up in prison than killing him. With the prison cell he has now, he can study, make his own food, watch TV, read newspapers, and do normal things.

As I said, every person in the world should have the same humane rights. No matter of what they've done.

I agree, that may not be so fun for the victims. But we can't include personal feelings when we should decide a punishment. That's just how this system is, and I'm sure that every system will always have a downside to it.

  10. For me, killing is killing, and it's always wrong. No matter if it was in "the name of justice" or not. Yes, you remove the person who did something bad, but the person who killed the criminal, is now a person that has done something bad. It's always wrong to take another person's life.

  11. I don't think he should see anyone. Why does he deserve that, do his victims families get to see them again? No. They do not.

In sorry but you're wrong chocolate, once you commit an act so inhumane as he did, you become less than human, less than animal and deserving of no ones time or energy, THAT is why he should of died.

Human rights, lol. What are human rights, why do we have them? Who decides them? Why do we need them?

  12. Why do you think its always wrong? & why do you think those who ignore the rights of others should have rights?

  13. After reading one of your comments chocolate I'd like to know if you think it's wrong when police are forced to shoot to kill. Typically that is done to keep people safe.

  14. That's the differnce. Here in Europe (I don't think any European contry has death penality) we focus on rehabilitation over punishment. We don't think it helps to punish the criminal. There's is no proof that death penalty and punishment decrease crime. I think it's important to focus on rehabilitating the criminal, and removing the social aspect won't do that. Here is what is written in an article (contains 10 good reasons for not having death penality) I found:

"The death penalty is brutal on society. The brutalization effect suggests that when violence is condoned via the death penalty, more violence occurs. Homicide rates tend to increase around the time of executions, due to legitimation, desensitization, and imitation. The death penalty makes society more dangerous by further increasing violence through the brutalization effect."

You do not become less human for doing an inhumane action. Every human has the same value, no matter of what he/she has done. You should not lose your human rights becuase you've done an inhumane action.

As for what human rights are and why we need them, this document might give you more insight! :)

  15. If the police is forced to shoot, to avoid the criminal from doing a much worse action, I agree with that they should. But when you don't have to shoot/kill, like in this case, it shouldn't be done.

  16. That's a fair reason to stand for no death penalty if you believe it can't help but while there maybe no proof to suggest the death penalty helps reduce crime, there is proof that some rehabilitated criminals commit more crimes once they're out.

Also yeah this is likely where we differ the most, i only see negative value in people who don't respect the rights of others, if you couldn't be trusted not to kill 77 people in the first place then you're only as valuable as a bullet in the head of the victims.

  17. And you believe that he can be rehabilitated do you chocolate? REALLY?

That man cannot be trusted to be released from prison. Thinking that someone like him could possibly integrate into society is delusional at best, stupid at worst, I never took you for either of those chocolate.

    I'm European btw.

  18. @Rio I'm not sure Chocolate is saying he definitely CAN be rehabilitated but their system focuses on giving people the chance too first over punishment. Sorry if I'm incorrect, Chocolate, just how I read your comments.

Btw, those cells are incredibly well equipped for a prison! But if the purpose in Norway is rehabilitation over punishment I can understand why they are set up as the way they are. In saying that, I believe some crimes are so severe that the offenders should not get such luxuries.

For those who are saying killing in the name of justice is different and okay as you are ridding the bad from the world, consider this: If I decided to go around and kill every person released from prison who had committed a serious crime in the name of justice, is that okay? I'm ridding the evil from the world, aren't I? Or does that only apply to 'qualified' individuals employed by a prison to deliver a lethal injection?

I disagree with the dealh penalty. I don't believe 'they killed this person so I can kill them' is justification enough to take a human life. I do believe people commit some REALLY horrific crimes. Do they deserve to live after what they've done? Probably not. But I'd rather have them rot in a prison cell for the rest of their life with minimal human contact and not see the light of day. Let them live with their own thoughts for 30+ years or however long till they die. Let them suffer the way their victims and their victims family did. Take away their life as they did others and let them suffer in a tiny cell...I don't think they suffer once they're dead. In fact, I don't think they would care at all if they died.

  19. Ok Chocolate! You convinced me. If someone will kill my mum I'll be like "Rehabilitate this guy!!!".

  20. The guy is a murder that shown no remorse he said he would do it again. He doesn't deserve that sort of treatment.
