deflate gate. American grid iron talk

  1. oh a poster on the kaw forums said that a few colts balls were under inflated? well that changes everything. except that...why hasn't the NFL said anything about it?

and you are a bit off. each team supplies 12 balls. the home team supplies and additional 12 back up balls. none of the 12 back up balls were underinflated, despite the fact that they would have been kept in the same "enviroment". (btw all this talk about it being a natural phenomenon is not backed up by facts or science)

the balls were under inflated. they didn't lose (that much) psi due to cold weather. idk if you know this, but football has been played in cold weather before. every year. since forever.

the NFL has said that the balls were under inflated. you are living in denial. sorry.

  2. I believe you are mistaken, and I dont care to argue.

I never denied they were under inflated. Lol.

  3. Moose let me point out that the patriots scored 11 more points the second half of the game then they did in the first half. The only time the Colts scored was during the first half of the game. If anything the deflated balls led to the Colts being a better team. Even if you take out all the points scored by the patriots during the first half of the game you still get a score of 28-7. I ask you this. In what way was the deflated balls helpful to the patriots?

  4. but the temperature WASN'T 20 degrees that day. it was in the low 50's/upper 40's.

  5. this argument is KILLING me inside. the patriots could not have KNOWN that the colts were going to have an off day. they were assuming a tough match. it doesn't matter that they didn't NEED to cheat to win. that doesn't change the fact that they cheated AGAIN.

  6. NPR just threw the pats under the bus.

They said 11 of the 12 pat balls were under inflated by over 2 psi.

The did a test with several top college quarterbacks and receivers, asking them to handle regulation balls and under inflated balls.

The conclusion was that under inflating your ball by 2 psi makes it very easy to catch and very easy to throw.

In other words...... Its a definate advantage.

    Thanks NPR!

  7. And wheres your proof that the Patriots did it intentionally. All evidence says that didnt. Only butt hurt fans of the NFL, and news casters say they cheated and are ******** on them. Love to hate the Pats.

  8. Why do you call people who reference the patriots cheating as "butthurt"?

As NPR stated, 11 of the 12 patriot balls were deflated

As word waster stated, the temperature at Gillette stadium wasn't 20 degrees, but was around 40" meaning the temperature swing wasn't enough to spontaneously deflate the patriots balls.

This isn't butt hurt. Its out rage at cheating.

  9. wow bob. 11 out of 12 balls? all under inflated by the same amount? that doesn't just "happen". someone deflated those balls. the only people with access to them were patriot employees.

all the evidence points to it being a deliberate action. if you weren't blinded by loyalty, you would see it as clearly as everyone else.

  10. Btw, its a strange day when I find my self listening to npr and agreeing with the host lol

  11. That doesnt just 'happen'? Are you kidding? Do you have no knowledge of physics and pressure? Ball goes in a warm environment for hours at one pressure. Goes outside in a cold environment that could be a different atmospheric pressure. Result: ball loses air pressure.

  12. Is there any definite proof that anyone on the Pats actually deflated the balls? Could someone from the colts or a rouge deflate the balls? Could this be the action of one man trying to screw over the Pats?

Whoever did it is stupid or just very sloppy. Why deflate 11? Why not just one? MAYBE two?

  13. All the pats balls save one deflate, which hasn't ever been a problem in places like Green Bay where the packers play in sub zero temps.

Also, almost all of the colts balls stayed at regulation pressure.

Gee. All the pats balls deflate and their oppositions balls are just fine, and yet, the pats fans cry for evidence.

You'd have all been wonderful jurors on the O J Simpson trial

  14. And why only 11 of the 12? Or why wasn't any of the 12 backup ones deflated?

  15. Deflated footballs are easier to catch, but that also helps the defense. It is easier for defensive backs and linebackers to get picks. Also, how did the deflated footballs help LeGarrette Blount score 3 touchdowns?

  16. The environment the packers keep their balls before they are taken out to the field are different than the pats, wouldnt you think? Pressure in the ball room, temperature? Those play affect.

  17. here's some science from our good friends over at the christian science moniter:

"Amontons's Law states that the pressure of a gas of fixed mass and fixed volume is directly proportional to the gas's absolute temperature, or, to put it mathematically:

    P1 / T1 = P2 / T2

Let's assume that the balls were initially inflated to the minimum regulation pressure, 12.5 psi with 70-degree air. When the air inside the ball falls to 48 degrees, what pressure is it at? The formula for that would be:

    P2 = (P1 / T1 ) × T2

Amontons's Law deals with absolute pressure, not gauge pressure. To get that, we'll need to add the atmospheric pressure of 14.7 psi to the initial gauge pressure of 12.5 psi. After doing that and then converting our freedom-loving units of pounds per square inch and degrees Fahrenheit into their equivalent socialist units of kilopascals and degrees Kelvin, we get:

    P2 = (187.5 kpa / 294 K) × 282 K.

The resulting absolute pressure is 179.9 kilopascals, or, in American, 26 psi. Subtract one Earth atmosphere's worth of pressure, and you wind up with 11.3 psi.

In other words, the temperature difference accounts for, at most, 1.2 psi. For 70 degree air in a football to drop 2 pounds per square inch, it would have to cool to at least 30 degrees. Or perhaps the temperature in the room where they filled the balls was 88 degrees."

oh...well maybe they filled up the balls in a room heated to 88degrees? (seems a bit strange, but not impossible) then why was the twelfth ball not underinflated? why were the 12 back up balls not under inflated? (remember that they were also provided and inflated by the patriots)

oh and all of that assumes that the balls were at the MINIMUM allowed inflation when they were inspected.

  18. yeah. and when a member of the colts defense got one of those easy picks, he was immediately aware that something was wrong with the ball. that is how this whole thing was discovered.

  19. How did the deflated balls help Blount score 3 TDs though?

  20. My problem with this thread is watching pats fans twist in pretzels to WILLFULLY remain ignorant.

Brady lied to you. You can accept the lie because its fun to do so, but don't be shocked when the rest if the nation, mand now NPR don't go along with it.
