Cyber Bullying Awareness

  1. Omg you mean that's an option??? Get out of town.. You're talking that crazy talk..

  2. Well I think words are the most powerful thing in the world. Words start wars and end them. So just be careful how you use them.

  3. When cyber bullying was first created I think they meant, real life people bullying you over the interwebz and it then affecting your real life relationships. Not, some random kid trolling you and getting butthurt. Just sayin.

  4. (In my best lady from south park voice)WONT SOMEBODY PLEASE THINK ABOUT THE CHILDREN!!!!!

All everyone who has this likeminded theory does is enable people to be little soft hearted pansies who need their tushes patted and their nose wiped. This world is tougher than ever already, yet we (especially Americans) seem to be getting weaker than ever.

Just a generation ago even, we were still able to grow up with a little hazing and giving each other a hard time about things considered out of the "social norm". It made us stronger just as it did for many generations before us. Now you can't even look cross eyed at someone without them getting offended or someone threatening to sue or 'tell on you'.

I for one am completely against this coddling of overly sensitive individuals because their feelings got hurt. It's become the norm to accept weakness as "emotional" and blame every one else for every little thing in your life that is negative or wrong. It will be our downfall if it continues and I honestly see it getting worse than it already is.

I like Immitation's view on things. He understands completely. As do many on here. But I suppose like anything there are two sides.

I would help anyone who felt their life was truly in danger or felt threatened by an individual both cyber or direct. But I will never agree that Spiteful WORDS from a big meanie head will ever be more than someone just being mean. And if you allow WORDS to have that much affect on you then it's YOUR fault not the meanies. Everyone's a victim these days......pathetic.

And for the record ruggy, the STRONG are affected all right, in a positive way! We build off the negative and become stronger for it. We embrace those who would seek to knock us down and stand up in their face and smile. Don't think for one second no one can have that attitude, we are what we are, and it's those who rise above adversity that deserve to keep going. Truth hurts. Get over it

Also Here's an insight for you..(something can only be insulting if it is derogatory or untrue, so if being weak is acceptable than why do you call it insulting them?)

  5. There's a difference between bullying and being mean. You're right that some people can come out on top and use the negative comments to stand up and prove the other person wrong. But when someone wants to take their own life because of the bullying - it's not just some hazing comments.

  6. We should teach children and others to be strong and resilient. To learn how to cope with adversity. We should teach others to stand up for themselves. But that doesn't mean we should be saying people are weak and whatever else. Cyber bullying is an issue at the moment - so lets work on not making it an issue by helping people be more resilient and to cope and get through their hardships. And to teach others that there's no need to harass people online.

  7. How do you think people develop resilience?

  8. Turning a blind eye and saying cyber bullying isn't real isn't teaching them resilience.

  9. Funny thing is I already went on about teaching our kids and others to stand for themselves and how to handle words and hate thrown at them. But that just got turned down as "not everyone has that opportunity" by others with your own stance on it.

The intent of this thread is all good and dandy as long as we don't have an escalation of negative feedback thrown at every positive solution as well:).

Edit:changed intend to intent. Would have bothered me lol

  10. It's true that we need to learn to be resilient and to cope in lots of different situations. We need to adapt. But it's also true that not everyone can go up to their parent or a family member or a teacher etc. to get help and to over come it. If we can raise more awareness about it then maybe victims of cyber bullying will know they can get through it and they can find someone to reach out too. Lets not kick people while they are down but provide them with the access to tools for dealing with these problems. But we need to teach people as well that they can't just verbally abuse others online also. It goes both ways.

  11. This

  12. Agreed....As with anything that's a problem:)

There will always be those who are a part of it and those who are affected by it, and then those who promote it as awareness with pretty obvious solutions.

To me if you are passionate about a topic like this and want to really have an impact then I think the solution needs to be smaller. Localize it. Challenge families to be proactive inside their own circles, challenge schools to be more outspoken and and accepting of it, challenge the small groups and there will be a profound impact on the large picture.

Just do me the favor of having enough pure motive to not just taking a moral high ground on a thread like this without having the conviction to do something out there! Anyone can speak compassionately when they come across the opportunity. But it's all in vein of they don't carry that proactive attitude outside of the forum or article

  13.
  14. If you're referring to my comment, it wasn't about solutions to help the issue like yours. It was towards the people who are treating children, affected by bullying, like those who became successful from it. As though they all can handle it the same way.

  15. I know there are many schools from where I'm from that have bullying programs probably at least once a year. We need to work together as community (not KaW community lol, our RL ones). But raising awareness here doesn't hurt either.

We're all built in different ways as Killzone says. We need to work to work on helping all sorts of people.

  16. Bringing awareness about cyberbullying aims to warn your children and family about that there are some psychos over the internet.

  17. It isn't just about randoms you meet online, Frozen. Cyber bullying is often someone the victim knows personally e.g. someone at their school.

  18. True thing crazy, the one knows more is the one who can hurt more

  19. How do you think we got here smartass, everything up to this point was natural selection. And it's not a selection process where humans kill of huge amounts of habitats and areas for its own selfish greed.
