that is absolutely not true. the whole thing is nothing but an argument. you think presenting a different point of view is "disrespectful"?
Pastafarianism is satire. If we are going to spend the rest of this thread having one party call it satire, and the other party refusing to call it satire, then this thread will be a waste. I will people to cut and paste the link I'm providing below and review the 17 min video, then comment thoughtfully. Here is the link
I agree with Moose, I would quote his post but... Meh too much scrolling. I will also check that video out.
Prominent physicists, like Michio KaKu believe that there is a god, as that video explains. They may not believe in my god, it your god, but, they do have a theistic view if the universe and believe in "a god" and thus have reached this conclusion through their study of quantum mechanics. Although my video link does not validate any one particular religion over another, it does provide compelling thought for the existence of a god.
I just quoted your post, copied and pasted it into my browser. Doesn't seem it is going to work through forums. They should fix that though, would be great.
i've fought this battle before, i-cheese. its simply a matter of how sensitive the issue is to some people.
Although I'm a Lutheran, I won't tell anyone on this thread to be a Christian. That's way off topic. I will say, however, that when the likes of Michio KaKu, a man grounded in science, along with scores of other scientists, subscribe to the thought that there is indeed a god, it grabs my attention Religions all have problems, and I can certainly respect that. However, religion is mans attempt to connect with god. To poke fun at religion is out of bounds, IMHO as its a way for people to connect with god. Is one religion more valid than another? That is a Topic for a different thread. However, is god real. Quantum mechanics seems to point to him. The religious experiences people have are simply their way if connecting to god. This is why I am tolerant of people's different belief structures and don't mock them, even if their theology differs from mine. How man connects with nature, his family, his friends, and his god are personal matters, and are not there for me to throw rocks at.
I've never quite understood why people think their beliefs, religious or otherwise, have to be respected. I respect your right to believe whatever you want, but I don't have to respect your beliefs themselves. If someone believes that people who worship differently than them deserve to be killed, I don't have to respect that. Same goes if someone believes that women are somehow inferior and therefore subservient to them simply because they're male. What's worthy of respect in those beliefs? It has to be respected because it's their religion? My ass. Not only do I not have to respect them, I don't have to tolerate them either. And I don't.
Respecting people's right to believe what they want is a good thing, so long as those people's beliefs hurt no one. You don't have to respect a persons religion to be a respectful person. This is very true. However, throwing rocks at people's beliefs when they differ from yours or mine is an ass hole thing to do. Conversely, its also an ass hole, thing for people who have religious beliefs to try and force those beliefs onto others. In life, I've known wonderful atheists and wonderful people of many religions. They were all good people, so the real problem here doesn't lie with atheists or religion. The root of the problem lies with ass holes, and those people reside on both sides of the issue.
