*sigh* You make it sound like you're not giving plunder away as long as you have no cash out... WRONG! If your troops are above pin and you're attacked you are still giving plunder to the other side.

 

Funny how people have no idea how wars work in a war game.

Here is a basic war strategy. If your pinned ur not loosing gold even if ally's are bought.

 

It's pretty basic, but it's a very good start.

Ah, here's something you might like, since very few people read past the first page of the beginner FAQ when it wasn't in best of, and less even now. I love who think self pinning = winning. They help me and my group earn more system/real war victories 
