AJ, honestly, with regard to protocol and such...they knew that man was huge - that man knew he was huge. EVERYONE on that sidewalk knew he was getting taken down. No surprise. If he hadn't suffered a heart attack, this would not have made headlines. Had that officer not grabbed around his neck, he would have bucked him off like a horse. Now because "protocol" wasn't followed, the officer should be reprimanded...but the chokehold didn't cause a heart attack. The fat and illogical expenditure of adrenalin caused a heart attack.
Unfortunately the U.S. is anything but colorblind. The common theme is that this is a police vs. poc issue, but I think it's a societal issue. Both black and white cops are more likely to shoot a black person than a white one - as a society we've been unconsciously tuned to believe black males in particular are inherently more dangerous. We can reform police all we want but until we solve the deeper roots we can't completely fix the problem.
Good points. He's a big dude. I just feel that we need to give our officers better tools to take down people who are double their body weight. Even if it was a slap on the wrist, the officer should have gotten something - I'm glad someone peeps see my point on that. On his death: http://bit.ly/1AIdEtU But I digress... The game I bought for Christmas is 14M away from being downloaded
unless your in eminent danger of being murdered or raped (and police have done both) then yes this is what you should do ..I live in a city that has a large population of African Americans and therefore has an equally higher percentage of black cops. This is a true story ..5 months ago I was coming home from work on the subway. I was clipping my fingernails with the standard $1.29 fingernail clippers you buy at CVS. When the subway got to my stop I put the clippers away and started exiting the train. As I exited the train, 7 black cops ran up on me picked me up off the platform and slammed me on the ground with one of them cramming his knee on my neck and head. (Ouchee) and another one drawing a gun "WTF IS THIS ABOUT???" ..."we got a report of a ***** male brandishing a knife on this train". All they found was the nail clippers and a review of the surveillance tape (cameras on all cars) shows all I had was fingernail clippers. ...they actually charged me with possession of a prohibited weapon (lol)??????????? I knew ild win the case in court but when I went 3 weeks later I wasn't on the court docket and there was no recored of me being arrested. I went straight to a lawyer that day (ambulance chaser). He got a hold of a copy of the surveillance tape ...to make an allready long story shorter I'm waiting on a 1/4 million dollar settlement
Well, to train to be an officer, you will be scrutinized by both the public and the police higher-ups. All training is regulated. NYPD is double that...because of the size and amount of criminal activity in such a little area. So, I fully agree the protocol in handling a criminal needs to be followed. But seriously? That man was a walking heart attack. It's the same thing as talking down a drug addict and he/she dies of an overdose. He/she did that to themselves. The police didn't make him 400 pounds...McDonalds did.
I'm still going the title! Another "innocent" teen gunned down. Soooo pointing a gun at anyone let alone a police officer is innocent activity these days? Cmon extreme
I second that how can people let themself get out of shape like that... Anyway the guy was scary huge I wouldn't have gone with the cops approach the guy could of rammed him into a wall. Just taser him and watch him drop like a pencile.
I'd imagine that a taser would have killed him also. Just my opinion, but I think they opted not to use it because of his weight, but he succumbed to a heart attack anyway.
The thread title for this post is perfect. It drew in everyone who thought that X was going to go there. Fantastic thread BTW bro. Can I join your clan?
So to make an example of your story, some idiot civilian reported you with a knife, the cops did their job, and the report was false. So really you should be angry at the idiot who reported you with a knife. But after the fact how it was dropped with no notification is BS. That's admin issues.
You forgot to say that typical nature he is suing for 1/4 of a million for littering on a train, cutting nails ugh something any normal person would do at home. Shiny bright object on a train easily mistaken for a bladed weapon, cops do their job and try to prevent what could possibly be a dangerous criminal ( at the time of intervention they had no way to know its nail clippers ) from doing serious harm. So what do you do about the situation? Cry like a ***** to an ambulance chasing scumbag lawyer demanding compensation for not having the courtesy of cutting your own damn nails at home in your bathroom. And in the process of thanking the police for their well intentioned response where they may have faced death or injury to protect innocent people as a person reported you were armed ( mistaken or otherwise ) your great thanks to them. Is to sue them and increase the tax payers burden pissing on the community you live in that pay those taxes. Yep modern American hero. Grossed out selfish inconsiderate idiot. Just pointing out how ludicrous you are bud. Merry Christmas though. I'm sure your community will love the increase In taxes you put on them
A it's illegal to draw a firearm unless you are using it as a form of self defense and B if you point a gun at law enforcement they legally have the right to shoot you if you don't drop your weapon Yes there were probably better options for the officer instead of shooting him but if they could confirm the gun being pointed at the officer it would be legal
Here are some good ways to not get shot by police since people are having so much trouble with it. 1. Don't rob a store 2. Don't charge a police officer 3. Don't raise any weapon lookalikes 4. Be a citizen not a crook There you guys go. Since obviously you didn't know that.
At least you can appreciate that was finger nails and not toe nails. What's next? Shaving genital hair in that train? And then suing police for taking him as a sexuall obsessed?
At least if he were arrested for being a deviant he would not cost the tax payer so much initially. Gotta hate on the people who make situations worse in real life without doing anything to help improve things for anyone but themselves.
Exactly... That guy is just a low life who saw an opportunity to make some easy money. If would be about justice she could fill a complain and ask for actions to be taken against those cops without asking for a share from tax payers money.
