Im not talking about just dogmatic religious veiws...any belief is hope that good deeds go rewarded...thats the only reason human morality evolved
Its the governments that are giving religion.a bad rep by using it as excuses for their greed...not civilians...and the large majority of us are civilians..just a case of a few spoiling it for the many
Let's try to be clear: religion before the rise of Christianity was rather less violent than anything that followed. I'm not blaming the Abrahamic religions as it were, more just highlighting that religion has existed and does still exist in different forms than what most would equate such a word with. Personally, the only vaguely coherent argument for a religious movement was the extinguishing of the fire of Vesta, because oh, suddenly after that you get damn barbarians all over the eternal city right after you put out its eternal flame. Hmmmmm.
Fear and survival is why humans have always evolved. Religion was created to use fear to create order and submission. George Washington himself along with hundreds of other founding fathers didn't even believe in the Christians God. Most were deists who viewed God as a grand architect who birthed the universe but had no interest in the day to day lives of humanity. Which makes sense as they believed humans weren't the only intelligent life in the universe. Those old racists had a few good ideas
Wow I'm not religious but I have morales lmao. Religion helps those that need to repent because of a lack of morals in my view but hey who am I to judge .I say you do something bad no scapegoat to hide in the form of a excuse like repenting. Instead I acknowledge the wrong I have done own it and learn from 8t to not make same mistake. I don't ask some long dead guy to bear the burden I bear it. After all I was the one who committed the act. Side note anything or anyone that expects you to worship it may be something you wanna steer clear of ,also to create something that has no choice but to sin then expect it to beg for forgiveness for its intended purpose is cruel. And yes according to bible god knows all and knew Satan would corrupt man , so no reason to argue that.
I am a Lutheran, and a rather stuffy conservative one at that, but, I can say that I've known a few atheists in my day, and most of them have been delightful sincere snd generous people. Not having a religion or not believing in a God doesn't by default take away your morality. The morals I have found the atheists I've known are as follows. 1. Do things that improve society. 2. Don't be an asshat. 3. Don't harm others. I think that most people, atheist or not, subscribe to that basic code because most people aren't asshats
The abrahamic religions are the most notable throughout history for wars and mass submission...I think those few systems are the basis of most negative thoughts of religion...but there are so many more belief systems out there which are personal to the individual and not government enforced so to speak...most are peaceful.also
I never said atheists were immoral... I said that belief in a higher power is what evolved morality Most atheists have grandparents or at least greatgrandparents who believed in something...and morality will get passed on even if belief in an invisible entity doesnt
I'm talking about the here and now. Christian fundamentalists in America who want to keep fellow Americans from enjoying the same rights as privileges as they do because their twisted perception of their religion says they should. Which shouldn't matter as the 14th amendment grants equal rights to all citizens of the United States. And the Bible doesn't rule this nation and never will. If you believe your God doesn't want other humans to have the same chance that you get, either adjust your beliefs or stop trying to make everyone live by your standards. America is secular and its constitution absolute.
People are people though... I dont see it to be fit to have an entire thread full of people bashing religions and calling them idiots. But i guess it does go to reflect your life. Pointless.
The government exists to serve the will of the people, and thus the government will by its nature reflect the morality of the people it's representing. (Remember, morality and religion can exist apart from each other) this morality is why America won't legally sanction polygamy or beastialiaty. The gay debate in America strikes me less as a religious thing and more of a thing where America is trying to figure out who it is these days.
Im not a christian...I have my own beliefs of soul...everyone should believe what feels right to them If the bible is true then the christian oppression and twisting of scripture has ruined its origional meaning.....my understanding is that all people have the same chance with god in the end regardless of being.a christian....anyone who says otherwise is lying. A good hearted atheist is better than a bad christian in eyes of god apparently...so specifics arent important only morality
Electric my parents are wolves and so are grandparents I was raised in the woods. I found this phone in the leaves and clicked on the cool chick with armor and learned to read write argue ect on kaw. First human contact was on this game ..... ever lmao wait that sounds about as believable as most religious texts I've read. OK so religious beliefs brings morales hmmm like Sodom and gomar. Maybe like the god influenced flood that mass genocided planet including innocent animals. Keep in mind the flood story extended past Christianity to most religion. Also I think Noah's son raping him. Job used as a amusement while life was put through living hell over a bet. I can go on if need. Perception of environment and past experience would give morales or create a lack of. Now keep in mind we could live the same identical life and make dif decisions based off perception of past experience. And lmao also because humans lack a complete understanding of anything the words we create to describe things are inaccurate because of our lack of complete knowledge.therefore any religion translated through man wether from God or not would be inaccurate because of our lack of complete knowledge . Man I have so much rant left in me but gotta eat
Exactly, and I'll add that it has done way more good than bad overall. I believe it's purpose was to bring people together in a truly dark time period. No one had any direction or "code" to live peacefully by. Religion gives people hope and a united cause rather than total and absolute disorder and lawlessness. It's purpose has grown and served pretty well considering it has united BILLIONS for a cause greater than themselves. Even tho millions have died in the name of religion, I believe without it completely, we would be far worse off (if still thriving in any amount of numbers at all). Note. I am not reading the whole thread and kept my eyes on the first page only.
Well damn moose that was an amazing exciting video it opened my eyes to ways I couldn't even perceive of working in quantum physics
I love how it explained everything it completely blew my mind I am definitely going to have to watch more of these videos to further my knowledge on the topic before I give anymore insight
