Alice in Chains' Layne Staley has to be on the male vocals (scream) list. And Layne's and Jerry's harmonies are so wrong yet so perfect! Listen to some of their classics like 'Man in the Box', 'Would?' or 'Sludge Factory'
Uhhh,if you're speaking of Janis,as in Janis Joplin...she's at #1 with Big Brother & the Holding Company..also a real shrieker is either of the gals from iwrestledabearonce..check out "Tastes like Kevin Bacon"as an example!
WHOAAAAAHHHHHH!!! Taste it!.. Taste another piece of Kevin Bacon baby.. Tast it! That's how Janis would have sung ..
How about Peter Frampton with the voice on "do you feel like I do" I don't know what it's called or if it's considered an instrument but it sure made the song cool back in the day.
Next up.. Best use of Organ in a Rock song No no.. we're not talking about David Lee Roth or Michael Jackson grabbing his crotch.. In my Evolution of Rock forum thread a while ago, I have mentioned Chopin as a huge influencer to Rock (Due to his fast, short, melodies being caught on as Saloon music in the Wild West and fused into that rebel outlaw sound of Rock).. Well when it comes to Organ in Rock music, there is also another influencer from the classical music.. All the five kickass Songs had their roots in Johann Sebastian Bach (Most probably due to Bach having composed a lot of famous music for the church - such as Mass music and Passions.. and the Organ being one of the main musical instruments in a church) And I wish there were more of it.. As evidenced by these five Rock songs.. 5- Green Onions - Booker T and the M.G's We lost this song forever to Hollywood.. and that's ok.. because this upbeat tune lends itself as perfect music scene for a first date or a bank heist.. Look it up as you may not remember the song by its name. 4- Gimme Some Lovin - The Spencer Davis Group This Organ tune is so bright and uplifting.. unless you play it at a Country Western bar.. As the blues brothers found out.. 3- Light my fire - The Doors There are very few time in Rock where a keyboardist tries to one up the lead guitar for the soul of the song.. I think they reached a great compromise at the end with the superfluous organ riff leading the way and carried off by the guitar on this massive classic from the Doors. 2- Whiter Shade of Pale - Procol Harum I really don't know what this song is about.. or how I should feel about it.. is it a breakup song? Is it a song you listen to at an old bar before they tear it down to build swanky condos? Is this the song you listen to when you realized how far you really are from Build Complete? Whatever it is.. this Bach inspired tune completely takes you on a melodic journey that you don't want to get off of.. 1- Highway Star - Deep Purple Talk about getting inspiration from Bach.. Jon Lord took a Bach-ish tune and like a wizard of heavy metal alchemy, brought out a beast from it. Listen to it again..This Organ riff is a harbinger of doom.. and it helped branch Rock off into the "Heavier" paths.. Thank you Jon Lord.. I hope more rock bands play with their organs.. ️️
Ahhh.. yes.. he used a device called the Talkbox.. basically a tube that you sing into and then it goes into an amp.. Duct tape ftw! And yes.. Peter Frampton takes the cakes for the best use of a talkbox to emulate a hangover speech in a rock song (about a hangover).. ️️
We're actually studying Bach's fugues in music theory right now. Amazing organ writing. I'm actually writing a fugue right now.
Ahhh... Here's Bach's scariest contribution to the countless Halloween nightmares and B horror movies.. Toccata and Fugue in D minor Make us proud Noodle.. may be u can put the KaW angst into your fugue.. (mention me when ur rich and famous️️)
