Nobody except in my tiny little brain? Yet he has been listed as the best current rapper by multiple people on this thread.
Tupac or Eminem. J Cole or Kendrick Lamar. Illmatic. Joey Badass, Joe Budden or Schoolboy Q. Desiigner or Future. Tupac, Biggie, Rakim, Nas or Ice Cube. NWA.
Do any of you youngsters know Grandmaster Flash Curtis Blow The Fat Boys ???????????? Listen to some of the above then come back and say who influenced rap, which groups went "gangsta rap" and give a more informed opinion. Apparently rap started around the 90's for most of you...... Look further back and you will actually find "rap" in Rolling Stones, David Bowie etc. Ppfftttt.......youngsters have no idea
I have looked back further in rap, there are influential rappers but every major rapper has influenced rap. The ones you mention haven't influenced it as much as people like Nas imo. "Name a rapper I ain't influenced" - Nas
Obviously some who came before him weren't influenced by him, but he has influenced every single rapper since he came out. Few that came before him even have half the amount of influence that he does.
The ones that came before him influenced him so you could say that they have had the biggest influence on rap music but we all can have our own opinions.
You could say the likes of Slick Rick and Rakim are more influential because of their influence on Nas, but then again if we were doing it that way then the most influential rapper is the first person to rap.
You could say that but they might of rapped and been terrible but they would of created rap music so I guess they need some sort of credit.
Most Overrated is designer or future? Dosnt the whole concept of being overrated mean you have to be rated high? Those two are nobodies
HISTORY LESSON Hip 'rap' hop as music and culture formed during the 1970s when block parties became increasingly popular in New York City, particularly among African American youth residing in the Bronx. At block parties DJs played percussive breaks of popular songs using two turntables to extend the breaks. Rapping developed as a vocal style in which the artist speaks along with an instrumental or synthesized beat. Notable artists at this time include DJ Kool Herc, Grandmaster Flash and The Furious Five, Fab Five Freddy, Marley Marl, Afrika Bambaataa, Kool Moe Dee, Kurtis Blow, Doug E. Fresh, Whodini, Warp 9, the Fat Boys, and Spoonie Gee. The Sugarhill Gang's 1979 song "Rapper's Delight" is widely regarded to be the first hip hop record to gain widespread popularity in the mainstream. The 1980s marked the diversification of hip hop as the genre developed more complex styles. Prior to the 1980s, hip hop music was largely confined within the United States. However, during the 1980s, it began its spread and became a part of the music scene in dozens of countries. New school hip hop was the second wave of hip hop music, originating in 1983–84 with the early records of Run-D.M.C. and LL Cool J. The Golden age hip hop period was an innovative period between the mid-1980s and the early 1990s. Notable artists from this era include the Juice Crew, Public Enemy, Eric B. & Rakim, Boogie Down Productions and KRS-One, EPMD, Slick Rick, Beastie Boys, Kool G Rap, Big Daddy Kane, Ultramagnetic MCs, De La Soul, and A Tribe Called Quest. Gangsta rap is a subgenre of hip hop that often focuses on the violent lifestyles and impoverished conditions of inner-city youths. Schoolly D, N.W.A, Ice-T, Ice Cube, and the Geto Boys are artists most frequently associated with the founding of gangsta rap. These artists were known for mixing the political and social commentary of political rap with the criminal elements and crime stories found in gangsta rap. In other words, dont say Eminem, Dr Dre etc. was the most influencial.....You have to go to the beginning to find influence. If you want to put someone that wasnt born when rap started you are sadly mistaken. *drops the mic* Peace
You say that NWA is an influence but then say that Dre is not an influence? Also influences don't just stop after the start of something, as the genre evolves more rappers add to it and influence future rappers. Eminem currently does not belong in a conversation of the most influential rappers but in the future he will, his influence can already been seen in multiple modern day artists who have also said he was a big influence, such as J Cole, Joe Budden and Kendrick Lamar. As the years go on Eminem's legacy will influence more rappers than almost anyone else, with a few exceptions such as Nas, NWA, Tupac etc. The same could happen for today's artists such as Kendrick Lamar in the very far away future. Just because an artist didn't rap in the 80's doesn't mean they didn't influence rap.
So you say Dre IS NWA? No he wasnt, he was part of NWA but not the group as a whole. He was only one part, he may have influenced his boys in the group. Influence in genre's of rap, hip hop are what you talk of, Influence as a whole, go back further than the 80's.
He wasn't the group as a whole but if you look at what he has done since NWA there is no doubt he belongs in a discussion of most influential. He was a pioneer of G funk and gave us snoop, he later gave us Eminem, 50 Cent, Kendrick Lamar etc. He has given us the best rappers of every generation since NWA and has helped revolutionise rap time and time again.
"He wasnt the group as a whole" It was said he was part of the group AS a whole. He wasnt THE group or the main one in the group, he was on the same level as the others. Are you one of those know-it-all types that doesnt read things correctly or only sees what makes your point valid? Come on, take some time to read over your submission and get your words set up so as not to fool yourself.
Where did I say he was the main person in the group? How can the guy who had his lyrics written by others be considered the main member? I like how you ignored the rest of the post cause you can't even dispute any of it lmao
