Who has a Flying Dutchman story to tell? Well I do.. I lived for a bit in the South Pacific when I was young.. One time I was on this island called Aitutaki.. It is quite popular now.. It's an absolutely beautiful island with a huge coral lagoon in the middle.. Here's a pic Anyhow.. My friend and his dad took me out for fishing one night.. as you may know with coral islands, the harbour usually is a channel and passes through a coral break before hitting the open ocean.. It was low tide when we left around 2am but the coral break area had strong waves and we were just plowing through that rough part with water spraying high.. It was quarter moon and the boat had lights on but the surrounding is quite dark.. And for a brief moment, through the spray, I thought I saw a dark silhouette of a ship on the starboard.. Not a big one.. Not a sail ship like a tall ship.. Just looked like a small merchant steamer from the old steamer days.. I went to my friends dad who was the skipper and told him there was an old ship trying to get in the harbour and he casually replied that oh they never get in.. And smiled..

Question: Captain Willard's journey in Apocalypse Now took inspirations from this ancient captain. He too fought in some crazy ass war.
