Wow. The hypocrisy. I lost count of the times hes criticized my spelling yet he continuously posts in ma threads
All threads have a death sentence at some point, wether they are locked or not, go n look yourself on how far back you can look in active topics. But best off topics sticky threads remain forever.
de·rail /dēˈrāl/ verb cause (a train or trolley car) to leave its tracks accidentally. "a train was derailed after it collided with a herd of cattle" (of a train or trolley car) accidentally leave the tracks. "the trolley cars had a tendency to derail on sharp corners" obstruct (a process) by diverting it from its intended course. "the plot is seen by some as an attempt to derail the negotiations"
Surely locking the thread is like permenantly closing a cinema where a shooting took place... It just seems a bit unfair... I feel like the derailer should get a warning (unless they're a major douchebag, in which case silence).
Can't punish the author or I'll bring back the derail train like I did a long time ago. People deliberately derailing threads, needlessly quoting, double and triple posts should be silenced not unlike in game imho.
That is a far-reaching analogy based on a mod-as-protagonist perspective, yet fails to incorporate the full meaning of the OP-as-Victim paradigm you appear to operate under. This is a game, and these are forums. There are players, and volunteers. No one is actually being beaten. To compare a thread lock on a role-playing game to being beaten up in RL is ridiculous. Generally, if the situation is OP vs One Hater, the thread can be 'cleaned' by mods merging the offending posts out, and building an evidence file, which may result in a ban (depending on the severity and context of what was said). If it is the OP vs the World, then its a different issue. If the comments are most of the people bashing OP, then yes I agree the OP is the victim. When we have players who are very disliked (not to name name's), the response to their threads are usually negative and spiral into haterade. In OPvW, the thread is normally beyond being saved by a 'clean.' To protect the victim, we lock the thread so that the harassment against the OP stops. To use your same analogy, this is the equivalent of your police officer stopping the bashing. If the harassing posts are also in breach of TOU, bans may occur. I am yet to be party to mass-bans over derailing, but I also can't see the ban history. The forum community in KaW is very mature, and most know where the line is when it comes to harassing those they dislike. When it comes to bans in forums, we try and do a 'less-is-more approach' so that people do not feel like forums are being over-policed. However, if you feel forums is under-policed, then this is definitely something that I can have support look into regarding the moderator action process. Hope that clarifies the process.
First of all, thanks for having the tenacity to respond publicly and thanks for your service to the kawmmunity. Second, I'm picking out the part of your post that concerns me. While I agree that my analogy may have been extreme, I hope you can agree that the same principles apply. However, what I'm getting from this part of your response is that violating the ToU by derailing a thread is OK, but only if many other people are actively violating the ToU by derailing the thread together with some arbitrary number of other offenders? Don't you think this encourages mob mentality? As long as we all get together and jump this guy, the mods won't touch us? A lot of people dislike black people. Does that make it OK for other people to ostracise them as long as a bunch of people do it together? I understand that cleaning threads with lots of derailers is a lot of work, but I think when bans start getting handed down for violating the ToU by derailing, people will get the message and the problem might go away...
Daphnia had to write that for the wanna be creative writing crybabys like cheese. He wants to post threads on a RP game with a 9 plus rating and them taken serious with only debate or positive feedback.Any little bit if flamming or trolling ruins his kaw experience because he doesn't play the tap tap competitive side only the social/forum side..
Cheese wastes his life inside his house cuz hes afraid of the system. He corroborates his point of view by searchin for and keeping newspaper articles that are either biased or exaggerate the truth so he can preach to ppl on the internet how right he is. Police state is one of his big words. He shouts this words left and right. He'll be afraid of and compare any civilized order figure to terrorist figure. He does this because he's weak and afraid. He compensate by trying to be an intellectual. You got to try harder. I can see through your pathetic rhetoric. If people were to agree in your stupid, baseless,fear-based arguments we would be set 500 years back. Yeah, exactly the place you'd like so you could deny about half the population their rights. Daphnia is not by any means any of your stupid characters in your little fantasy world of fear and represion. Back off you imbecile. Pd.- you know what rights I'm talking about. Don't waste your time pretending you don't know.
