To start off I would just like to say, WELCOME TO KAW! I've been playing KaW since October, 2010 and since then I've been looking for other games similar to KaW (because I love it so much). However both on the iTunes App store and on the internet I can find no game quite like KaW. So I hope you stick around and fall as deeply in love with KaW as I have. There is a good chance that if you are reading this Guide you have already completed the first few steps, so please feel free to skip over them. -Setting up an Account- To create a KaW account all you need is the KaW app on an IOS or Android device, or you can play through your internet browser using your pc (or mac). If you are using pc (or mac) you will need to go to http://www.kingdomsatwar.com/ and click "Play FREE now!" You will then need to login using your Facebook or ATA (A Thinking Ape) account. You can also play using your Mochi games account if you search Kingdoms at War through Mochi games. OR You can also click "Start Playing" which delays your login. -The Tutorial- NOTE: This ENTIRE Guide is written from the perspective of PC but can be followed on any device. However there may be slight differences. The first thing you will do once you’re logged in is go through a short tutorial showing you some of the basics of the game. You will have to click on a land you don't currently have (which is clearly marked "Click here!" which will give you the option to then buy the land for a certain amount of gold. Normally you can buy land in a certain region in any order, but for the tutorial you have to start with this one. So click the land, then click explore. Congratulations you have bought your first land. Unfortunately it is empty so it does nothing for you whatsoever. If you click on a land you own but that is empty you will get the option to build various buildings. You won't have all the buildings unlocked when you first start so just pick whichever you fancy (you will replace it eventually). Next you will have to complete some Quests. All you have to do is click on the Quests tab to bring up the Quests tab, and from there you can view either Incomplete Quests or All Quests. All you need to do to attempt a Quest is click "Do Quest" and you will get either a "Victory" or a "Defeat" notification. For the tutorial you can't lose. After you complete three Quests you will need to go to the Battle tab. This tab shows random players who are close to your strength. Pick one to attack and click "attack". As the same with Quests, you will get either a "Victory" or "Defeat" notification. Next go to the Allies tab. This tab displays all the players you currently own. Since you don't own any yet click on "hire more allies" button. You will be given three players to choose from. Just pick one, you don't keep them anyway. Next click the "Kingdom" tab to go back to your kingdom. It's time you bought another land. Do this the same way as before. So you now have an empty land, and an empty wallet, with no Gold you can't build any buildings. To fix this click on the "Oracle" tab. In this tab you can trade nobility points for either Gold or full troop regeneration. In the Oracle you can also use a health crystal which gives you a full troop regeneration or change your name for 20 nobility points. Under these offers you will be able to purchase ProPacks, health crystals or nobility points for REAL $$$. This is temporarily disabled for the tutorial. Try trading 15 nobility points for 500 Gold now, then go back to your kingdom to build on that empty land. For now your only choice will be to buy a spy building (a guild) so go ahead and do that. Since you now have spies, go back to the "Battle" tab, but instead of attacking someone click "spy". The three spy actions are Scout, Steal and Assassinate. For the tutorial choose Steal. You will get the same notification letting you know if you won the attack or not as you would from a Quest or normal attack. Click close on the notification. Now you get to choose your war banner, this makes almost no impact in the game so just choose whichever color you like best. If you haven't logged in yet you will have to do so now. If you are already logged in you will have to come up with a name for yourself. To me, this is one of the most important parts of the game. Your name will be you, and all the friends you meet in the game will call you by this name. The characters you can use in your name are; Letters both upper and lowercase, number, dashes and underscores (no spaces). If you try to submit a name that is already taken by another player you will have to try again until you find a name that isn't taken. Congratulations, you have now set up your account! -Getting On Your Feet- There are a few things you will need as soon as you start playing KaW. #1 A Volley #2 A Clan #3 More Buildings #4 Allies #5 Friends #1 A Volley: A "Volley" is the term we KaW players use to refer two or more players hiring the same ally back and forth. When a player is hired, they get gold. When you hire a player, the cost of that player increases. Then if you sell that player you make profit. When you first begin playing you will cost hardly anything. So players can profit from hiring you back and forth while losing almost nothing. This is also good for you since every time you are hired you get a cut. To get a Volley, just go to World Chat and post something like "I am a new player, please Volley me". Just make sure you say you are new, and ask for a Volley. It costs 1 speaker which you can buy for 1 nobility point to post a message in WC (World Chat) so put all your info into one message. If you don't have any nobility points or speakers then work on getting a clan first and then ask your clan in Clan Chat to Volley you. #2 A Clan: To find a clan just go to World Chat and read all of the numerous Clan Ads that are sure to be spamming WC. Read until you find an Ad that says "all welcome", "welcoming noobs", "no min stats" or something along those lines. Once you find a good clan Ad, click the name of the player that posted the Ad. This will take you to their profile. If the player has any sense at all they will be in the clan they were advertising for. Toward the top of their profile there should be a spot that says "Clan: Clan Name Here". If you click the name of the clan it will take you to the clan page. On this page there will be info about the clan (like clan rules) that you can read if you want. Also this page is where you can apply to the clan. Once you have applied you will have to wait for one of the clan members who is either the owner, or a clan admin to accept your application to the clan. You can leave a clan you are in at any time on the clan page. #3 More Buildings: As you are getting Volleyed and racking in the dough, you need to start spending it on upgrades. Resist the temptation to buy more buildings or upgrade your current ones! Instead just buy land until you have 9 total. This will unlock the next level of buildings which is what we call Tier 2 (or T2). One of these buildings is the Forge, and this is the one you will build most since it gives the best plunder and you are going to replace them all anyway. Once you have Forges unlocked build one, then upgrade it, then upgrade it again. Now it will be a level 3 Forge, which is maxed out. Now you can build a second Forge. Don't build a new Forge until all the ones you have are max level. Keep repeating this until you have all the first 25 lands filled. (You will also need to upgrade your spies some. Try for 3-5 Guilds and upgrade the level when you can. Guilds upgrade to level 4.) While you are working on maxing your first 25 lands ( what we call the low lands, or the LL ) do some research on what kind of build you are going to want and what kind of buildings you will need that way you are ready to switch over when the time comes. Refer to Wulf's Building Guide for great info http://forum.kingdomsatwar.com/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=105624&start=0 #4 Allies: There are two main things Allies do for you. First, they increase your stats. Second, they give you what is called an Ally bonus which means you make more Gold per hit. Your Ally Bonus is static and will not decrease no matter how many troops you have out at the time, unlike your normal Gold plunder. The more expensive your allies the more Gold they will give you per hit. Also if another player hires your ally you lose your ally, but get a little more than what you paid for them in return. You always want to be at what we call max plunder, which means your Ally Bonus is as high as it can go. The stronger you are the higher your Ally Bonus cap. So every time you upgrade you are going to want to make sure you are at max plunder. To do this all you have to do is take note of exactly what your Ally Bonus is (when you successfully win an attack it tell you what portion of your Gold won was from your Ally Bonus) then, hire another ally and attack the SAME target again. When you win check to see if your Ally Bonus went up. If it did you were not at max plunder, but if not then you are. #5 Friends: Believe me, Friends are the single most important part of this game. Make as many friends as you can and your KaW experience will much more interesting and entertaining. There are several ways you can communicate with your friends (and foes). First there is World Chat. Also there is Clan Chat, a chat room that anyone in your clan has access to. Next is Ally Chat. In this room you can talk to your owner and any of your allies. You can also post on someone’s wall. A Player's wall is located on their profile. Anyone can see wall posts and players can only delete messages from their own wall. And last is personal message (pm). To have access to pm you must go to a player's profile and choose "follow". The player will then get a notification saying you followed them and if they see it and decide to follow you back then in place of the "follow" button there will be a "send message" button which opens up pm between you and that player. When two people follow each other they become friends. Once you are friends with someone they will show up in your friend’s window and if you click on their name from there you can access the pm that way. Remember, this game is Global so you have potential to meet all kinds of people you would never get the chance to normally. Epic Battles and Estoc War There are two main events in KaW which are Epic Battles and War. Epic Battles are fought against bots while War is fought against actual other players. Epic Battles: Your main source of Gold is going to be Epic Battles (EBs). These Battles are worked on by your entire clan and consist of several Phases that need to be completed in order to win the battle. Generally there will be phases where you need to Attack, Assassinate, Scout, Steal or use a specific item to advance in the battle. Based on how much you contributed to the battle you will be given battle tax at the end of the battle (if your clan completes the battle). When you need to use a specific item to advance in the EB you will not win any Gold per hit, but item phases give huge payouts in battle tax, so they are extremely good to get. You also won't win Gold for Assassinating or Scouting but these also will add to your battle tax. In addition to battle tax some EBs drop equipment that when equipped give you stat boosts. Whether you receive one of these pieces of equipment is random, but it is extremely believed that 1 successful action in the EB = 1 chance to get the item. Some EBs have special unique scenarios so always check your Clan Chat and your Clan Chat's Clan Topic for directions if you aren't familiar with the EB. Also see Wulf's Guide to Epic Battles http://forum.kingdomsatwar.com/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=100365&start=0 Estoc War: Besides EBs, KaW's other main event is the Estoc War. If your clan chooses participate in an Estoc War they'll teach you all the good stuff about it and how it works, for now I'll just give you an overview. First your clan has to sign-up for a scheduled war (only clan admins or the owner can do this). Then you need to choose to opt-into the war by going to the Alchemist selecting the Abilities tab and activating the Wave of Conflict spell. If you are unsure of how to do this just ask your clan mates. Once the war starts you will have until the scheduled time it finishes to beat-up the opposing clan enough to gain the lead. The lead is determined by how much Gold one clan has made off the other. If neither clan forfeits then time will run out and a winner will be determined. You get a special reward for winning Estoc Wars based on contribution called Mithril which you can use at the Alchemist to activate stat boosting spells, ability spells, spells to temporarily change the color of your name, or buy Red War Paladin equipment. Also see Mikezilla's Guide to Estoc Wars http://forum.kingdomsatwar.com/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=128177&start=0 Comments are much appreciated. If there is something important I left out please let me know, I'll ad it if I have time. Also if any of this information is no longer current please let me know.
Re: Azreth's Guide for New Players @War section You don't win Mith from all wars, you only get it from Estoc. You should probably add that in. Also, I'll be honest, I skimmed, there is a lot xD
Re: Azreth's Guide for New Players If I'd have made this thread I'd be a permfarm because I'd have done awful. Epic work man!!
Re: Azreth's Guide for New Players Azreth. Advice... Go back and edit Nd put paragraphs in your subjects. Every, 3 to 5 sentences depending on how long the sentence. So not to scare away readers by giving them multiple giant walls of text.
Re: Azreth's Guide for New Players Actually your #2 (clans) is pretty bad advice. I mean, what kind if person just applies to a random clan? They should check out the epic battle completion times as which ones they do most. Also, for building, they should keep a few guilds. It would help a lot. And add in a few epic battles that would help. Sometimes I'll just sneak in the alt that I have with 1 stable to a haunting clan and get some items phases. He's like a tiny bank with a few thousand pots. Why? No reason. He's having fun with triple Hauntings. None of the admins even bother to check who's at the bottom xD
Re: Azreth's Guide for New Players Not sure if you read the title but this advice is for players who literally just started, so no i wouldn't recomend #2 to anyone else but sometimes you just gotta get out there and see some clans for yourself. i did mention you can leave at any time and brand new players won't know what times are good or bad on certain eb's. also i did recomends to keep 3-5 guilds and to upgrade them when you can.
Re: Azreth's Guide for New Players Dang... awesome thread, like someone else said though space out some of the sentences, it scares of people to read so much
Re: Azreth's Guide for New Players You should add the bonuses from items and mith spells for alchemist reasons
Re: Azreth's Guide for New Players Great guide, although I did find a few features similar to slayerbob's KaW Handbook, but good potential if you add a few things to make it unique
Re: Azreth's Guide for New Players @lang I know but once they get passed there 25 first lands they wont know what to do with the mith they have are will buy.
Re: Azreth's Guide for New Players This account isnt even a day old, this is how you grow a alt
