Long ago in the kingdom of Desira there was a king. He was a brave king ready to do anything for his kingdom and its people.
He wasn't just a king though. He was the crest for the knighthood code. He was the protector of all seven knightly virtues.
He had seven sons as well. When each was born each was given a virtues that they would protect. The virtues were courage, justice, mercy, generosity, faith, nobility, and hope.
The kingdom was in peace for many years. However one day the seven brothers fought with each other causing their virtue to shine brighter. Since that happened there was an unbalance in the world of the knights.
Knights fought against each other for no reason. Kingdoms at peace started wars for with no cause. The king how ever was smarter than all. He separated the brothers forever and by doing so weakens their powers so no virtue would even shine brighter than another. With the brothers seperate the world was at peace once more.
The peace reigned through many generations after the king and the virtues were passed down from eldest child to the next. Though peace didn't last but then again it never really does. The defendants of the seven brothers sought each other out and fought and killed each other.
The world has been at war ever since. At times it was worse than others but there was always fighting. Because of that the world was forced into the the dark ages again. This time however it was called the darkness.

  3. Chapter 1
    Year 5552 D

In the kingdom Desira a young boy was walking quietly back Ti his little hut with stolen food. His name was Peter Philipson. He was hiding a loaf of bread under his tunic. 'I have to get this home to mum. If I do not cause I was caught what will my family do? They can't honestly send a six ear old boy or a three year old girl out to steal? Can they?'
He hurried down the dirt street and to the small, old, run down hut. He ran inside and set the loa on the table. "Mum? I have the bread" said Peter quite loudly. A young woman rushed into the room. "Hush Peter. We need not the whole town that weave bread. Especially since they know we are a poor family" said mum in a urgent semi cold tone. Then is softened. "I am sorry. I should not have been so harsh, but do try to be quieter about it. I know this is a dengerous job even for a man of sixteen like yourself."
Suddenly a young girl with braids came running in and hugs Peter tightly. "Peter! I am so glad you are back. Did you catch us some food?" asked Katie of three years. Since she was only three she did not understand the concept of steal. Also they k SW she was t good at keeping her mouth shut and they didn't want to be given away.
So they used the concept of catching as if they were goinghunting. He smiled "Or course I did. Did you think I was going to come back empty handed and have us all starve? Silly Katie." said Peter.
Katie beamed with delight. Shell ones as if she had never been happy in her entire life which is not true at all. She is always smiling and happy. "Mum do you think we could add some name with that bread? I mean Peter did 'catch' some jam the other day and we still have some left" peeped up a little voice.
A young boy peered his head out from the side of the hut. His name was Nathan of six years. He was a very bright boy. Always knowing what to say and do and always at the appropriate time.
"Well Nathan. I do agree. I think it is time to have a little feast. We will have bread and jam for dinner tonight and little bit of the boar from the day before" said Mum.
When mum allowed to have a feast that always meant there was some kind of bad news. Normally she would always be preservative about the food but today was different. She walked outside to sit in a wooden chair as she always did when she was upset.
Peter followed. "Mother what is it? I am sixteen years d now and I know when you are upset about something. Is is rather? Was he wounded in battle?" asked Peter. Their father Sir Philip was a knight in the Desirian army. They were at war with the kingdom of Viladroc.btheir queen and the king of Desira had a horrible history. They have been at constant war for years. Ever since the reign of peace was ended.
Mum looked at Peter with amusement thinking of how much he was like his father. "No not this time. Actually it is about you Peter. I wanted to tell you this a long time ago, but I never found the right time to do it. When ever I tried you always ran off to do something fun, and I did not want to spoil is for you so I let you be" said mum.
Peter was puzzled. What did she mean the trouble was about me. Had he been caught? Was he to die on the bloodily Temple of the Elementals. "Well what is it about" asked Peter.
She hesitated and then explained. "Well you know about the story of the king, his sons, and the seven virtues right?" Peter nodded not knowing why she was asking this. She continued. "Good. Well as you know each virtue is passed down from generation to generation by the eldest child be it male or female. Once the carried before it dies then full guardianship of that virtue it the next in lines."
He didn't understand. Why was she telling him this. He wasn't a child who needed to be told fun stories but he went along anyway. "I still don't understand what any of this has got to do with me" said Peter.
She smiled. "Of course you don't. I haven't told you yet. Well anyways you are the heir to the virtue of courage. After your father dies you will be the guardian of Courage. Once that happens you will have to find the others and try to get them on your side. Your father has been pretty successful so the war this year hasn't been to brutal" said explained.
It still didn't make perfect sense but it probably never will. "There is also one more thing. You are the decendant of Prince Alec the eldest child of the king. Since you have the virtue of courage it makes you a born leader and savior do it is your duty to unite them" said mum.
By the end of their discussion it was timefkrtheir feast. They all chartered and talked and even Peter had a good time dispute what he was just told. Every child had dreamed of being a holder of a virtue but never had they expected to be one like Peter just was.
At the end of dinner Peter walked off to bed early. He didn't want to talk to anyone or see anyone. He wanted some time to be alone and think things though. His mind was clouded that that night but he eventually drifted off to sleep.

  9. Chapter 2

When Peter awoke the next morning he felt great. Wonderful in fact. He felt as if he could lead the whole army to battle and win even in the most difficult situation. He didn't quite understand it cause he need felt like it before. Though it did feel amazing.
He went to breakfast and was cheerful as ever. To make it even better mum came rushing in with the biggest smile ever. "Children you will never believe this but the war has finally ended! Which means father is comin home! There is still small raids but nothing serious." she said.
The children jumped for joy. It had been three years since they saw their father. Peter was the happiest of them all. "Mum can I go tell Jason?" asked Peter.
Mum looked hesitate but finally agreed since she understood what good friends he was with Jason. He smiled and ran up to the main village. This part of town was where most people lived. The people with enough money and with shops.
He ran to Jason at the square. He laughed and yelled "Jason did you hear? The war has ended and our fathers are coming home!". They both knew how important it was since both grew up with their fathers missing at times. Jason nodded and ran up to him.
They hugged and patted each other on the backs. No one ever expect them to be friends. When Peter's family wasn't poor they lived very close to Jason's family. They were both outcasts in school but never did anything.
One day however they went to the river and Jason fell in. He was almost carried away and would be dead if Peter hadn't jumped in a pulled him out. After he saved him they became instant friends and were inseberable.
They were both devastated when Peter's family became poor. Jason and his family helped them as much as they could but eventually they quit because mum asked them to. She said 'I thank you for your help but I don't want me or my family to become to dependent'.
"So it's finally happened. The war has ended so the men and woman can come home. I never thought I'd see the day and we are only sixteen" said Jason. He nodded in agreement. It's been hard without him as well for the other families who had a member go to war.
The boys hung out for a while at the field.
It was late afternoon almost time for dinner. When he reached his small house he didn't see his mother outside on the porch as she normally was at this time. He was curious why. He walked inside and was surpirsed at what he saw.
Inside his house there was two soldiers holding a sword and a dagger. The other holding a suit of armour. He didn't know what had happened cause when he came into hearing distance he heard a soldier say "Your husband Philip is dead."
He was dead. Dad was dead. He was so devastated again especially since he was just old he was coming home. He would never see his father again. He also realized that he was now the protector of Courage.
His mum looked back and saw Peter her eyes wet from tears. She put her arms out as a gesture for a hug. "Peter...." but that was all he heard. He bolted out the door and into the forest. He ran to a clearing and cried.

  16. Chapter 3

He is dead. I will never see him again. I am the new Protector. I have to find the others and for what? I hope Jason's father come home safely and soon.
Thoughts and feelings flied though Peter's mind. He was confused and didn't know where to go from here. Would he hide in the forest? Live with his family and protect them? Would he go looking for the other Protectors?
He sat in the clearing for about and hour more. His mother didn't come look for him cause she knew it would be useless until her wanted to talk about it.
When he got up he went back to his house his face still red and wet from the tears. His mother stood up and embraced him in her warm arms. Soon after Katie and Nathan joined them in their hug. It was a sad day for them all.
Mum explained what happened. She said they had won the war and were getting ready to come home when a final rad came. They attacked and went after the prince. He led a group of men to save him and was killed in doing so.
“Your father was a brave man, and you all should be proud and honored to of had him as a father. Not all of the soldiers die as great heroes like your dad but all a hero none the less,” said Mum. They sat down in their house and soon went to bed for the night.
The next day they woke up to a knock at the door. Mum got up along with Peter and she opened the door. There stood the King. King Vladimir X was his name. We both bowed to the king. “Your majesty. What brings you here to our home so to speak? It is an honor either way,” said Mum.
The king hesitated for a minute then he spoke. “Well first of all it is about your husband. He became a friend of mine and I wanted to come here and tell you how sorry I am about your loss. The other reason is about your son Peter,” said Kind Vladimir.
“You see I know he is a Protector. I found that out from being friends with his father. I came here with a scroll. This was written by the very first king. The king who separated his sons to prevent fighting. It was said it would help the Protectors,” said Vladimir.
He handed Peter the scroll. “Your welcome to open it now or later. I don't really care. I do ask you though that you will find the six other Protectors. This kingdom needs peace once more,” said the king and then he left.
Peter didn't know what to make of it but he did read the scroll.
    Sever brothers, seven tribes
Seven protectors to save us all
From courage to justice to mercy,
Generosity to faith to nobility and hope
Heroes in the unknown shall rise to the top
    And defeat the Darkness
    Who tortures us all
What? How could this be of any help? The king said it was supposed to help me find the other Protectors not tell me the obvious. “I don't understand. I would like to know how to find them, but I don't know how,” said Peter.
“My dear if you look closely it says that seven kingdoms and seven brothers. The King did separate the brothers into what are now the seven kingdoms. Maybe each Protector is in that kingdom,” said Mum.
Peter knew she could be right. She was right about everything else after all. Even as a kid she knew what he was doing, what he said and did. Everything. “Well, maybe your right. I guess I'll have to start the journey. I have Peter of Desirian Tribe and Protector of the Virtues of Courage. It is now my duty to find the other six protectors,” said Peter.
Mum smiled. She knew he had found his destiny. “I know you will make a wonderful Protector. Do me proud my son,” said Mum. He began to pack up his things and borrowed a horse from his friend.
He was about to mount up when Nathan and Katie came up. “Please Pete don't leave us. We need you!” cried Katie.
“Yes brother. I...we need you. I can't steal like you can. It's just not in me and Katie can't do it. You are our provider now that father is dead,” said Nathan.
He thought for a second. “You needn't worry about that. Jack and his family will take care of you all I promise. I will come back home and alive. I won't die on you like father did. I will find the Protectors and I will save the world. I promise,” said Peter.
He bent down and gave them all a hug. Katie started to cry her eyes out. Almost literally. Peter then mounted up onto the horse and rode off toward the Deladith tribe to the east.
