The Russian Troll Factory

  1. I just read an article about a russian company whose enployees are tasked with creating propaganda via blog and news article comments. Heres an excerpt from the article i read:

    Typically, these users will post from new accounts, which we'd call "statless alts." Or they may have old accounts with comment history mostly relating to russian affairs.

    Its pretty well-known that the US has been doing this for some time, but i found it interesting that other countries are now doing it too.

    I think the biggest reason the US is so stable internally is because we have the most efficient propaganda machine, which starts with forceibly institutionalizing children - parents can be jailed for not sending their kids to school - and continues with more obvious means of sheeople control, like the mass media.

    Anyway, just thought id share.

    Trolls welcome - yes, even the russian ones 

    OP is interesting though. I can't say I'm really shocked that Russia or the US does this.

    You said statless alts. Does that mean we're being spied on by those abominations? :eek:

  5. Monster - its not a typo - its a figure of speech that jabs at the way the american public opinion can be hearded like sheep

    I dont think there are russian trolls in kaw using statless alts - that was just an analogy to help the reader understand the point by drawing on something familiar to users of kaw forums

  8. Well it's not like you could actually hear the sarcasm. Over text it can be difficult to determine if something is sarcastic or not.

    Neither am i. Except i just posted an article from a news source owned by a company called America Online about propaganda from a country we have tensions with.
