So the German WWII leader's name has been censored as well as his respective political party. Meanwhile we are still allowed to talk about the SS and Gestapo. Whilst on the subject of genocidal maniacs shouldn't Stalin, Mao, ISIS and other similar subjects be censored too if the same logic is applied? I am not trying to push further censorship, if anything I think that censorship like this should be undone as just because we can't talk about doesn't mean it didn't happen.
While I get what you're saying, I can somewhat imagine why the devs censored the name. Plus, not everyone lives in America so other users might see the name as something more than a topic of discussion (not to undermine the history of it at all though).
Unfortunately, the people who misuse these names also don't understand the full picture or care to enlighten themselves of such facts. And really, how often should such a thing even come up in conversation? The only time it's really used in everyday conversation is as a comparison to somebody who seems to be in power and making poor, and dictatorship - like decisions.
Unfortunately I can remember when this first came up ( at least that I am aware of ). There was a clan of rather unsavoury players that wanted to copy the big farming clans of the day. So like the heroes they were creating their own reputation and making a name for themselves. They chose an easy shortcut to cause offence to many players ( particularly German players that rightly want to move on from that part of their nations past ). The owner naming himself after a censored name and the clan after the censored party and being as ignorant as possible they really did not leave much choice other than to add censorship to such things. Also remember that not all censorship comes from ata. Apple and other app stores carry certain rules on censorship that developers have to meet to gain or maintain an age rating. It's a small price to pay for keeping kaw a less toxic place. And ultimately most censorship was caused by someone else's abuse in the first place ๎
The guy caused lots of pain and suffering. If there was a forum about whether it was a good leader or a bad leader, it could insult players about their ancestors. I support the devs doing this. Stalin is not a bypass, because the pain he caused was hidden up, few people remaining actually hate him. I don't know much about Mao... And again, the people with access to KaW, who have been directly affected by Isis is very low... There aren't many worshippers of the Egyptian gods left... Please shoot me
To be honest, I see this as more of a "meet new people" app, with the nice, added side-affect of the kingdom. Debate is rife in all places, and why not here?
Stalin was far worse but he was part of the victors and will write the past or has wrote the past. 23-30 million Ukrainians dead by that man.
This. Personally, I think there are too many Off-Topic posts in Kaw. Would it kill, say, Imitation-Cheese to stop posting his usual political crap threads that just incite arguments and actually post something Kaw-related? No need to discuss German war criminals in a tap tap game. I'm Japanese yet I feel no need to pollute the threads talking about Japanese war criminals.
Didnt take a lot of digging but as prior stated the directive for censoring that dictator does appear to come directly from apple and play store. Cannot blame ata for this one at all.
Honestly I think its censored because anyone who mentions the name on this app are using it offensively. Therefore, they are such morons they do not think of Stalin.
For a long time lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender were censored on the app. This was until my friends and I started a huge riot on world chat and devs ended up coming on apologizing and uncensoring. Just some words are strangely censored and some arent. Almost like how twitch users can just find a list of bannable words online for their chat that's already compiled. Then they just copy and paste it. The list is compiled of basic words deemed inappropriate and some are missed. Internet logic sticks to few words.
