So everyone knows that America is the land of "Freedom and opertunity" right? Now don't get me wrong. I LOVE America and can think of no better place for me to live in, but lately I've been thinking. We're supposed to be a free country, and I'm not saying we aren't, but there's no way we can be totally free and independant. For example, if we were free and totally independant, we wouldn't have to pay taxes or buy anything, heck we could just take it, because "It's a free country, I can do whatever I want" as the old saying goes. Basically my point is that no matter where you live or what you're doing, you really can't ever be completely free, unless your say, a dictator or the leader of an absolute monarchy. Like I said, I've been thinking about this for a while now, and it's pretty deep stuff, let me know what you think, because after all, opinions matter
I don't think our founding fathers wanted freedom in your sense but just the ability to live our lives as we choose. Should we help others? Should grow rich? Should we grow happy? Should we sacrifice ourselves for the greater good? These are choices that should be made by us, and U.S.A, for the most part, allows it's citizens those freedoms. In return, we allow the government to exist as is. That's why we are such a laid back country. Why, in over 200 years, we only had 1 major rebellion, and only a few minor ones. We are in general, happy. Not from achieving it, but by being allowed to achieve it. We may not be truly happy, but we are happy enough to not try and lop off the heads of government like the French. (joke intended)
