Prologue: A dark figure crawls out of the shadows in a narrow alley. It is small and vaguely manlike in appearance, yet it moves as no man could. A deep voice is heard cursing as a metal object lands on the hard floor, the clang permeating the air. The figure moves cautiously towards the noise of which it is unfamiliar. It rounds a corner into another alley and discovers the source of the noise. It is a short and filthy man, scavenging for a meal. The figure studies the man for a short while, unseen by all as the shadows mask its presence. Once it is certain that the man poses no threat, it starts its approach. It nears the man with the stealth of night, nearly gliding upon the concrete surface. When it reaches the man it lightly taps him on the shoulder with a veiled arm. “What do you want?” the man demands as he turns around. “What the…” A piercing scream echoes through the city, shattering the silence of dusk. Those on the streets continue on, unaware that the invasion has begun.
If it looks human, sounds human, and acts human, it’s human, right? We all wish that were so. That was true until the invasion. We think we know when it started. We haven’t a clue when, or more importantly if, it will end. You’d think the government would help us in our hour of direst need. We know they can’t and that they probably never could. The entire government is controlled by Them. Human economy is collapsing and the landscape has been irrecoverably altered by a slew of disasters, not all of them natural. Examples? Hmph. How about a nice visit to Chicago? Destroyed by an earthquake that sent shivers throughout the globe and registered a 15.6 on the Richter Scale. New York? Enveloped by the sea nearly 7 years ago. Denver? Swallowed by the earth itself. And Seattle? Well, as far as we know, Seattle still stands. For now. We have no clue on how the rest of the world fares. They shut down all contact 13 years ago. Crossing borders is deadly. They are now littered with the rotting corpses of those who attempted to defy Them and try to cross. Only those of the Invasion may cross unmolested. Only They have power. Only them, and the rebels. They are the Shioks. Those of the Twilight. They are the last hope for everything and everyone. I fight alongside them, as the last of my order, the Kals, the most recent rebellion group crushed. I once swore to avenge my order and bring an era of rebirth to this planet. That is my mission. Those of the Invasion are the only ones that stand in my way. The difference from before is that now, I have power they cannot defeat.
