Hi forums, I just came back from watching the third and final Hobbit film (it was released at my local Cineworld just today), and I really don't know what I thought of it. I was a little underwhelmed by the first movie of the trilogy, but the second one surpassed my expectations, so I didn't know what to expect when heading into the cinema today - would Peter Jackson disappoint me again, or would he deliver yet another masterpiece, as shown by the LOTR trilogy? SPOILER ALERT So, the PROS of the film, in my opinion: The music was stunning and well suited to the film, as per usual. The scenery was yet again breathtaking and the CGI was fantastic (LOTR and The Hobbit have never disappointed me in this department). In addition to this, I really liked the character development - Thorin in particular. I also thought Martin Freeman's portrayal of Bilbo was exception, as he always is. There were many other strong points of the film, but I cannot think of them off the top of my head. Here come the CONS of the film. There weren't many, but in my opinion I disliked the way that in almost EVERY fight scene there was that cheesy "oh, that was lucky" moment, if you know what I mean. For example, there was that moment when the large birds (I don't know the name of them  ) arrived JUST in time to take down the second orc army. They could have cut down on the numerous moments like that... Also, there were a few examples of those typical film fight moments when the protagonist fails to utilise their full ability (which would have otherwise easily have taken down their opponents). An example of this would be when Gandalf (as usual) is CLEARLY able to cast his spells (as in, he has the power to), but instead uses his staff to bash orcs in the head, which often puts him in serious danger. I have not read the Hobbit book, so please correct me if these things are actually in the book, in which case I'm sorry. So basically that's my verdict. Overall I enjoyed the film, but I've still come out of it preferring the LOTR trilogy (perhaps due to the original "Lord of the Rings" books being far longer than "The Hobbit" is, so there was simply more content to include). So, to anyone who's seen it, what were your thoughts?
I'm not going to go see it. The dwarf/elf romance in the previous movie ruined it for me. Screw you Hollywood.
I couldn't agree more. YuGiOh > Pokemon There used to be a divide of kids in my primary school, primarily for different preferences of those games
Have to agree with op. All these movies with magicians and mages and wizards and the little magic they do is ****. Gimme something big and amazing! Clear a battlefield in one self sacrificial spell or some ****. Same with bloody Harry potter. I hate child heroes for starters but all the magic there was just stupid. Heck Carrie could tear a house down with her telekinesis, and these guys just turn moths into eagles.....
Well the 2nd hobbit movie. For me the CGi was terrible. When you saw a character in the distance you could clearly see a shroud of green around him. It's like they rushed the movie. Someone without a keen eye won't notice all these things through the movie but I did. Also why the heck is Legolas here? He wasn't even in the original story! Sorry hobbit isn't worth watching.
