Prologue "It's the Diamond era and we can't seem to hold our ground much longer.. Already our numbers are beginning to dwindle against the fae. The elves won't pick sides.. We need help...." he writes in his journal before a soldier comes running in. "Sir!" he says hurriedly. "Requesting permission to retreat!" "Permission granted, soldier. Evacuate the women and children first, hold them off as long as you can while doing so." "Yes sir, lord sword master. I hope you have a trick up your sleeve to get us out of this one.." the soldier salutes and leaves. The sword master writes one last thing in his journal before closing it, "May his Highness bless me and give me strength to do the deed I am about to commit. May he read this and follow my dying wish.. Let the fae, the elves, and the humans live in harmony until time it's self stops, let them be friends and neighbors, let them fight side by side in battle." and if by some wave of a magic wand he had laced his final words with power and magic. He then took his sword in hand and left the house, leaving the journal open for all to read as he strode to the gates of the city, purple eyes gleaming and deep red hair blowing in the wind. He never wanted this war. He knew one of the nobles angered the fae and caused this war. He should be angry too because the fae had tricked his people. He had been friends with a merchant from the faery lands and feared that his friend could die by his hand. But he would cast his fears aside because he knew he had a secret tool he can use. He looked up at the sky to say his final prayer as a dark shadow with dragon's wings flew over his head.
Chapter 1~ Ellie "There it is again.." I whisper to myself as a dark shadow passes over me. The shadow has wings and a tail shaped like a dragon's. "It's the same dream again..." I mutter as I look in front of me, expecting the dragon to land there as it always does. The dragon doesn't land there but instead let's out a roar sounding oddly like my mom... "Ellie!! Time to wake up!! It's your first day as a sophomore!!" I slowly open my eyes and sigh at my ever glowing soft gold room. "Ellie!! Up! NOW!!" my mom calls. "I'm up mom!! Stop shouting already!!" I yell back and get up to take a shower. But something stops me and propels me towards the window. I look out on the same old town by the same old forest and river with the same human, elven, and faery merchants, blacksmiths, and shop owners that I have known all my life. "Nothing out of the ordinary.." I murmur to myself as I open the window. I look again to the town that's shining in the early morning sunlight below me. My family and a few other families live on the same hill. I turn my eyes towards the sun just in time to see a black dot fly across it and hear a distant roar. I stand there, staring for a few more minutes before I remember I need to get to the academy on time. I close my window and grab my hunting gear and my bow, pulling on my leather armor and boots. Yes you may have guessed, I'm going to be a sophomore hunter at the Hunting Academy for Boys, Girls, Elves, and Faerys. Since the war we have been living peacefully together. Since he.. I shake my head quickly to clear the thoughts in my head and quickly run to the washroom to wash my creamy, light brown face and pull my deep red hair into a braid. I look at my hair in the mirror. The color of autumn leaves my dad calls it, but I like to think of it as more of a dark red cloak color. My eyes make me different from all the other girls with this color hair, like I was actually meant to be someone.. "Ellie! Your going to be late!!" mom calls again. "Alright!" I call back and take one last look at myself before dashing down the hall, through the kitchen for an apple, and out the door. As I run I check all my knives, daggers, and my quiver to see that they're all there also checking for my ninja sword and arrows. I crunch on my apple as I run down the hill and think. I've been taking all the top classes in the whole school and can beat a teacher in a duel. Tomorrow is my duel with the principal, the elder in our small community. I'm training to be the best warrior assassin in all of Telendia. I throw my apple into the river before I run into town. I dodge the people walking in the street and I hear them laugh and call out "Don't be late, Ellie!" I raise a hand in response as I jump over the short wall separating town land and academy land and keep running. The academy.. I remember my first day as a student at this academy. I was a class 10 warrior assassin and just recently I gained a class so I'm now a class 3. Classes refer to the skill level of a student or teacher at this academy or anyone who has ever been enrolled at this academy, I was taught that on my first day here. I look around and find my group rather easily and come easily to a stop right next to them. I get a chorus of "Hi Ellie," and "Glad your not late today!" from them and I just laugh. "Hi guys," I say with a smile. My group has twin boys, a warrior elf with a pet kitten, don't get me wrong that kitten is vicious! But enough about that, there's also a ninja, and a faery. I nod my head at each in turn. "How are.." Henry starts. "..you today?" Harry finishes, both of pairs of the same aqua green colored eyes gleaming at me. I laugh and ruffle their natural deep green hair and say "Oh I'm fine! Debut duel with the principal tomorrow too." I watch as everyone's face fills with surprise. "Why didn't you tell us!" shouts Dawn, the now angry faery. I looked up at her, she's tall and slightly angelic looking with her natural, very light blonde hair, glowing blue-gold wings, and slim figure. "I wanted to surprise you all with it," I say curtly. "Oh, that's okay then," she says, grinning and calming down immediately. She's a different kind of faery that has some odd mutation so she isn't subjected to how dangerous iron is for all the fae. Tora just stares at me with her glowing orange eyes from under her black cloak hood. She makes a good ninja.. I muse in my head. "So your going to be the first warrior assassin since the diamond era? The first since the era of men?" Seth speaks up in his gruff voice, his kitten sitting on his head like usual. I nod my head yes as I think about how ten thousand years has passed and it's now the bronze era, the era of dragons.
Chapter 2~Ellie My classes don't have any of my friends in them, they're all level 5 warriors and Tora a level 4 ninja. I say good bye to my friends and walk away from them when the bell tolls in the bell tower signaling when your late and when to go to your next class etc. I head up the stairs to the double doors and head to the second floor. All my classes are up these stairs.. I think to myself as I look at the shiny stone stairs and walls of the school. The type of stone they used is shiny and smooth looking yet it's coarse to the touch. I was told it was some type of quartz mixed with some other stone. I look at the other students before going up the stairs and into my first class of the day. History on the diamond era. I listen intently to everything, taking notes. "...and this mans name was Dorsidhion, meaning land-peace and pronounced Dore-see-thee-on," the teacher pronounces each syllable clearly. "Even though his name is in the elven language, he was a human. A warrior assassin like our very own Ellie. In the elvish tongue her name means light and is spelled like this.." the teacher writes "Calathiel" on the board and I stare at it, my heart pounding. "It's pronounced Kahl-ah-thee-ell.." I say out loud. "That's right," the teacher smiles at me. I stare at the name and get a flash back of a dream from a few weeks ago. -flashback- "Calathiel..." I hear a voice call to me. I look around frantically at the meadow I'm standing in. "Who's there!?" I yell at the top of my lungs and only get silence in response. Then the deep voice calls to me again, "Calathiel... It means light in the elven language..." I turn around frantically. "Who are you!? Where are you!?" I shout to the sky. "I'm here... Behind you..." the voice says once more and I turn around to look at the owner of the voice. "Who are you?" I ask in a shaky voice as I stare at the man who looks like the male version of me. His hair is deep red like mine and his eyes are even the same shade of purple as mine are. "I am Dorsidhion. I've come to warn you..." -end flashback- I immediately stand up and run out of the room, muttering a sorry to the teacher as I pass her. She's an elf, she understands.. A voice inside my head says quietly. I run down stairs and out the door. I look up to the sky and whisper "Light.. My name means light.." before sitting next to the school's wall to think about this man. I wind up falling asleep and dreaming once more of this mysterious man. "I see you've found out who I am though I knew you already knew it deep down," Dorsidhion says casually. "Yeah I did. So who are you in relation to me?" I ask carefully. "You mean like a friend or foe?" he answers craftily with his own question. "No, I mean are you related to me?" I ask again. "Yes I am, our eyes and hair run deep in our family blood line. Though the traits only appear when there's danger in the future. The last warrior assassin was 1 million years before me. We all became warrior assassins for a reason. Assassin on foot and warrior in the..." I was woken up to being shaken by very large, firm hands. "Ellie," a voice calls softly. I look up into Seth's silvery eyes and glare slightly. "What is it?" I snap at him. Can't blame me when he's the one who cut off Dorsidhion from telling me important things. "It's lunch time and the principal wants to see you," Seth replies softly. "Oh," was all I could manage as he ran a hand through his black hair, his kitten sleeping on his shoulder snuggled into his neck. I stand up and pat his free shoulder before walking away towards the principal's office. I quickly reach the door and knock lightly before opening the door after hearing a "Come in" "You wanted to see me, sir?" I ask quietly. "Yes Ellie, now have a seat," the principal replies kindly. I pull out a chair and sit, looking straight into his fawn brown eyes. "I heard you ran out of your first class today, is that true?" I nod and mumble "Yes sir," "It's also true that you were found sleeping outside the academy, correct?" I nod once more as I look into my lap. "You also missed your favorite class today but, enough about that. Tell me what you dreamt. You seem a bit off," he says honestly. "I was visited by Dorsidhion.." I say cautiously. "Oh, did he say anything important?" he asks with sudden urgency. "No.. Seth woke me before he could," I say as I look into my principal's eyes as they turn a fiery red. I look at him confused. "My eyes are red aren't they?" I nod. "Excuse me, you can excuse yourself, I need to go for a fl-- run.." he mumbles and hurries out the door. I stare after him for a little before the twins poke their heads in and say "You coming or what?"
Chapter 3~Dragon Elder Thanach A deep rumbling resounds throughout our cave. Another hatchling fight.. I think to myself as I stand and walk over to where they are. "Stop this now," I say in my most commanding tone just as Turac comes flying in breathlessly. I feel my scales tense as I tense up. "Elder," he bows then looks me straight in the eyes. "Ellie has been dreaming of him and of dragons." I stare into his fire red eyes and mumble "It's almost time then." I look over at my son who is currently talking to Undera. "Valos, get over here now." I call to my son. "Yeah dad?" he asks, his golden eyes darting between myself and Turac. "It's almost time. Give Ellie 3 days and she'll know she's ready," I say and sit on my haunches to let the hatchlings play around my forelegs. Valos let's out a roar of victory. "Elder, I need to get back to the school and I will talk to you later," Turac excuses himself and flies out of the cave making the little ones hide behind my tail. Undera waltzes over and asks thoughtfully "What's so great about humans anyways, all they do is try to kill us. Why do we have to go partner up with them?" "Because this time the evil fae won't be so lenient," I reply, thinking back to the war I had fought with Dorsidhion. Turac is our link to the humans because he can turn into one like my son can. Undera and I however cannot. We have pure dragon blood and only on eclipses can we turn human. I think as I lay on my stomach and the hatchlings play around and on me. I close my eyes and blow a smoke ring through my snout. "Something bothering you, elder?" Undera asks cautiously. "No, just thinking and I'm getting old," I say. She just looks at me before she stretches and plods out of the cave most likely going to her favorite spot. I close my eyes and soon hear the hatchlings quiet down and fall asleep by my head. "Father, I know your not asleep. May I have permission to enroll?" Valos asks. "Enroll for what?" I ask tiredly. "You know what," he answers. "Not today, go hunting if you're hungry," I say just before I watch my son leave the cave. ~Ellie "So I find Ellie sleeping by the front door..." I tune Seth out and look around at the forest. I jump as I feel someone put their hand on my arm. "What's up with you Ellie? You usually talk so much at lunch," Dawn asks and I look at her. "I'm just thinking.. And you just made me lose my train of thought," I say slightly annoyed for some reason. I stand up and smile a little at them before walking off into the forest, shouting over my shoulder, "If you need me I'll be in the meadow!" I take off running into the forest and soon come across our meadow that we said would be our hideout. The meadow is beautiful, it has a willow tree and a stream. We brought in pine logs to sit on and made a fire pit for campfires. I wander over to the calmest part of the stream and look at my reflection, my eyes gleaming back at me in all they're dark purply beauty. I splash the water and lay by the bank, staring at the sky. After a while I hear someone coming towards me. "Hey Ellie," Tora says in her soft voice. "Hey Tora," I answer, surprised she talked to me again because the first and only time I've heard her speak was when we met. "The bell rang.." she says again and turns to go. "I'm not going back, I'm too busy thinking," I say and turn to face her but she's gone. I bet she only made her walking loud so she wouldn't scare me.. I think and get up. I look around at the meadow and smile to myself before walking in the direction of my house, listening to the songbirds sing and the leaves rustle in the light wind.
