Sneaking over kingdom borders, They seek to steal it all, Mountains of wealth and fountains gold, From the vault beneath the hall, Only the best can get inside, Most will perish at the wall, But the threat of death does not deter, They will just leave all those who fall, Flitting though the shadows, Unseen by soldiers eyes, Blades withdrawn from folds in cloaks, With each strike a watchman dies, Path now clear they move on up, From the fields into the street, Footsteps masked by leather boots, Not a sound comes from their feet, All is silent in the dead of night, While the kingdom is still asleep, Their goal is nearer with each step, They grow closer to the keep, They sneak on now through the town, Jumping from house to house, Still the spies make not a sound, Quieter than a mouse, The castle walls now at hand, The spies cast their ropes up high, Climbing up the stone brick face, While clueless guards stand by, Almost at the top now, There isnt far to go, When suddenly a cry calls out, It comes from down below, "Thieves!" it screams and echoes out, guards rush to the sound, Cover blown the spies decent, To run when they hit the ground, They reach the floor and try to flee, But too many guards answer the call, The spies know they can't get away, They back up against the wall, Surrounded by a ring of foes, The spies admit defeat, Glaring at their captors, they put their weapons at their feet, As they are being bound in chains, They see a man stood pleased and tall, Not a soldier but a common man, The one who raised the call, The bane of all spies whom all of them hate, The nemesis of the pillager, The one who denied the thieves their prize, The dreaded wandering villager...
