Prologue Lord Volric watched his armies train for his final battle against the people of Gallia on his castle that is on the Dead Mountain. He was the former lord of the region of Belesgar in the kingdom, a region that was once beautiful with rich lakes, massive forrests and wildlife, was now a ruin in the wilderness and ever since then hated the king. His armies made up of orcs, trolls, goblins, and criminals grew stronger every minute and was being bred to destroy the kingdom and his king. It was 10 years ago when Volric saw the last the last glimpse of daylight as the people have made the mountain his prison. The mountain is always dark with no light to ever shine through and without a piece of green on the cold surface. Volric and his army train all day practicing their weapons. Orcs, trolls and goblins were natural ruthless killers as they were bred that way and were merely honing their skills. Volric himself was a swordmaster, but showed no point in showing fugitives the proper way to fight with any weapon. His numbers made up for with 500,000 trained orcs, trolls, and goblins accompanied with 5,000 semi-trained intelligent bandits. All that stands between them and conquering the kingdom, is the growing number of 100,000 highly trained soliders, knights, and archers. He has once tried to seize the throne before, but that was when he was in his palace in Belesgar, he had planned to overthrow the throne with an army of 150,000 and was successful until a surprise force of 25,000 calvary sprang from a secret mountain pass and crushed his force. This time was different though, this time he would have allies, strong allies and a much larger force. The Dead Mountain is an unknown place and holds many powerful monsters. The time is almost upon them to strike down the kingdom and let Volric have the kingdom to himself. Just post your feedback here, I really dont care, and tell me if I should continue cause this is my first story.
Chapter 1 Collin climbed up the wall into the bakery window, where there were 3 small pies. After scannin the room for a couple of minutes, he climbed into the room and grabbed 2 of them. He then quickly soared down the wall and climbed into his tree. It was night, and its cloak concealed him from any passing eye. He just had his dinner, but that didn't stop him from eating his pies, after all they were his favorite kind so he would like the dessert. He was also nervous, tomorrow would be the day when his cabin would have to choose where they would apprentice at. Of course, the trainer would have to accept them as their apprentice. That was the thing that Collin wasn't sure about. He knew that he was a natural with the sword, which would usually put him in knighthood, but he wasnt very tall or strong. He was also a good archer, but the trainer had always held a grudge against him so that wouldn't be an option. Collin was a very good climber, and also good at moving silently, but those skills usually wouldn't do him any good, he thought. Then there was the scribe school, diplomat school, cooking school, and horsetraining school, but those all didn't interest him. If all else fails, he would have to work as a servant for the king, but he put that thought aside. As he finished the first pie, he thought about his cabin mates and their apprenticeships. He and Malcolm were good friends and Malcolm was big, strong, and was trained with a sword by one of the senior students, so there was no doubt he would go into knighthood. Then, there was Ilana, the slim, tall, girl from his cabin. He had a crush on her he had to admit, and in fact, she also had a crush on him, but they could never admit it to eachother and just became good friends ever since they were born. Both their parents had abandoned them when they were born, and they were put in the same cabin. Collin already knew that she would be a diplomat as the head already told her she would proudly accept her. Then, there was Duncan, a quite shy boy that was quite intelligent and a good hunter. Duncan was quite fast and could outrun Collin by a little. Collin knew that he was a good stalker too, perhaps a little better than himself. He wasn't sure what occupation Duncan would want since he was fit, athletic, and strong, but wasnt good with a sword. Collin and Duncan normally strayed from eachother, but they never really understood why. Collin had just finished his second pie at that thought and decided that it would be best to get some rest tonight. As he approached the door, his cabinmaster opened it before he could knock. "Back so early?" the cabinmaster said, he knew that Collin liked to stroll around Castle Arnemor and thought it was strange for him to be back so early. "Thought I should get some rest, I have a big day coming up Arnold." he replied as his cabinmaster let him enter. He and his cabinmaster, Arnold, were good friends and didn't mind that Collin stayed up late usually. "Yes, you have quite a big day tomorrow indeed," said Arnold, as he moved back into his quarters. Collin moved to where is cabin mates were talking and chatted for a while. When the moon was at its highest point, they all went to bed. My first story, feel free to leave feedback. If you want me to continue you can also post that
I like it so far. Interested to see where you're going with it. What is "horsetraining school"? is that like the Cavalry or are they actually training horses? This sentence was a little confusing at first. It sounded like the whole cabin had to decide together where to apprentice. a couple sentences later I realized that's not what you meant so it's not that big of a deal.
Ranger's Apprentice is my favorite series to read and this parallels a lot with Ranger's Apprentice. The story was good but would have loved it a lot more if completely original.
