Tension in NYC

  1. As many people know I am from NYC and as of lately there has been a lot of tension which is not mentioned in the news, I now wonder what will happen. Just last week I was stuck in traffic for an hour because the police locked down multiple streets and blocks because of men running around armed screaming "**** the police".

I see a lot of people celebrating that two cops were executed yet those are the same people uploading videos about how they want justice and of protests. Furthermore here is an article and I would like to hear what people think should happen and what might happen, with all of this going on.

"Two New York police officers were ambushed and fatally shot while sitting in their patrol car in Brooklyn's Bedford-Stuyvesant neighborhood Saturday. The suspected gunman has died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

In a press conference, New York City Police Commissioner William Bratton said the officers, Wenjian Liu and Rafael Ramos, were killed with "no warning, no provocation." They were shot in the head by a gunman standing by the passenger window, the commissioner said; the shooter, identified as Ismaaiyl Brinsley, then entered a nearby subway station and killed himself.

The gunman shot a woman in Baltimore on Saturday morning before traveling to New York City, Bratton said. Baltimore police sent a "warning flier" to the NYPD, but the police commissioner said the warning fax arrived at approximately the same time the shooting occurred.

Bratton said the shooting didn't appear to be an act of terrorism. The police say they are investigating the gunman's motives, and as part of their investigation they will look into anti-police Instagram posts which have been attributed to the suspect.

Both Bratton and Mayor Bill de Blasio emphasized that anyone who sees or hears threats against police, in person or over social media, should report the threat to the authorities.

Attorney General Eric Holder called the killings "an unspeakable act of barbarism." The Rev. Al Sharpton announced a Sunday press conference with the widow and mother of Eric Garner "denouncing the killing of the two NYPD officers" and offering prayers for the families of the victims." - NPR.org

  2. We need a nelson mandela for america.

  3. These are the types of idiots that start riots and cause trouble for everyone. This stuff bothers me, because the police are sworn to uphold the law, I know there are some that don't but you can't judge an entire group of people because a few decide to do dumb stuff. What some people don't realize is that without the police the entirety of the USA would be in disarray and there would be much more hate crimes and things that people blame the police for not stopping

  4. There was some march with over 1mil people too, if that's what you're talking about. They were protesting the multiple "unprovoked" shootings of black teens/young adults by the nypd. I use quotes because few witnesses are very trustworthy in these situations.

  5. Honestly this is the worst thing that could've happened IMO and I don't think it'll be the only incident.

I do think the Eric Garner case was messed up. That should've gone to trial. That being said the outright murder of officers is wrong and not the way things need to change. This shooter was obviously wrong in the head though (don't forget he killed his GF in Baltimore BEFORE killing these officers in NYC).

This is going to put officers in even a more aggressive position though. This is Exactly what needs to not happen for proper change to happen.

  6. I watched something about the trustworthiness of witnesses, since every person believes they saw what they saw, everyone sees something different and it makes for very unreliable witness accounts of major crimes. Plus nobody thinks about something exactly the same, something one person thinks is ok another may think is extremely insulting or racist

  7. In most of the cases though, it still seemed NYPD officers were too hasty with their choices, despite what training they have had. And @Real, I agree. Anything like that should call for at least a trial. Even though I'm sure they'd still find themselves proven innocent.

  8. Shooting someone is supposed to be considered a last resort, after the person has displayed intent on harming someone or the police officer and nothing else they can do will stop that person, so most police shootings would be too hasty in my opinion

  9. I'm so pissed off right now. What is wrong with this world?

  10. You people wonder why police are always so "mean"? This is the exact reason

  11. Using "you people" to give yourself a feeling of hierarchy.
    On a 9 mobile game 

  12. Yes as in the idiots who think ALL cops are bad

  13. "You people" was directed towards cop haters

  14. But you can't assume all police shootings are unjustified. Sometimes dangerous people do dangerous things, and it's their job to stop them.

  15. If you are referring to people questioning their judgment and calling them all corrupt, the. I agree. I have no problem with the decisions people make when they are put into those kinds of situations unless it is completely avoidable. My uncle explained all of this to me because at one time he was a police officer

  16. String em up. Public hanging. Thats what these protesters want, to see someone be charged and executed for a crime. Let them know that if they shoot police officers, they will hang at noon.

    Bring in the gallows!

  17. I don't think anyone on this thread was hating on all cops. We were discussing the recent-ish shootings.

  18. Did not say they were hating on them. Was throwing it out there to the ones who do
