Chapter One My cell rang while I was putting my backpack under my seat. Plopping down on my seat, I check my phone. Steph. I smiled and answered. "Shane, how are ya?!" Stephanie boomed. "Steph, I'm terrible! You're leaving me alone with my stupid dad for 3 months! How could you?" I ranted sarcastically. "Hey, you're not the ideal bff either, you're leaving me to my grandma." She laughed. "In Florida!" "Yeah, I know. My grandma rules." "LOL." I sighed. "I'm gonna miss ya Stephanie." I said sadly. "I'm gonna miss you too Shane." "I'll call ya when I land in PR." And with that, I hung up and tried to sleep for a while. ****************************************************************** I woke up to my phone ringing again. I thought it was Steph again but when I answered, it was Logan. "Hey, babe." He said "Hey, Logan." I said sleepily "Oh sorry. I woke you up, didn't I?" "Yeah but it's no biggie, I wanted to see the view. We're close to the Amazon Rainforest." "Okay, sorry again." "It's okay. So what's up?" "I wanted to talk about us." He said nonchalantly. "What? Are you breaking up with me or something?" I said jokingly "Wha- Heck no! How could you even think that?" I laughed, "Dude, I'm just kidding" "Oh, thank God." He sighed. "So what's up?" "Well, I just called to tell you to remember you have a boyfriend back home. And that you won't hook up with some Spanish guy." "I won't. Call ya when I land. Bye." I rested my head on the window and went to sleep again. And I almost didn't wake up. ****************************************************************** I felt my head tilted, my nose pinched and something hot against my lips. Then hot air went into my lungs. I jerked my head sideways and gasped the cold air multiple times. "Are you alright." Said a handsome voice. I straightened up, coughing. A boy was above me. He had curly brown hair, brown eyes and very pink lips. He was cute but there was ash and dirt all over his face and body and there even some skin that was burnt off, he had several wounds and red cheeks from crying and I could see his arm was bleeding horribly. "I'm alright," I coughed, "What happened?" "The plane crashed, we're the only ones who made it out." "How?" He shrugged then sighed. "My entire family was on that plane." He said, a tear falling down his cheek. I looked down, "Sorry." Out of nowhere, the thought of him saving me came. "How did you save me?" "Mouth to mouth." "No, I mean, how did you know I was still alive?" "I was siting in front of you, I saw your chest move up and down" "Thank you." I said, standing up. "Where are you going?" "To find a first aid kit." I started walking to the nose of the plane. "I'm Cruz by the way." "Shane." "That's a boy's name." "It's short for Shaneel. I'm not going by that name." I heard him laugh. I walked for what was maybe 15 minutes and I was already regretting it, there were dead bodies, plane parts and luggage, food, trays and a million other stuff just lying there in the middle of- Wait. Where the heck am I. I looked around, there were large bulky trees everywhere, large plants, little shrubs, and I could hear the sound of water rushing. I still had no idea where I was though. A butterfly with clear wing flew above me. I found the first aid kit after another 15 minutes of walking. It was burned so badly, I almost hadn't noticed if it wasn't for the red rainforest crab that was moved when I got near it. It was very large and very full, it had about a hundred things that would take me and hour to name, but it had what I needed, a few gauze pads, disinfectant wipes, a roll of gauze, and few strong sticks. It also had a mirror and some phone that only calls 911. I ran back to Cruz only to find him playing with a little girl's hair. "My little sister." He said gravely. I sat down next to him. His sister looked so innocent. Her green eyes were still open in fright. I reached over and closed them. Cruz smiled at me sadly. "Can I see your arm." He extended his left arm and winced in pain. The bleeding hadn't stopped, if anything, it had gotten worse. "These need stitches, but I'm not that well-trained, the best I can give is a tourniquet." "Okay, just be gentle." I placed the gauze paddings a couple of inches from his wound and wrapped the cloth around it, I tied in a half knot, put a stick on it and tied a full knot over the stick. "Well, I must be lucky. Where did you learn this?" He asked. "My mom was a doctor, and I learned a few tricks. Now, this might hurt." I started twisting the stick until the bleeding finally stopped, while Cruz slammed the ground with his other hand. I tied the loose ends of the tourniquet over the stick. "Done." I announced. "Hey, that wasn't so bad. Thanks." "Hakuna Matata, and I'm not finished yet, that was just the hard part, I still have to clean the wound." I brought out the wipes and cleaned all the blood until it was just a red scar. "Okay, now I'm done." I said. "Good, now where are we?" Just then, a scarlet macaw landed right next to us, it pecked at my hand and pointed at Cruz's hand. "What the heck!" I blurted. The bird squawked, but it didn't come out like a real bird, it sounded like those parents you see in movies that can talk, it said one word. Follow. "This is crazy." Cruz said. "Yeah, it is. Come on." I stood and he grabbed my arm. "Where are you going, you're not gonna listen to a bird are you?" "Why not. It's better that staying here." "But we don't even know where we are." "Actually, I do." "Then, where are we?" He stood. "We're in the Amazon Rainforest." The bird flew into the thick of trees and plants. I fastened the first aid kit to my belt and ran after it. After a moment's hesitation, Cruz followed My cell rang while I was putting my backpack under my seat. Plopping down on my seat, I check my phone. Steph. I smiled and answered. "Shane, how are ya?!"
