One thing I never could understand about KaW was the leader board system. When my account Os-hiromi became HLBC yet was still only ranked 6500, I remember thinking “Wow! There are 6500 other people who are HLBC in KaW.” Then the All-Star Wars came out with their 5000 ranking cut off. I was shocked at seeing lots of other players who were nowhere near HLBC yet able to join the war. How is this possible? I became even more upset when I learned of clanmates who were 40 ranks below me in clan and yet higher than me on the LB. That can’t be right! I emailed ATA giving them the following information: Stats(Feb 10, 2012) Me Clanmate 1 Clanmate2 Build and Land HLBC HLBC 45 Lands only Overall 4574 2132 4469 Battle 3573 4939 7226 Allies 1752 6869 9932 Value 978 5426 7445 Resets 4 0 0 As you can see even though I am ahead by a great margin in both allies and battles, clanmate one’s leader board ranking is twice as high as mine. Clanmate two is barely in the top 10,000 in allies and is not even HLBC yet but is still 105 ranks higher than me. Convinced there was a mistake I emailed ATA, and got this response: So I did. I checked out everything I could think of. Here is it. After all, that is what the overall ranking is supposed to show, “the most powerful kingdoms in the land”. This revelation leads to some conclusions and questions: 1. Your build and allies have very little to do with your leader board rank. As you can see from my comparative gold value stat, my account is about 2.8 trillion more valuable than clanmate two. This is taking account that he still has to buy and build on 5 more lands and that his ally total only reaches about 300 Bil while mine is 1.8 trillion (hence my high ally ranking). Nevertheless in ATA’s eyes his high spy action numbers make him more powerful than me. 2. If spy actions are so important, why do they not have their own leader board? The present leader board gives no indication that one can get so powerful by scouting inactives all day long. Where is the scout LB, the assassin LB? This is important information that affects my rank. List it please. 3. Why not make clan rankings match overall rankings? My clan ranks me 40 places higher than clanmate 2 and 10 higher than clanmate 1. However since ATA thinks they are so powerful because of their spy actions, they should be ranked higher than me. Be consistent ATA. Don’t say on one lb I’m weaker but on another I’m stronger. 4. A newer player has little or no chance of climbing high on the LB. One reason my spy stats are so low is that this is a reset account designed to take the place of my old main, os-kimonogirlhiro. I was ranked 328 when I decided to make a reset count my main and convert my old main into a spy. I thought if concentrated my gold into the new account I could one day climb back up. I was wrong. ATA’s system awards veterans and punishes newer accounts. 5. Red Star must have an incredible amount of allies. He got the top rank with only having a small amount of scouts and less than 900 defenses. It is incredible that he could be ranked higher than an inactive scouting powerhouse like clanmate 2. Bomanator is another one. I remember him being ranked top 5 overall with only 10,000 battle wins and he still has less than 5000 scouts. They are my heros. 6. The ally lb is the true ranking of the strongest kingdoms I know I was being sarcastic above. There is no way a spy action can make you stronger. Actions are in the past. True strength in the present is only shown on the ally lb. If you want to know if someone is stronger than you, ask for their ally lb ranking. Sorry if I sound bitter, but it is very discouraging to have worked so hard and not make progress because ATA has a love affair with spy actions. Makes me feel like quitting. No by clears I am trying to compare hits, steals, scouts and assassins. It is not exact, but if you clear troops in hits you get 26 actioms if you have a coe. With a assasin it is 36, a spy 18, and a scout is 77. Therefore to make the actioms equal, all hit actioms should be devide by 26, assassin by 36 etc. This is a way to compare different types of actioms.
Here is something I can't understand. The devs were pushing us so much to reset, but them punish us for doing it. Why are reset bonuses not included in our lb rank? Did we not work for them? Resets also should not erase battle stats, only gold and build. Including wins before reset would give a more accurate account of what we did in the game.
I wondered about this a while ago too because GORAK was 1st in clan but behind King in overall lb. G told me clan ranking is done by ally strength, that's why he's first. But if Spy actions count so much as you say, how on earth did Red get his reset alt to number 1 so quick?? I thought overall lb was ally strength added to own strength plus battle wins. Seems a bit pointless really, your right when you say true kingdom strength is ally lb
Ally lb has been the only true measure of kingdom strength for a while now. There is way to many variables in overall for it to be an accurate rating of strength.
@ Blair. I thought the same as you, but it's not. If it was ally wins build, how can a small hansel with almost no allies get ranked 105 spots higher than me? The devs are in love with actions, and some of the most important actions ( spy actions) are not shown on any lb, but count in overall.
@A1. Then let's get rid of the overall. What purpose does it serve if it does not show strength. I disagree that there are too many variables. It looks like this chick has checked all the variables. The devs have a system; they just need to get off their butts and change it.

This is a very interesting thread op. Ty for sharing your position re: the LB. I've had my own back and forth emails with ATA about LB calculations as well. It is frustrating to say the least. When I think of a game LB, I expect to be able to compare myself to players that are stronger than me, not to players that have spammed the repeat button for EB spy actions. A joke of a LB really. Also, it is interesting to note that these kingdoms that have more successful actions may be closer to earning a LB achievement even if their strength from build and allies is lacking. An attack build attacks, and thus earns gold for allies through those actions, but even if they make top 100 for ally strength, that is not enough to be recognized for it if they haven't accumulated significant spy actions. Also interesting that some players(i.e. Your examples above) have made the overall LB without the spy actions. The current calculations are not a good way to reflect what I consider to be a leader board. But hey, not my game. Not my call to make. I gave up my quest to rise in rank awhile back, but seeing this thread, I had to comment. Brought the frustration right back.. And absolutely right about newer players to the game not having a prayer. Not unless they want to spend big money on a free online game anyway. Thanks for your thoughts OP
