So I Did a Bunch of Math

Discussion in 'Other KaW Discussion' started by greatkingfrank, Jan 20, 2015.

  1. Alright, so a question popped into my head today, so I did the math to answer it.

    Here's the question:
How much is the money in KaW worth in real life?

Why it's kind of hard to figure out:
First off, there's no obvious way to figure it out. Namely, we only have one currency that is used to buy things. (Therefore excluding Bronze Bars, Nobs, Xstals, Mithril, Pots, Aqua, Inferno, Wisps, etc.) So we don't have anything to compare to. Now, we could use the bars to calculate it, but the game never made it clear how much they weighed, and metals pieces of metals are priced by weight. Also, it's not real. We know the pound is worth more than the dollar because we can compare their buying power against each other. Same with all real currency. So how did I figure it out? I'll show you.

    Attempt 1 (Failure)

First, I would use the lands to calculate the value. First, I had to find the price of land at that size. (I assumed that each land was 1 acre in size.) Next, we'll have to figure out where the land is. Why? Because land in Russia is priced differently than land in Japan, because the currencies they use are worth different amounts. So what country is KaW based in? Well, it's probably in Europe, because the early buildings are made in a European medieval style of architecture. But which part of Europe? What part of Europe has highlands? Scotland. Another reason for Scotland: The highlands lead to Hoarfrost, which are very cold, at least from what I've seen. Scotland was the main place for the Vikings to land on, and also for people sailing to Nordic countries (Iceland, Sweden, Norway, Finland, etc.) from the British Isles would probably go north from Scotland. So we could just use the value of one Highlands (one acre of Scottish land) and divide it by pounds, dollars, etc. So why did it fail? Because the price of the acres went up as we got more, so every land would change the value, and that wouldn't work for a mathematical formula without an equation, and figuring money in this form does not involve equations.

    Attempt 2 (Also Failure)

So then I tried to use pots to figure it out. Unfortunately, I very well can't go to Walmart and pick up an Elixir of Rage (though Red Bull makes my brothers kind of jumpy...). But what about the mystical sword? I could find the average price of a medieval sword, divide by 250,000 and have an answer. But there's another issue. What kind of sword? The Mongols used the Turko Mongol Saber, the Arabs used the Scimitar, the French often used the bastard sword, the English the long sword, and different countries used different swords, so it all depended. No pots to help.

Attempt 3 (3's not the charm this time)

What about buildings? Well, there are a few holes that pop out to me, mainly that there aren't Cursed Foundries up the road a little bit. (Although there are a few unpleasant factories in Thailand.). But here's what we could try: How much does a stable cost? A Barracks? Well, it depends on the stable. Why? Because, if a stable is really fancy and full of Clydesdales, then it could be really, really expensive. But if it was full of other horses (like the Norwegian Fjord), then it would be a different price. And the game never clarifies the breed of horse. (Hint hint, KaW_admin), so it's impossible to determine. It's the same with the other buildings. You're not sure about the things it took to make it. (Aside from 25,000 gold or so)

Attempt 4 (This times the charm)

So then it hit me. I took a survey (I'll put the names of the takers below) on the average amount of gold a player has, found the average, and divided by the income of a person who uses a certain currency. The average was 383,400,000,000 gold. The average income of some one in America (US Dollars, duh) is $60,528. I did this:

    60,528/383,400,000,000.

And what does that equal? 17 quadrillionths of a cent. I did the same with the pound:

    26,500/383,400,000,000

Which equals: 7 centilionths of a pence. (I think I spelled the number wrong)

And you can use this with any currency (however, I only did it with the US dollar and the pound.)

I have a list of people who helped with the survey, and here they are:

  2. I wanna take a poll for whoever read the title as "So I Did a Bunch of Meth".

  3. +1

  4. What did I mess up?

  5. Nothing. He just likes to post that gif.

  6. Yup

  7. +3

  8. Alcyone no in this case he did something incredibly stupid in a smart way that was nevertheless stupid. This gif finally applies. Yay

  9. Did anyone read the post? Anyone at all?

  10. Yes I read the post

  11. I read it. It's pretty neat to see that all this gold is practically useless

  12. If you think about it, it's actually something brilliant. Or if, you know, read it.

  13. I'm not sure why I waste time on this. I just wanted to figure this out.

Who knew math could be used for something?

  14. So you compared the average earning of a year's worth of work in the U.S. to the average amount of gold two players happened to have out at the moment?

*It probably would've worked better if you compared the yearly income to a player's yearly gold income.

  15. You might as well have just done a bunch of meth.

  16. Three. I didn't get much data.

  17. I would do that, but no one could keep track unless I started an alt and bought nothing, never got hit, nothing that would lose money, and only hit ebs. It's just impossible.
