Prologue "Mother! Look! Look over there!", cried Benjamin. The little boy pointed with his grubby hands towards a large star on the horizon. It was chilly tonight. The winds were calm and the waves caressed the shores. But something else was emerging. Benjamin's mother glanced toward the bright light and froze in fear. "RUN BENJAMIN!", screamed his mother. He quickly looked towards his mother and saw the look of surprise and fear. Confused he grabbed her hand and pulled her towards the house. His mother scooped him into her arms and ran as fast as she could. Benjamin looked over his mother's left shoulder and stared at the star. Something about it was odd..it was getting bigger! As his mother continued to run they began to hear screams in the village. Bright flashes of light split between the alleys and the sound of chaos arose. Benjamin looked around franticly trying to find ehat caused the sudden flashed of light. He looked up and was stunned to see the star had moved above the city! "Mother! The star is floating!", he whispered. Benjamin's mother ignored him and tripped over a soldiers sword. Benjamin flee from her arms onto the cobblestone path where he landed softly. His mother gathered herself and gazed upwards towards him. Her eyes widened with fear and she screamed. Benjamin, confused looked behind him and saw a bloodied face staring back. He looked down and realized he had landed on a dead soldier. Scrambling to his feet crying with fear, he ran towards his mother who was now standing and looking everywhere for a safe haven. Benjamin was suddenly thrown backwards and a blistering heat knocked him onto his back. His head snapped backwards and hit the cobblestone hard. A loud crack echoed through his head and the last thing Benjamin saw was the star gazing down upon him... ••• Something was burning...he could hear the crackling of a fire. The heat flowed over his body. He slowly opened his eyes and saw funnels of smoke and ember raising into the air. 'What is that stench?', he wondered. It smelled like burned meat when his mother forgot about dinner over the fire. He slowly rose up to his feet and dusted himself off. He had cuts all over his body and his clothes were singed and burned. Red blisters spotted his chest and legs, some oozing with dried blood. He looked up and gazed around, taking in his surroundings. The buildings were destroyed and rubble was everywhere. He could see bodies of soldiers and the townsfolk littering the streets. Then he spotted a woman lying on the floor. He slowly walked towards her, noticing thr body was black and smoldered. He crouched beside the body and covered his nose. The clothing looked familiar...his mother had the same sweater. Then he noticed something shiny on the bodies left hand, a small golden ring on the middle finger. He leaned cautiously over the body to inspect it. The ring, he recognized it! It was his mother's! Suddenly he was hit with the realization that the burnt body on the floor eas his mother. Tears welling in his eyes he scrambled backwards and fell onto his behind. He continued going bavkwards until he hit something that prodded his back. He turned to glance behind him and realized they were obisidian shin guards. Looking up he saw the red eyes of a ghoul who reached out with it's metalic hands and grabbed him by the front of his shirt. The ghoul lifted him high off of his feet and held him at eye level. Trembling eith fear Benjamin stared back into the creatures foggy red eyes. Streams of red smoke ventured out from the slits in the black hole under the hood. Benjamin felt a wave of nausea and his eyes began to slowly close. The ghoul continued to stare, it's eyes getting redder and brighter eith each second. Then blackness consumed him and Benjamin fell into an endless sleep not knowing if he would ever wake to see life again. --------------------------------------------------------------- Thanks for reading!
